[2017] CS Autumn Classic Int - Men's Free Skating

I think the initial meltdown here seemed worse than his on ice, but seems we picked up just like him :)

I actually expected this for another reason... everyone was so calm after yesterday and the practice, I was pretty sure he'd bomb and cause another :003:

Personally, I think it was the lutz and the altered layout, combined with yesterday. After the SP WR, he knew he can break his records even with the simplified version and really wanted it. But the lutz was iffy, he popped it in practice and in warmup and as he went into it, you could see him thinking about it. So, pop. The loop was fine, unless my memory is wrong. And also, unless my stream was weird, he was behind the music a bit. And although he got back into it by the second half, he was off it again, probably because of the fall and pops. The final part, he was hesitant again, I think because he'd lost touch with the music and it was over. Someone said LGC was unforgiving because of the music and rhythm. I think Seimei is, too, especially because he knows it so well, it's glaringly obvious to him when he's off. I also think, there is a change in timing and rhythm by doing triples instead of quads. And I'm not sure he ever got to do a full runthrough of this layout. Also, I can't help wondering if the delay in the music start on the first day practice also messed his rhythm up a bit. As in, he couldn't be sure when it'd start anymore. And although his breathing time there, it's short and can catch him off guard. All in all, bad combination of things.

That said, I'm HAPPY he doesn't seem that bothered. This is the kind of relapse - into overthinking and wanting to prove himself - that I mentioned before. It happened and he recognizes it for what it is. I almost expect he went to Brian and said "You told me so". Of course he's kuyashii because he's Yuzu and he hates losing, but Brian bringing both him and Javi here was genius for both of them, IMO. Yuzu would probably rather lose to Javi than anyone else, but it will also fire him up AND keep him fired up because they train together every day. And Javi needed this win, but he'll be bitter because he won with a not great skate over a really poor Yuzu and that's not the kind of win he wants. They'll be pushing each other again like I don't think they did last year.

And 17 posts since I started typing this... lol

I don’t understand. I feel bad when anyone bombs, even if I’m not a fan. I don’t hate any skaters enough or at all to laugh at their misfortune.

Yes, we only laugh at their costumes. When they pop or fall, we go ouch. :/ I think they don't like having a figure skater that people who don't know figure skating so well fall in love with so easily. You know - their ball, they wanna take it and go home.

So I wake up to Yuzu bombing in good fashion. Nice start to the season! :13877886:

seems like he  had the gloves but choose not to wear it?

You weren't around for Boston, I suppose. That's where it was heart-breaking...

No, this was my first live competition. I went back and watched just about everything I could find, but knowing what's going to happen and what was going on prepares you for both the good times and bad. Still, I know this isn't heart-breaking or anything. Just nervy and a little disappointing.

This one was disappointing, but later it can be uplifting - that's the beauty of it, you never know!
