2018 Worlds - Milano (Tickets)

Featured Replies

AirBnBs in the area seem affordable, I just booked one :) it fits three people and was $36 a night. I guess I'm just in the mood to book all of my accommodations now haha. But the weekend before the competition, I will probably go somewhere else, not sure where yet..:tumblr_inline_mfy92c3yyk1qid2nw:

I feel too old for hostels and too paranoid for AirBnB ^^; So I'll stick to hotels... I tentatively booked a room at one hotel and an apartment for two, the "can cancel for free until..." type (I do that a lot :P Book multiple options, especially when they say "Only 1 room left!" or so ^_^; ) I definitely need to keep searching, though. It's hard to find something for the whole period... so I might switch hotels in the middle of the trip for a cheaper option... Oh and a question: is public transportation - including tickets etc. - the same as in Rome? Haven't taken the time to properly research yet ^_^;

I'm waiting for single tickets too! I'm going to book a hostel too, but I'll wait till I have tickets to do so.

I(guess which...argh if Yuzu doesn't go someone will hear me scream reaaally loud :tantrum:)

I'll scream with you too! But I guess I'll take the chance since it's probably my only chance to watch Chopin 3.0 and Seimei 2.0 live. And I don't want the decent seats to be gone.

Even as I'm typing this, I'm still in disbelief...I've never flew to a different country with the main goal of watching a competition...Wish us all luck with the ticket sales!

I haven't been in Rome for a while, but Milan has (among other things, duh) a metro system. The M2 takes you directly from the Mediolanum forum to the city center area. :-)

There are numerous tickets available, possibly one of the best options seems to be 2 x 6 tickets:

https://www.atm.it/en/ViaggiaConNoi/Biglietti/Pages/Biglietticumulativi.aspx

Weekly 2x6 Cumulative Pass

For daily journeys between a town in the greater Milan area and Milan city network.

It allows two journeys per day and assumes you are staying in the urban area and go oitside the urban area (i.e. The forum).

Thank you very much for the information! I was in Rome four years ago, so things might have changed there, too lol. I just found that pretty easy in Rome, though admittedly, I went for the simplest single trip journey tickets then. lol It's good to have more practical options!

Single journey fare 1,50 is not enough in Milan (unless you are staying near the forum) because the forum is not in the urban zone. Definitely something to keep in mind there. ;-)

you would need a "cumulative U + 1 zone" ticket

God, I hope not. :laughing:

I guess, for tourists Rome might be okay but living here is a nightmare. On 5 buses I use, 4 are broken and 1 is overcrowded, transforming the people inside in sardines or Kimchi or whatever is tight together in a glass bottle. I bet Milan is a lot better.

Ah, thank you for that information! I always get confused with these areas in Western Europe ^_^;

lol it was easy to navigate, but not the most comfortable...  My conclusion of Rome, that I share with anyone venturing there, is that being on the streets of Rome - whether as a pedestrian, driver or rider - is an extreme sport. And the buses are quite an adventure, too, because I think you can feel even the slightest hole in the pavement. But it is a beautiful city, so it's kind of worth it. As a tourist at least lol

The last time I was in Rome, traveling in the metro system was dangerous for everything on your person: it was populated by thieving gypsies. Sad to say but true. Not sure how bad it is now, though, but I have become very weary of traveling in crowded areas since then!

I admit I didn't notice anything like that, but then again, I grew up in a bad neighborhood, so I'm used to being careful with belongings. It's kind of like second nature by now ^_^; (And yet the only time I almost got mugged was when I was a tourist in Barcelona >_<). I've become a bit paranoid since then, but less of crowded places and more of people-less places. I admit I'm a bit relieved the men's events at Milano all seem like they'll end early-ish, possibly even in daylight (except for the Gala, I guess).

Rome is, among the top tourists cities in the world, the one who gets the worst treatment from its own citizens and mayors. Everybody eats tax money behind our backs, and all the money goes in the mob's pockets. Sad but true. It's gonna be hard to change it in a hundred years.

I wouldn't say dangerous since I've been taking metro every day in my life here and I've never been stolen anything. You just gotta be careful. I always hold my purse with both my hands and almost never wear my cellphone in my pocket. I'd have to write a long paragraph about gypsies (Roma, or Rom, is the more correct term, actually) and their terrible conditions in Rome, the xenophobia they are put through that doesn't allow any integration at all, but this is not the thread nor the site for it actually :laughing:

Anyways, THIS is why we'll never host any Olympics nor anything in Rome ever! :rofl:

Quick question for buying tickets online for this...will an international credit card work? There shouldn't be any complicated local processes right? I think I'm just going to try really hard to buy a decent seat for one event (Mens Free, most likely) and then hope and pray Yuzu's gonna go T__T

It's a World Championship, so I'm sure international credit card should be fine (though they might limit to Visa, Mastercard etc. usual ones. No idea if there are local types of credit cards anywhere.) I think Yuzu will probably go, given that there's always the issue of spots for Japan next year (even if Shoma is reliable, too). Plus his own pride >.> So baring injury or health issues, I'm pretty sure he'll go. (Personally, I also want to see Javi, especially as it might be his last competition... I think he's very likely to go, too, since it's Europe and somewhat close to Spain, so a good place for a last competition - though I still hope he won't retire just yet...)

I guess the only thing I'm worried about is if they ask for a local address or phone when booking (that might...just be a Japan thing though) : / Hopefully not! I'm taking a huge risk given my exchange hasn't been confirmed yet but gonna try to go to Worlds 2018 no matter what :laughing:

I paid by visa credit card, no problem whatsoever. (They luv taking your money!) ;-)

The only issue I ran across is that the payment process suggested you could choose e-tickets (print at home), but it doesn't. You will need to pick up your tickets at the forum.
