I was thinking the same thing. Why the heck is ballet always the standard?

short rant: it’s the same reason why fs in general isn’t more popular

It’s not innovative at times

swan lake at every Olympics… they definitely have to be more and better music choices

if not then fs will always be seen as a boring sport by the general public

Yeah, but S/H going clean in the free is a thing that happens. T/M... not so much.

But that shouldn’t matter - still,   skating while Russian I suppose.  It’s always impressive the way he makes her fly but they are nowhere near as expressive as S/H

uh so P/J got underscored for that performance and B/K held up to finish 4th.

judges decided that they threw the host nation enough of a bone by putting S/H first by 0.16 pts, so went back to their usual program of overscoring Russians

Ok, pretty good results, although some doubst as always can be raised. I guess, another nervous day comes tomorrow, everything is open. Pity about Riku's mistake, but still they have a good score and great position to move even higher, although 8 place is also great. But they can fight for top six, they have all the tricks and skills.

Right. But for the final standings, I'm not too worried about how close T/M are to S/H. (M/G worry me a lot more right now, tbh.) I totally agree that the gap in the short should have been larger based on how little connection they show on the ice.

It's just that, if you know both disciplines, then ballet as anything other than a dryland training routine to add polish to skater's lines, makes no sense. You're going from a medium that's all about step-step-stepping to one where glide is king. The movements often don't translate.

Figire skating is it's own medium. It's not 'ballet on ice' . :angry_party:
