He was never as clear about wanting to do it as Javi, for example. As far as I remember, at least. 7 minutes ago, Sombreuil said: I can't help wondering whether his professor and/or Brian Orser realise he's trying to apply his education as he's going along. The professor might need to be a bit thoughtful about what to put into that brain. His studies might also have an effect on that intensity that BO finds too much sometimes, either raising or lowering it, and knowing that it's possibly a factor might help the coaching team. And this is actually a good point. I sometimes did this, too... I'd find out something new, think it'd be interesting and try to apply it in my life. But some time later I'd find something completely different or in any case, conclude it wasn't really the best idea. So doing things on the go may not always be the best idea. I'd be curious to see what Brian thinks about these things, for sure. Because I'm still not sure they agree on the intensity thing. Even in Helsinki, when Brian was trying to point out that Yuzu being less intense probably contributed to the result, while to Yuzu it felt like he didn't have enough energy Link to comment

But at the same time we have Kenji and Mura talking about how Yuzu helped fixing their jumps - and I could bet Yuzu coached Nobu a bit too. And he's interested in education, now ? I really would looove to see Yuzu in a Stephane/Denis-like relationship with a promissing young skater <3 Link to comment

Sometimes as a teacher in higher education, trying to give a rounded education, you put several theories out there, to spark debate, to get people to think things through, sometimes as part of a larger picture that only emerges as the course comes to an end. Which is ok if it's purely academic and no one is in a position to go out and try it before they've seen where it fits in the general scheme of things. Link to comment

Surely Yuzu can be the most handsome coach out there and of course it would be cool if he can pass his great technique to the young generation. But well, who knows, I don't think right now Yuzu himself looks that far ahead Link to comment
Murieleirum
From the translated interview: Quote YH From the start, I’ve been interested in psychology, such as cognitive and clinical psychology, as well as the human nervous system and sensory system, I usually read a lot of books on these topics. Recently, I’ve also been reading up on the topic of “sleep” from books and on the internet, and checking out books on how to use the human body and on self care. I knew it. I knew he was a psychology guy. There were too many signs. Aaaah, now I have the perfect idea for a book to gift him... Link to comment
katonice
Another Yuzu-related program rebroadcast, though I'm not sure why there are links included in the post, and why parts 1 and 2 are shown separately. My Japanese skills right now don't allow me to understand that much lol. 2 minutes ago, katonice said: Shizuka Arakawa Friends on Ice 2011 CS 300 Sept 1 [Part 1] 1:00~2:00 http://bangumi.skyperfectv.co.jp/e2/?uid=i11936580 [Part 2] 2:00~3:30 http://bangumi.skyperfectv.co.jp/e2/?uid=i11936582 [Cast] Shizuka Arakawa, Yamato Tamura, Takeshi Honda, Daisuke Takahashi, Yuzuru Hanyu, etc. Link to comment
axelsandwich
I love reading instances that prove Yuzu is as book-smart as he is athletically talented and evidence he's an obsessive note-taker (have to admit, I laughed at how even Yuzu's other interests are all indirectly tied or related to his skating - boy has tunnel vision focus that's awe-inspiring but also hilariously single-minded). And it's very reassuring he seems attuned to his mental state and is taking active steps to practise self care - that's something I wondered about since there's still such a taboo on mental health in Asia. The only thing I wish for is that he can better communicate the complexity his thoughts and learning to Brian. The language barrier must be frustrating. Link to comment

The skaters with links to Sendai (Shizuka, Yuzu, Takeshi, Yamato) did a special number with some children skaters from Sendai. I'm re-watching it right now and I just realised Shae Lynn Bourne participated! Link to comment
liv
Yeah, you could tell psychology was something he would delve into... he may not even be looking into coaching himself, but understanding more Brian's perspective would certainly help him understand more where Brian is coming from sometimes. However, it would be great to see him as a coach too!! I never thought to see Brian as a coach and yet here we are... I am sure yuzu would be just as entertaining behind the boards as brian is, lol. Not very many successful skaters become great coaches and brian/tracy have done it. Link to comment
robin
Yuzu never seemed to be interested in coaching but he's mentioned alot of times that he wants to use his studies to help other athletes. So maybe what he was thinking of was sport psychology? Learning about education and coach-student relations would also fit into this frame. Someone let him talk about his insights for hours and record it and release an uncut DVD pls it would be an enrichment to himanity! my new life goal would be to learn Japanese amd understand everything he says eta: And part of the DVD could be dedicated to him reading excepts from his skating notes and commenting on them!!
