For the Japanese planets - is it common to have cats as housepets in Japan? Cats are very popular house pets in Japan. Link to comment

They did such a great job at shortening the program, taking out mostly small bits that are hard to catch while keeping the feel of the program intact. I'm sad the change of edge spread eagle at 3:21 was taken out and the really low extended leg sit spin portion of the last spin, but I understand why they were cut. I like the really quick pivot at 1:38! It didn't really seem to save any time, but it looks cool. Also, wow, it's amazing how little time he had to recover from the 3F. He landed, took a breath, and went straight into the spin. Awesome! The step sequence was like watching ice dance. His timing is so incredible. Link to comment

We know he likes cats and bees, what other creatures could be on his "okay to release information" list? (I hold out hope for 4CC next year, because if Yuzu comes to Australia not only will I do everything I can to get there, but someone will ensure he meets and cuddles koalas - it's pretty mandatory for visitors - and Yuzu+koala is adorability overload the world needs....) Wonder if there are other rinks in this wooden style. The rink at the Cricket Club is beautiful because it is unique. The reason for this is that it is a private club and the rink was specifically designed for training purposes and not for competitions or spectators. Two of the walls, which are adjoining, have mirrors. One side of the rink is open for the skaters and coaches. The fourth side of the rink consists of a series of large (almost floor-to-ceiling) plate glass windows which separate the rink from a lounge which is the only area provided for viewing the rink. Unlike other rinks where you are required to huddle wearing down-filled clothing when watching skaters, at the Cricket Club, you can watch in comfort, without a sweater or jacket, in a booth or at a table having lunch or a cup of tea. This lounge appears to be used primarily by the skaters themselves, people related to or associated with the skaters or club members as a place to have a meal and chat with one another, without a lot of interest in what’s going on in the rink. And I, frankly, can't think of a nicer place to have a cup of tea than that lounge, while watching practice. I can dream. And the fact that it's not cold is very unique... Link to comment

I bet he'd love to cuddle a koala - but I bet he wouldn't go see any. He goes almost nowhere, even in Toronto. He's never been to Niagara Falls. When he's in a foreign city for a competition, he does not go out to see the local famous spots. He practices and he stays in his hotel. I feel sorry for him that he can't really go anywhere with anything like the freedom any one else might feel. It's partly because he's focused on the competition, partly because he's swarmed in public. Link to comment

I think it’s partially his personality though, he seems to be the kind who prefers staying home, and he is very focused, doesn’t want to be distracted by anything Link to comment

I was second trumpet through senior year in high school (!) when I decided it wasn't cool to have to march in the band. And playing Christmas carols in the snow was no fun at all (kept my mouthpiece inside my coat until it had to come out.) All six siblings (born in less than ten years) played brass instruments and we could do Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass tunes. As an adult, I have to think it was a cacophonous nightmare in that house for my parents. As a kid, I didn't care, I guess. My parents drank a lot.... (and thank God the Japanese don't think of small domestic animals as food....) Link to comment
