I've been thinking quite a bit about next year in Beijing.  The first thing is that Yuzu's pursuit of a third consecutive gold medal will be THE big story of that Olympics, since the last time it happened was nearly a century ago.  Second, because of that Yuzu will be the sentimental favorite, meaning that there will be far more people HOPING he'll win than those hoping someone else will.  Assuming that most will see the competition as being between Nathan and Yuzu, except for the American media, the spin around most of the rest of the world will see Nathan as the evil usurper.  I hope that Nathan is ready to handle that sort of flak.  Even the American media will be somewhat restrained in their support of Nathan, however, because they won't want to be seen as on the side of evil and wanting to rain on Yuzu's parade.  Finally, the judges will be extra-extra-extra careful in their judging both skaters because they will be under a microscope and will not desire to be seen as possibly biasing the results because of inaccurate judging.  Finally, what will happen if Yuzu takes gold a third time.  At that point even the most anti-Yuzu fans will have to accept the fact that that third gold makes Yuzu without a doubt the Greatest of All Time.

 

And then he retires.

Well, about Yuzu, he has made it clear that he just wants the 4A at this point. Whether or not he attends the Olys is not as important, and even less important is his pursuit of a third gold. But boy, isn't it great if he can get it. 

 

About the media, surely, if Yuzu decides to partake in the Olys, the attention will go there, since they will need something to push their narrative. And I don't think they will restraint with their support for Nathan. If anything, it will get way worse than it is now.

 

About Nathan, I don't think the judges will be extra careful with their scoring. If anything, they will blow up his scores even more.

The 4 A is definitely his motivation now. He also said that he tried jumping the 4A about a 1000 times, if I heard correctly. And most of his 2 h training time is devoted to the 4A, but has not landed it yet (?).  Hus interview was in frontbof a gray wall while Shuzo was innfront of a white brick wall

I take the whole thing relatively chilled. After all, there is a certain curse on defending three-time World champions at the Olympics...

 

And yes, I agree with @micaelis that - no matter how hard they try to push a certain skater - an Olympic three-peat plus Quaxel definitely is the most spectacular story of that whole circus.

Yeah, me too  Yuzu wants the 4A so I want that for him too. And yes, what a spectacular story it would be if Yuzu can get the 4A AND third Olys gold as the bonus (Not the other way around, GOAT-like behavior LOL)

 

I'm just saying, I don't think the media will go any easier, nor will the judges. I've blocked most of them out already, but well, based on what I've seen...
