  1. What a genius! The first time I heard the music, I found it wonderful except that the part between the step sequence and the first combo was "not enough for such a skating", then @CiONTUw4A sent another recording (thank you!) where this part was OK but the traditional instruments a bit blurred... After all, his CD went through JSF/Nagano rink music centre, then reverberation by the ice and less absorption by attendance than usual (as there was "only" half attendance, in theory it can be modelled but practically it needs adjustments), then by the sound recording by TV channels and others (I tend to suppose that afterwards, sound treatment was good and faithful), depending on where were the microphones... I should so much like to watch his program directly with the sound he produced, without all those intermediate changes! Still with the sound of his skates, if it can be. I know I'm asking too much. I am sure that Yuzuru Hanyu will not only help figure skating to get fairer scores in the future; he will also help provide skaters a good sound, however contradictory of an ice rink environment it can seem at first sight. And if he builds his own rink like Evgueny Plushenko, it will be with the best possible sound, with special ceiling and all.
  2. Do you know if this bird (the left one), probably the Abyssinian roller, will be nicknamed Heaven and Earth? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abyssinian_roller
  3. I wish a very happy New Year to all satellites and to your families! And of course, to "our" so dear Yuzuru Hanyu, to his family and to all those who support him. We didn't eat soba but we had natto for the first time. I expected something very strange, I rather found "it tasted what it looked like" (when eaten alone), beans and nice bacteriae/mold, not bad, and indeed the soy sauce and mustard made it fine (the real surprising taste in fact was the mustard sauce, quite different from Dijon mustard I am used to, and very good). (A precision : I like strong cheeses and I didn't find it to taste alike except maybe, a bit, the green of blue cheeses, and I hate Marmite and I didn't find it to taste alike either.)
  4. I don't know if this is the right thread, but I like this one of hers too :
  5. "A robot can be speechless." "God bless Yuzuru Hanyu!" Oh yes!
  6. What a piece of fun! But what does he have against the landings? I find them beautiful! And is there a sort of Zayak-rule for commenters, preventing them from repeating too many times "f..k" and "f..king"?
  7. She was the referee at NHK Trophy, I am even more happy that Yuzuru Hanyu didn't put a blade there! And in her professional life, from Linkedin, she's a HR manager... http://www.isuresults.com/results/season2021/gpjpn2020/data0230.htm Ladies - Short Program Panel of Officials Function Name Nation Referee Ms. Mami MAEDA JPN Judge No.1 Ms. Yoko KUNO JPN Judge No.2 Ms. Ayako SHIMODE JPN Judge No.3 Mr. Sho KAGAYAMA JPN Judge No.4 Ms. Masako KUBOTA JPN Judge No.5 Ms. Tomie FUKUDOME JPN Judge No.6 Mr. Tetsuo ABE JPN Judge No.7 Ms. Akiko KOBAYASHI JPN Technical Controller Ms. Yukiko OKABE JPN Technical Specialist Mr. Makoto OKAZAKI JPN Assistant Technical Specialist Ms. Masako KAWAI JPN Data Operator Ms. Emiko KITAJI JPN Replay Operator Ms. Ranko HIRAI JPN Back to Result Page Back Back to ISU Home Page Last Update: 28 Nov 2020 17:22 (UTC+09:00) created by comnet
  8. First, a little bit on the translation of the lyrics : "querer" means "to love" as well as "to want"; the usual way of telling "I love you" is "te quiero" for instance; and "para poder luchar" means "to be able to fight". I'm sure he would be superb in a tango. Maybe not yet if he is to be really, seriously sensual? And I have seen him (very) manly or rather gender-neutral, but never feminine. Maybe this is a personal, subjective notion? (I confess I found R&J2 a miss, both the program, and the costume, nice but for me it meant neither Romeo nor Juliet.)
  9. By the way, thank you for reminding Alain Calmat, "our" Olympic vice-champion (1964) while studying medicine.
  10. Here is the tech panel notation handbook for 2020-2021. Spins are pp.7-17 and I understand the spin loses value under 2 revolutions, not 3. https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/rules/sandp-handbooks-faq/24781-tphb-single-skating-2020-21-final/file
  11. I enjoy very much LMEY but at the moment, I find it a bit less bright technically than the gem that is LGC, and less subtle than tongue-in-cheek PW. I wonder if he chose and co-choreographed it just as a program for a very diminished 2020-2021 season and later for shows and galas, or in view of the Olympics... or in view of jumping 4A. After a 4A he would certainly not be able to skate as he did at Worlds 2017 (my preferred version in spite of this small mistake in the combo and the big judging "error" on it). This doesn't prevent me from watching it many times. As to H&E, it is a masterpiece and I hope that, either he will skate it in Beijing, or he will skate it in 2022-2023 if Worlds are in Japan and he decides to skate competitively until then. I know I will always wish more of it. Yes, I must be deaf but there is one moment rather near the beginning, when I find the music would suit any other skater but cannot support his skate. It is a part with orchestral music and I find the composition to be "on the lower limit" (but I know he likes to have one such moment; and I had the same problem with Origin and in its last version I think it was cut) and the execution/the sound rather poor. I wonder if an orchestra could play it to have a better version? But as a whole it is wonderful and when I watched it, at no moment I thought of SEIMEI. I am not a musical analyst but I really don't see any likeness between these two programs, except that they portray a Japanese historical character? Same for the costume. So I cannot but suspect some prejudice (or pure bad faith!) for those who write the two programs are similar. And when I think he will certainly perfect his skating with time, I really wonder how it is possible but it is always the same with him. He is more perfect than my ideal of perfection.
  12. I hadn't seen this part 2, thank you! 1) Like @robin I tend to think the first concern is if he can return to Canada (with CoViD regulations) and, given what he said about Worlds and Olympics, I got the impression he is trying not to plan uncertain things, maybe to avoid a strong disappointment. This needs to keep open (and acceptable enough) other options. And should CoViD disappear/get a solution soon, while I think he would return to TCC, I also think he may not stay there year round, rather a few weeks once or twice a year? Not only has he learnt to self-coach for many things, he may have also have deepened in understanding the extent of the sacrifices consented by his whole family along eight years at TCC, or their situation may have changed for different reasons (I wouldn't like any public speculation)... He feels so much other people's feelings, certainly his family's even more. 2) I am under the impression that training without physiotherapy to heal sore legs after practice, is likely to be very hard. I don't know if this is why he couldn't jump quads until October, but my feeling is that this is the reason why he limits himself to some jumps and not others, because with these jumps he can recover and skate again the next day, not with a quad Lutz for instance. This is why I read this as the main obstacle against training 4A (because he said he wasn't practising it at the moment, didn't he?) Now he has a mental image of the jump, and I think he will jump it once he can practice normally. Former principal dancer of the Paris Opera, Ghislaine Thesmar, said that she had asked Mikhail Baryshnikov how he could jump such incredible jumps, and he answered her he could jump them when he got a mental image of him doing them. Yuzuru Hanyu is not the only one doing so.
  13. I think two factors concur here. The first one, is the artistic vision and talent. But other skaters had artistic talent, and/or performing abilities, sometimes great, though not to this extent I think. The second one is, that he managed to overcome the inherent handicaps of figure skating : having boots with blades on the feet, and slippy ice under, and sound reverberation, to allow his vision of a new form of dance to emerge. And this required both his physical abilities, his focus and dedication, and his cleverness and understanding of technical matters; plus great coaching and family backing, of course. I don't know for you, but I woke up this morning, and none of the two last days' magical Christmas presents had disappeared : his two new programs, wonderfully skated in spite of his organisational limitations and their being at their first airing. And his smiles! And you know what? I am happy! (More so than Droopy! )
  14. Thinking over the (probably bogus?) call on Yuzuru Hanyu's spin at SP, and "no-calls" for other skaters with faulty elements; and Yuzuru Hanyu's graduation thesis. And the same sort of mess going on in Russia. Could such a system as the one he's proposing in his thesis, be implemented internally by a federation for its national/regional championships, without incurring official blame and/or unofficial retaliation by ISU? Introducing it for instance, as a smaller scale experiment to give ISU more stuff to decide accurately. Being French, I wonder what would happen for instance if a regional federation in France, if there is indeed a regional federation now free from the Gailhaguet-system influence, would decide to implement such a system for their own championships.
  15. I understand the 2020 "Grand Prix" doesn't count for World Standing. So, for the 2020-2021 season, only minor international competitions and Worlds will count, isn't it? Has Robbie Williams reacted to Yuzuru Hanyu's interpretation of his song? I searched but found nothing. Of course I love Heaven and Earth as a program, but also his new costume (except maybe the airbrush paint a bit visible on the lower part), which I saw as flowers and birds figuring Earth as an island in Heaven/Sky. May the dark blue of the belt and gloves figure wisdom? It was my first experience as a fanyu discovering a new program live (many thanks to @Henni147 's mother who may have decided me) and I find myself so lucky! I have an impression of taking a bath of happiness! I am so grateful to him!
  16. I remember an extreme cold wave in Rio with + 17°C, and everybody in the streets looking like fit for a polar expedition; but when you're not used to cold plus windows not airtight plus no heating system plus only light blankets available at home, it is more than understandable.
  17. Welcome on the Planet! Have you known Yuzuru Hanyu long? There is also a thread in Portuguese language in the International section, not very active I'm afraid, maybe you've already seen it.
  18. This photograph doesn't want to tell his true trick. A wild Yuzu would detect a fake zamboni at a mile distance. By the way, am I the only one who, after having watched too much the opening movements of the free skate, now imagine them in front of the white wall/corner of May 6th? Is it true, is it real, the drought is ending?
  19. I suppose he rather listens to Jpop by himself. Welcome, by the way!
  20. So glad he's in good health! I'm not a fan of the SP music but I'm not a fan of Prince's LGC and I love so much the program, so... And his FP, a samurai! But I dared no more to hope such a program, given that he had said once he was not fit to skate as a samurai! I am sorry he didn't have after-practice physiotherapy. It must be hard. And I would totally see him at Worlds with Stéphane Lambiel as an interim-coach, who wouldn't dare to try to recruit him for good ("steal" him from Brian Orser), but I have the impression they like each other very much. Before that, I guessed, now I'm sure : I won't be able to watch the short program live. I'll watch it later, after reading he's alive and well and did this and this. I have been a fan since only last year, and have never seen a wholly new program of his live (except SEIMEI 3.0 but it was rather an adaptation), and now I know it : I'm not brave. I wish everybody (who would accept) a very merry Christmas!
  21. Isn't it a first time too, he assumes being co-choreographer of his programs? I confess I dream seeing a whole choreography by him, competitive or not. And, I guess we will have many discussions after Nationals, to guess where he means to jump a yon-A in his programs. At first sight and being so ignorant, I would say, as the quad jump in his short program because he doesn't lack stamina for a short program, even his which are so taxing, with a "plan B" of a quad jump instead of the 3A if he pops the 4A into a 3A? Because, in a long program, 4 or 5 quads + all what he does (and he will never want to skate an empty program with just elements) is already so incredible. Also, do you think he would prefer us fans not to watch the title of his musics before discovering the programs themselves? (I should consult my MD first, maybe.)
  22. We must be an online lunatic asylum. I feel sometimes like a toddler expecting a big firemen truck under the Christmas tree, sometimes I fear so much, while hoping a wonder (while I find he refines his programs with time), and I keep disturbing my husband. EDIT : @LadyLou I must be a spoiled child, I didn't even search something like that because usually the embedding is automatic. And I should remember that we were told to add the [*NEWS] tag even if we were not sure it were. Thank you for the embedding by the way!
