That day he was the quintessential Romeo. Not the exact Shakespeare character, nor the character of the musical (which I don't know), but the essence of youth in despair, impatience and love. I have never heard about such an interpretation even in a theatre or movie, not to speak of skating or ballet where there is a demanding technical part to master before acting, let alone the skating itself. Because when an actor is good and experienced enough to play Romeo, he doesn't have the fire anymore, even less the youth. Here we have the exceptionally early talent, (I am sorry for the pains themselves, I still wish so much he wouldn't have had them though they were so useful to his talent and dedication) the physical and moral (the latter so deeply felt) pain, and his already wonderful skating to enhance it. He IS Romeo, forever. Fall and all. And before watching it, I just thought Romeo was an impossible part. We all hope he skates to Romeo again, but now he is a grown man, I wonder if he could. I don't mean to influence the vote because I have no opinion as to which must win (and I refuse to choose, so I don't vote for this bracket).

In fact not Seimei but the so different Origin at SCI and at GPF, made me think of a parallel with horse riding (where I am even more ignorant than in skating). I see Skate Canada's as Yuzuru Denka mounting Ice no Kimi, a great show jumping horse, regally managing a jump which approach seemed desperate, with all their usual elegance and mastery. While I see GPF's as legendary hero Hanyu Yuzuru, rushing Ice Tono (are there "superhorses" in Japanese tales, such as táltos horses in Magyar ones?) into an epic battle, sword in hand. It has a feeling of "unreality", of epic, of suspended time, of mightiness.

Wow! That's news! It may be really great, not just anecdotic, because their joint forces could have influence upon RusFed, don't you think so? (Edited : shortened.)

Ice skating FAQ and introductions for new fans
SitTwizzle replied to meoima's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I suppose this short, easy video about spin levels "for dummies" belongs here? Great thread, by the way! I am far from having learnt a significant fraction of it! -
At least from "outside Russia". In wonder if it was hers or her parents'. Though the initial idea, before the pandemic, may have been hers, and tickets taken then, because I had noticed she had quite liked the dinner at Egyptian Museum (World's second most important Egyptian collection) in Turin, even the idea of it, she wore an Egyptian dress. Did it stem from Alina Zagitova's Cleopatra program? Though I am sorry she went to Egypt in spite of the pandemics, I am pleased that she gets cultural influences.

2020/2021 Season Program Announcements
SitTwizzle replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
So, potentially THREE N-D programs next season? Two of which based on the Cocciante's musical, only one remaining maybe on Maurice Jarre's score to Roland Petit's ballet? It was supposed to be danced in Tokyo a few days ago : https://www.ambt.jp/pf-notredame2020/ -
Who is your favorite female skater?
SitTwizzle replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
That's figure skating! Superb! Do you think she can still progress on height and type of jumps? They are really beautiful in slow motion though. -
3. I don't think either, young senior skaters and juniors of today, may have such a long career at top level. For instance, Nathan Chen (who wouldn't get any Gold should scores be accurate, but still he would medal consistently) worries me with his stiff landings. He may have iron joints, he is certainly not a superhuman and I am afraid he will have problems. But I feel more optimistic for those of tomorrow, because some day, Yuzuru Hanyu will coach, and I think, perhaps with the help of doctors (whom he is likely to understand well), he will teach his pupils how to land safely quints. And such know-how will spread. Which doesn't mean there will ever be "another Yuzuru Hanyu" (or any skater with such vision, artistry, in addition to all the skills and jumps which can be taught). I rather think we have him (how lucky), and he is forever. 5. This is really a pity in this situation. I would in no way call Nathan Chen a cheater. His jumps are real jumps. If he is not called for his crossovers, nor gets the right GOEs or PCs, it is not by any of his doing. Yet human mind is prone to manichæism, so we tend to class him among the evil. He "deserve(s) neither such praise" (being the best) "nor such censure" (being a cheater). And as in character he is not a dominant, contrary to Yuzuru Hanyu, I tend to see his situation as imposing itself on him, and he may feel quite uneasy. I suppose Yuzuru Hanyu feels it, from his compliments.

With whom would you like Yuzuru Hanyu to skate?
SitTwizzle replied to SitTwizzle's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Surely they could do quite funny things, and training together would be easier when TCC reopen, but for "classical", emotional duo, I would rather see Alena Kostornaia. The thing is, they could do so many different, extraordinary programs, it is somehow overwhelming. -
Clearly inspired by Yuzuru Hanyu!
-
Oh, we see regularly that sort of rant everywhere (not only Philip Hersh). And The Guardian can have the best as well as the worst (though in general "less worse" than other British newspapers, hard to say from someone who have long admired, and a bit envied, British newspapers).
-
Yes, that's an argument. The argument for 1 being, that doing so, we deprive other skaters of the possibility of getting high scores, which they would have got, being not Yuzuru Hanyu. But there are counter-arguments : scores get tougher when athlete reach the higher scores, that's a general rule in sports and anything competitive, the particularity here being that today one athlete is so high above all others; plus, allowing them scores near Yuzuru Hanyu's would deprive the latter of a deserved advance (at least in Men category); plus, many athletes are better today, just because they were inspired by Yuzuru Hanyu himself, so they don't really lose from his being in the competition. Paskud, thank you for all these names, at the moment I just watched Miyu Honda, she really is excellent! Is she related to Marin Honda?
-
Sorry, I forgot the second possibility. So, the first is to say that Yuzuru Hanyu is 10, while acknowledging he deserves more, thus enabling marks 0-10 to the others. The second is to say that Yuzuru Hanyu is the standard for 10, and there, I think very few skaters would reach 8 (namely, for Ladies I see only Alina Zagitova and Alena Kostornaia for Performance and Skating Skills, them plus Rika Kihira and Evguenia Medvedeva for interpretation, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva rather near for performance, and Kaori Sakamoto also for interpretation, I may miss some), even considering the scale as somehow logarithmic, and many, even at top level, would be under 5 for some components.
-
Oh, nice idea! Can we use fractions, or only natural numbers? I think we can safely admit Yuzuru Hanyu is a reference with 10 in every PCs. But what do we mean by 10? I see two option : - either considering there should be scores above 10 to score him, but as there are not, he gets just 10 and other skaters can be scored on the whole scale (and, please, no "topping" for reasons contrary to ISU rules, as we often see : a popped jump or missed combo, superbly made up by Yuzuru Hanyu, does NOT fit the definition of a "fall or serious error" as it doesn't impact the components, unlike a fall or a very ugly catch-up or hand). The components PDF, by ISU : https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/rules/sandp-handbooks-faq/17596-program-component-chart-id-sp-2019-20/file

I saw prices nowhere? As to terms, maybe you meant : "Tickets are not refundable. There will be no exceptions to this policy. The event schedule and the competing athletes are always subject to change." Well, modifications of the event schedule and competing athletes are not what all-event-ticket buyers fear (unless they come only for Yuzuru Hanyu and he doesn't compete, but no one would think of asking for a refund). Selling a gala exhibition and delivering something where very few competitors would skate and on a much smaller rink, and with some seats not even seeing skate that little, is not a "change" in "the event schedule", it is a mis-selling, an fraud.

He knows me very well. ;-) And, yes, he's much better than "a good husband". The French Mr Knightley, in fact. And quite musical but with no interest for bodily expression, unless really, truly exceptional (in ballet, not even Svetlana Zakharova, but Nikolay Tsiskaridze impressed him). He saw Yuzuru Hanyu in three programs, those of SCI 2019. His first words were how manly he was, even before expressing the beauty of his skate — which touched him, of course. And he saw also 4CC Chopin.
-
Same for me. I am hesitating between buying all-event tickets even before knowing if I can go, as they seem to be with a "gala exhibition" as it used to be (and I don't mind if they just add half an hour Award circus); meaning to protest loudly if they replace it by some ersatz and to refuse to attend it. Yuzuru Hanyu has wonderful masterpieces of exhibition programs, other skaters are way more entertaining in their exhibition programs too, it also show more of them, that's what people want to see, and ISU must understand they won't buy some indifferent stuff, even less attract anybody not already interested in figure skating. And buying individual tickets.

Chopin is the only man my husband has ever been jealous of. We must be different. ;-)

Good idea! I liked very much Eva-Lotta Kiibus' FS dress. Like you, I liked Anna Shcherbakova's SP dress too. Also Alexandra Trusova's SP. Kamila Valieva's SP must be considered from last year? I would add Maé-Bérénice Meité's SP, with all the cultural references and multi-level humour it conveys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e21TYv38YU

Sorry, I was late, but I think it works because I had a message : this meeting ID is not valid. I suppose it was just over.
-
Practically, how do we proceed? I suppose we connect to a site?
-
All perfectly logical, except maybe the July and August ones. How to hold such events? I mean, physically, because maybe there could be some way of holding them virtually?

About Maya Plisetskaya's Dying Swan I rather agree — much less about Diana Vishneva, though maybe I was not lucky when I saw her live (in tour, and not conducted by Valery Gergiev : with all his scorning ballet conducting, who is playing and who is conducting makes a huge difference).
