Oh, sorry, I thought she had announced it! It was because she was visiting Montréal cathedral, wasn't it? -
2020/2021 Season Program Announcements

Clearly the new trend for next season! -
I should love it but as a good French, I must denigrate my own country with two objections : - last year the ice was not that good, from what I read; probably not to the taste of our preferred iceologist; - last year too, the President of Grenoble Métropole (the intercommunal structure of Grenoble and neighbouring towns), who is a Chemistry professor (probably not very learnt in plastic medals though) gave Gold to Mariah Bell instead of Bronze : not sure Yuzuru Hanyu would be as pleased as them. ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzeqIgEAPhc

Well, you can send it by paper mail to Yuzuru Hanyu himself, or any of his coaches (Brian Orser, Tracy Wilson or Ghislain Briand), either in English for any of them, or in Japanese for Yuzuru Hanyu, or in French to Ghislain Briand, at their skating rink : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Cricket%2C_Skating_and_Curling_Club Or to Tracy Wilson's Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/p/B9pS2Q8JNWw/ Yet, I feel Yuzuru Hanyu may already have chosen one of his programs for next season, or both. At least he did review a number of musics, when he switched programs between Grand Prix Final (December 5-7) and 4CC (February 4-9), as he said it himself.

Beauty blogger? Do you mean, a thread here as a mock beauty blog, with his best photos, face, hair, figure, hands... and mock beauty/fitness advice and real observations? I should like it! But wouldn't it be, sort of making too much of a "Yuzu doll" out of a real, awesome person?

I could not, even knowing the program. His interpretation of each of his exhibition (and even competitive) pieces, depend so much on the moment. Would he have been once more robbed of a gold medal while having skated the best, head and shoulders (and waist, and thighs as usual)? Would he have had a "fall festival" and "not deserved" gold and felt kuyashii, and with what nuances? Would he have had his deserved gold after all, in spite of an unavoidable underscoring, maybe with a world record? Would he have landed Nessie? How would a half empty venue have affected him, and how would the crowd have reacted? Maybe Pooh-rain forbidden because of virus contamination potential, or taken by masked and gloved flower-girls to be put in quarantine? Plus his own complexity of mind and feelings, of which we know only part of the surface in spite of his openness (and of course, this mystery adds to his charms, and to fanyus' anxieties — do we not like them?) And even knowing all this, I couldn't imagine how he would have skated his program. After all usually I can watch it, and I feel quite privileged for it.

Well, there's already a bat, but not in the same cave. ;-) https://www.gettyimages.de/detail/nachrichtenfoto/alena-kostornaia-of-russia-competes-in-the-ladies-free-nachrichtenfoto/1201919896

We will likely know afterwards. He is both so open and so discreet. The right opposite of "celebrities". I hope so much he will be "fresh enough", some day, to offer us SEIMEI 3 as an exhibition or show. After all his new costume coulours were thought, more for exhibition and show than for the two competitions planned to include it.

And if Worlds take place after all, this one (from 2016/11/19) would be quite appropriate :

I have started reading Fanart from the beginning, and there is runrun8383's site URL, where I found this picture : Did Yuzuru Hanyu allude to this (2018/7/15) picture when he said (not so long ago) he skated part of SEIMEI fancying flowers blooming under his steps?

I never wanted to watch the movies, because I found the Elves ugly. Should Elves be Yuzuru Hanyu "and the like" (is there any?) I would certainly reconsider. ;-)

2020/2021 Season Program Announcements

Great! I love so much Aram Khachaturian! -
I am not fooled as to his present technique, but I do (I must say I am very ignorant) believe he is able to address it, unlike Nathan Chen with his stiffness and axis instability, although these are less severe problems; because Shoma Uno seems to have great resources left, I think greater stamina potential than Yuzuru Hanyu himself, while Nathan Chen is exhausted.
-
I think he still needs competition to progress further, as a motivation. I don't think he will be satisfied until he has reached his own limit and, his asthma, ankle (and what else?) apart, I feel we are not to the end of surprises. I would bet he will not only land the first 4A in competition (but not until he can do it perfectly and with entry and transition "à la Yuzuru"), but also the first quint. Unless Shoma Uno can before, or a junior of today. Maybe with a quad-quad in-between? Though with present ISU rules, I understand a quad-quad is not very interesting : lower GOE, consuming a "quad right". But Yuzuru Hanyu doesn't only work for immediate scoring rewards.

"The more I study him the more marveled I am. I bet we dont even know half of the amazing things he does, or if we know them, how actually amazing they are. We always say he is in another level, but I really think it is even truer than what we realize." Thank you so much for this thread! The paragraph above is so exactly what I think of him (and, in fact, of the two other living G.O.A.T. I know). I prefer Maths but, between this Tweeter account and another one subtitled "As a Physicist, I feel personnally attacked by Yuzuru Hanyu", I wonder if I should not reconsider my coldness towards Physics. ;-) (Plus the strong motivation of understanding better "the Physics in Yuzuru Hanyu's skating", of course.)

A Recent Brian Orser interview (Junior World Championship, Tallinn)
SitTwizzle replied to Fay's topic in Translations
I don't see there a contradiction. I read (but I don't remember the source : the coaching team or a fanyu) that Yuzuru Hanyu had asked JSF to assign Ghislain Briand. It can be that at first, he thought it was not a choice from Yuzuru Hanyu, or that he wanted to downplay without lying. Something else in this interview made me think : his ignorance as to Yuzuru Hanyu's projects for next years. True, Yuzuru Hanyu is secretive towards everybody. But I felt there was more to it, and now I have an idea. It has much been said, and by Yuzuru Hanyu himself (but many years ago) that once he would have jumped "Nessie", he would r***re. This interrogation by Brian Orser may in fact, suggest Yuzuru Hanyu, to this date, is likely to give us NESSIE for Worlds. As to r***ring just after, I don't think so, unless he cannot continue with his ankle. Nessie's sister (5S) would be too good! Plus a third OGM! ;-) (maybe I believe too much in my dreams). -
I didn't find a thread about Yuzuru Hanyu's general athleticism. I was struck to read about Yuma Kagiyama's or particularly, Alexandra Trusova's admiration for Nathan Chen. I couldn't put words on it for long, but could it be that very young, but talented, high level skaters like them believe Nathan Chen may be in any way "more athletic", have "more stamina" than Yuzuru Hanyu? I concede Nathan Chen's stiff landings and sometimes struggling axis may consume a lot of energy. But, please tell me if I am wrong, Yuzuru Hanyu could have Nathan Chen's FP and its "five quads" for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and skate it much better, and with a strong "consistency") should he find it somehow useful to improve his practice (but would never insult figure skating, ISU rules and his public by doing such a poor program in competition); while I am absolutely certain Nathan Chen couldn't, even after months of practice and if it was the key to next OGM, skate any of Yuzuru Hanyu's recent programs, even replacing quads by triples and triple Axels by double Axels (and, of course, replacing Biellmanns etc). Do you think these young skaters will mature and see it? Would it be possible (following Rockstaryuzu's advice about stupidity and ill-will) that some judges don't see it, and see precisely in Nathan Chen's desperate struggle to keep up with at least Yuzuru Hanyu's BV, a show of athleticism, and in Yuzuru Hanyu's "effortless" grace and mastery, a proof that his program is easier than the former's, as even such a thin, graceful creature can skate it?
-
This is what I meant with "make them speak". You may look for instance Alina Zagitova's in her Cleopatra program, the shape she gives her back and arms, to give them the "Egyptian Nights" by Fokine aesthetics of its first part; or Alena Kostornaya's "vampire shape". But to this Yuzuru Hanyu adds arms movements, and though no skater, I am under the impression that any arm movement in a spin is extremely difficult and puts the skater at a risk of losing balance and fall — or at least travel. And these very arm movements are interpretation of the music to. He makes skating reach such levels! Sorry, I can't watch videos right now, so I couldn't see Roman Sadovsky's and Yulia Lipnitskaya's yet. Oh, how nice! One of ANA's three A380, they use them to fly from Narita to Hawaii if I remember well.

Junior Skaters of 2019/20 Season
SitTwizzle replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters
Thank you very much! So he he gave the lowest PCS of all the panel, to most skaters, including Canadian Stephen Gogolev. OK then. -
Oh, thank you, I have never watched her yet, I think I should now.
-
I understand Nikolay Tsiskaridze (GOAT in ballet, IMHO) being juree in TV-broadcasted children contests (one of which about skating) a decade or two ago (and until now) gave Russian public interest a boost, particularly to skating. And Yuzuru Hanyu already enjoys worldwide popularity, not just in his own country. Thank you for the information about spins scores, I have always found Yuzuru Hanyu's ridiculously low for such wonders and so difficult, do you know why Roman Sadovsky gets better scores? I am not a technical expert but I know only three skaters (the other two being Ladies, Alina Zagitova and Alena Kostornaya) who can "make speak" their spins, and nobody but Yuzuru Hanyu can make such astonishing arm movements during his spins, etc.
-
I would say her short program costume is better — or Alexandra Trusova's short program one, if people prefer one with a change. I like very much Eva-Lotta Kiibus' (FP).

So many interesting, thoughtful comments! Just two details. Katt, I do think if ever Yuzuru Hanyu would go to Team Tutberidze for any reason, they would let him do whatever he wants. Rather (to compare with well-known Vienna's New Year Concert editions) on the extreme side of Georges Prêtre so elated for being given the opportunity of directing the Vienna Philarmonic Orchestra that he let the musicians go as they wanted — with much better result after all, than, to the other extreme, (I renounced to quote his name)'s insufferable self complacency for not-so-bright conducting of the same orchestra, seeming to believe being Austrian gave him talent? More likely in the right middle (yet the best of all, Carlos Kleiber, was so directive, and so listening in fact, but deciding to the least details), and always listening ears wide open, and watching eyes wide open, and setting him as the example he is to their pupils (they are not old enough to be students, after all). One shouldn't believe because their pupil's skating is not as perfect as some would like it to be (and they have nothing to do with under-calling of mistakes, and have problems as "newcomers and not that much network-players" with their own federation), they are blind to quality of skate — or artistry. Of course I speak for now, and I am not sure they would give as much freedom (but how much was really given then?) to a 17-year-old Yuzuru Hanyu, as he seems to have enjoyed at TCC. KatjaTerra, Yuzuru Hanyu is not the best spinner around? Oh please, tell me who is better than him in that respect, that I dive in such wonderful spins!
