  1. Because Joubert did say something sour about Jeff when Jeff won WC 2008 over Joubert. So it's kind of going back and forth. Patrick is no angel but there was a reason why he was mad at Joubert. As for Plushenko, I know many people think a Yuzuru's fan should be a fan of Plushenko as well. But the reality is that, Plushenko is famous for skating with no transitions (well he admitted that himself) and some of Plushenko's comments about his rivals were not very nice as well. So it is understandable why North Americans do not like Plushenko as much. Not to mention, Plushenko's main rival was Yagudin who got much loved in Canada thanks to Tat coaching many of them. Frankly, Patrick, of course, have had many funny remarks, and not all of them are correct. However, he does have a point sometimes. And his comments about the quad guys (like Nathan and Shoma) actually are honest as he knows the impact of the bad technique on body.
  2. Patrick has always been a nice guy. He is just not good with his mouth. He does not play political correctness and he gets hate because of that. And Yuzuru's English made it harder for them to talk anyway.
  3. and digital flags on screen :s_whiteflag Seriously... next season is a headache for me. I do not want Yuzuru to go to NHK Osaka, they hate him there. But if Shoma gets NHK, JSF will throw his scores over the roof. Oh well, still please no NHK for Yuzuru I hope.
  4. My friend Max is around 1m77 and he saw Yuzuru at WC, he said Yuzuru was about his height and a bit shorter. So I think it is safe to say Yuzuru is about 1m73-75.
  5. I know for a reason why I've always loved Lambiel...
  6. Denis Ten might become a politician one day... or an ISU official. He seems to be that type.
  7. I think 9 ice shows in June are fine. Because I have heard that most staffs at Cricket Club will have holidays during that time so even if he stays in Toronto there might not be any coach to watch over him anyway. Just hope that he will be back to Toronto in July asap. If he will do DOI, it's still ok as long as he come back to Toronto right after that in July. I hope that he won't agree to The Ice shows. Mao alone is enough for that shows. Yuzuru please don't do it.
  8. Mai has great skating skills for her age, she's fast and natural on the ice. Her jumps are good too. I hope her the best.
  9. Guys, I am looking at Dream on ice schedule, it's 7-8-9 July. Don't you think it's too late for Yuzuru to stay in Japan? http://www.onice.jp FAOI timeline is actually reasonable and all end in mid June. Makuhari : 5/26 - 5/28 Kobe : 6/9 - 6/11 Niigata : 6/16 - 6/18 If Yuzuru only does FAOI, he will have whole July to August and September in Toronto. I just hope he won't do DOI so he can stay in Toronto and practice his new programs.
  10. Honestly I doubt that Yuzuru will ever try to cosplay Tuxedo Mask because: It has been years but still hilarious.
  11. First time I saw Yuzuru I thought he was such a cocky boy. I didn't like him at first. I don't like pretty Asian boys (hey I am not racist lol I am Asian). But then I saw Yuzuru being cute with Pooh and then I was done.
  12. ^ I don't get they have 4 years to prepare but still no average pairs for the team event.
  13. Yuzuru has not confirmed DOI right?
  14. I doubt it, will he show his new programs at FAOI before DOI? I don't think he ever did.
  15. I do agree with you that Boyang has less control over his landings but from what I see, I don't think the problem is with his alignment. I think Boyang has beautiful alignment in the air (better than Patrick or Javi in my opinion) and when he lands, he generally lands with proper alignment too (foot under the center of gravity, knee over foot, hips and shoulders square). I think the problem is not with his alignment but with his feet and his knees. He needs better plie (softer knees) and I don't think he rolls his foot to push down to his skates then to the ice properly to control the momentum and direction of his skating well after the jump. These are also not good and may lead to their own set of injuries so Boyang, please strengthen your feet and knees! Then again, I'm not a skater but a dancer so perhaps many things are being "lost in translation" so to speak from dancing to skating. There are times when I see Shoma have bad alignment even in his air position. I cannot imagine what stress his body is going through in order to adjust to complete the rotations and then balance himself on the landing. Yes, Boyang has the best technique among 3 of them. I often say Boyang has best chance of walking healthily when he gets old... per Patrick's standards. Boyang has very good air position (tight and straight, except that scary head rolling). I don't think there is much issue with his take off and on air position. Though I think his edge jumps take off are less impressive than his toe jumps. Your explanation of Boyang's landings make so much sense. Since English isn't my first language I also struggle to express what I see in many ways. Boyang's knee and ankle do lack control in the landings, so it give the impression of wonky and scratchy. But we have seen him with very good landings in practice and now and then in competition (like that 4lz at WC). Technically, Boyang can fix that bad habit as we have seen him did better. But for now, his knee should be softened.
  16. Maybe he should troll Brian Orser with a costume like this? ;) You know this is what I saw Yuzuru wore in my dream of Olympic 2018.
  17. Oh no that one was correct, I thought you were asking whether small jumps are harder to control than higher jumps. Though I would also argue even if that is the general understanding, it is not always the case. I'd say Mao's jumps are pretty high but sometimes does not really have the distance but some other skaters who has more distance than height (like Satoko) would be much better and more consistent to control their axis, so it is not only dependent on height and distance when you are talking about the ability of a skater to maintain their axis. I think generally, when comparing between 2 huge jumps, those who have more distance would have the tendency to go off-axis more than those who jump high but barely travels. Height is the defining factor of a successful quad as long as they're not the Axel. All Yuzuru's quads are all very high. That's why when you don't get enough height, you have to cheat like *someone* and land with bad body alignment. But one more thing, the speed going into the jumps has effect on the distance of the jumps. Mao's jumps have ok height but not the distance and she often UR because she slowed down a lot before her jumps. Yuna's jumps have good distance because she throw herself into the jumps. For Satoko, it's easier to land her jumps when they're 30 cm above the ice. The point is, Quad Axel is not some normal quads. It's not the kind you get enough height and you get it done. Some skaters can slow down before usual quads like 4T and still get the 4T done. But 4A? You need both crazy height and insane speed. (That's why I laugh at people saying Shoma can get the 4A. Please... he doesn't get enough height for normal quads and have to rotate almost one revolution on ice...)
  18. Yes. Shoma's short legs (and low center of gravity) are the main reason that helped save his landing with VERY bad body alignment. You will never see Yuzuru, Nathan or Boyang having that kind of landings because their bodies could not afford that. Their long limbs might be tangled right away. However, bad body alignment is bad body alignment and it will leave bad consequence.
  19. As a fascinating discussion started in the Layout thread, we've decided to move all the relevant posts here, so as to facilitate the discussion on jumps, their landings, etc when it comes to all the skaters that might peak your interest, and not just Yuzuru. Thank you @Fresca , and everyone, for the fascinating discussion and hopefully it'll continue! Edit by Yatagarasu ____________________ Nathan's wobbly landings (and even Boyang's wobbly landings too) are due to bad body alignment. They are small and they rotate very fast but they do not control their speed and power in the landing enough. In short, less control if you compare to Yuzuru, Patrick, Javi's landings when they do well. Boyang and Nathan, nevertheless, have true Lutz, while Shoma does not.
  20. Skaters either jump very high (like many skaters in the past like Plushenko, Petrenko...) or very far Yuna Kim. If you look at some old-fashioned skaters like like Voronov or Gachinski, they still jump high like in the old day. Look at his 3A here: Jumping high is talked to help you maintain your axis very well. So if you want to stay straight in the air and not off-axis, jumping high might help. Maybe that's why Plushenko rarely messed up because he jumped high, not too far on the ice though. Nathan also jumps high, but the distance is not impressive. However, when you jump that high, you have to cut the distance. Their jumps might be high, but the distance might be less than some later generation like Patrick, Yuzuru, Han Yan. These guys jump very far across the ice. Patrick, Yuzuru have both the height and the distance in their jumps (Javi only has height and distance in the quads, his triples are meh). Especially, Yuzuru, he can jump higher 3A or longer 3A if he wants to. The 3A we are seeing Yuzuru doing today are not the best 3A he can do. Because all of his 3A now are performed in the second half of the program, out of difficult transitions and in combo. And those 3A of Yuzuru are already huge. If you want a huge 3A from the beginning, without difficult transitions, with crazy height and distance, certainly Yuzuru can do it. He just does not do it. So I have no doubt he can even perform bigger 3A than he is doing now.
  21. I have just seen this on Twitter, a quick lesson to compare what is a true Lutz and what is a Flutz: I feel bad for Nathan and Boyang...
  22. Well with Oda talking about the Chinese guys possibly landing quints ... yeah, good luck to us all after the Olympics are over. The only Chinese guy who can do quint is Boyang and there is no news about that. And the reality is most skaters struggle to get 3.75 rotation on air, how can get they 4.75 rotation on air to get a quint. Unless they want to try 4.25 rotation on air and get it called a quint by some very very low standard.
  23. Or Summer Wars OST, Yuzu mentioned before that he likes the movie. All 3 have similar melodies, so can be mixed. Olympic season. He won't choose some anime music.
