The analysis of Yuzuru's Romeo Juliet 1.0 final sequence
-
Yes, knowing Yuzuru's OCD personality, I wouldn't be surprised he has had like 5 pairs each season just to be safe. I think the issue with Nathan might be that he is still growing so his boots couldn't fit after a few months? One interesting point about Yuzuru, we never ever heard he says anything about boot issues. And we know Yuzuru is super picky and that his foots have special sizes. He once said he wore EDEA and has to choose bigger size than his true size because their boots are narrow. I am sure Yuzuru has boot issues just like any other skaters. He just doesn't tell us.

I really want Gracie to do well but... poor girl... hopefully she will be happy.

It's hard for Russia to get team gold at Olympic though. Their ice dance... oh well... and their men...

I don't think Nanami gets enough credit for what she gave Yuzu. Look what she's teaching him here? Alignment in his air position for his jumps  If you don't have this during rotation, there is no way you can land your jumps correctly. How many times must she have done this for him? I do think for some reason Miss Abe's teaching skills clicked with Yuzuru. Because I saw her other students and their jumps weren't that good. It's sure that Miss Aba and Mr Tsuzuki helped Yuzuru to become the Yuzuru skater these days. Their teaching might have some sparkle with him. And of course... we might say Yuzuru has so much natural talents so he has gotten all the best from his coaches. Natural talents for good technique  About Miss Abe: I heard that she is more of a choreographer now after her marriage. Her husband still helps Yuzuru with his blades.

Interesting, how so? I haven't paid attention to his spins. His spins...let's say not well centred. Traveling all around the ice. I hope at least this problem will be taken of by the time. My friend Hillary said: "How come Shoma got many +3 for his traveling spins?" Shoma is a good spinner. But his spins aren't always good. One more weird judging issue. Oh well but they also give Javi a lot of +2 and +3 for his poor spins so...

It will be worse for a while when you try to relearn your technique. Mao was sorta lucky that during the time she relearned her technique, JSF had no one else but Miki, so Mao still got sent to WC despite 2-3 years of struggle. Shoma technically does not have true toe jumps. All his toe jumps are edge jumps in disguise. I am not surprised if Shoma fails all his Lutz and Flip for 2 years if he tries to fix his technique. And it's not even sure that he can fix it. The issue with Shoma's technique is that, had he tried to fix it 2-3 seasons ago it would be better a bit by now. But he and his team decided to build tower on weak foundations so... they're getting huge scores for now but with weak foundations you never know when will it crash.

True, the coaches shoulder some responsibility. Looking at Mao and Kanako who were such strong natural jumpers I think about what might have been I think the coaches shoulder almost ALL the responsibility. you don't really get to choose what your technique is like when you're 10? 15? learning a triple or a quad. you don't even get to choose your coaches most of the time. bad coaches are ruining their skaters' futures. i see 8, 9 year old girls jumping doubles that barely get off the ground with HUGE mule kicks at my local rink and i just cringe thinking about it. what if those girls want to go on to be internationally competitive one day. Even top skating coaches also take their students from somewhere else. Liza wasn't taught her basics from Mishin. Yuna learned her basics from Korean coaches, not Orser. I do think most coaches know what is considered good technique what's not. But how correct technique of a skater depends on how much the parents want to invest in their child. Do they want the kid to compete at bigger stage or they just practice it for fun? If for fun then who needs good technique. If the kids somehow get some triples, move them to international stage, but by then the weak technique might have become a habit. How much do the skaters want to change their technique for the better? How much do the coaches want to go through to help their skaters? It's hard to say. I don't think Yuzuru was lucky to get coached by mr Tsuzuki. Many of his fellow skaters at the same rink didn't reach to national level (and don't mention international level). So good technique has a lot to do with: - Natural talents - The early coaches who pay attention to details, and even if they pay attention, if the skaters don't want to fix their technique then it's done - How much the skaters want to adjust and improve their technique

Skaters won't fix things that are not called. Yuzuru wouldn't have fixed his 3F if he didn't get e calls and fell on the Flip at Sochi. Look at it this way, fixing technique at this age (over 17) is very tiring and might take a long time (look at Mao) to be stable again. So if judges don't call it, no skaters will fix their technical issues.

I will marry his 4A. Is that still available?

I don't share this belief at all, this last Shoma interview actually assures me more than ever of that. It isn't even that they ignore his URs and that only rarely they give him a ! on his Lz (WTT was the exception but I doubt very much it's a beginning of a trend). It's that flip that should never, never be accepted as a flip. It is so bad that at this point it really is a merger of two or even three jumps, because as someone pointed it out on GS, at which point do we start calling this a creative entry to an Axel? To have this changed, judges must start calling it. It's not going to happen just like that. Yuzuru got his Lip calls and worked on it for example. Unless the system starts punishing them, there is nothing in it for them not to continue as they have been. PCS in general has gone completely bonkers so Marina will simply package Nathan properly and that'll be that. They want it and they don't care how they get it, and why should they? Do you really think anyone but a few skating fanatics will care? Several posters on FSuniverse express the same concern, and believe, they dislike Yuzuru as hell. They are like this about Shoma's jumps: "This is not even a flip, what the hell is this? Is this a loop? Is this a salchow?" How can skaters improve if they do not get called for the wrong technique they do? At least Nathan has correct take off in the toe jumps. And his package with bombastic music sounds easy to judges' ears. I can understand somehow. Judges will just ignore the whole technical issues next season. They will change system after that anyway.

haha a 4F that's neither a flip nor a quad. oh the sadness  yeah it does seem weird that no one cares about it, maybe they knew judges wouldn't care too, hmmm  also, if I'm not wrong, under rotation problems seems to be very common in Japanese skaters from the bigger skating cities? wonder why. And you know that people at FSuniverse care nothing about Yuzuru. It has always been me and Fay updating his fan fest. So FSuniverse people calling out Shoma's fake quads are "crazy Yuzuru's fans" according to Mathman from GS? Oh by the way, Gkelly is also at FSuniverse and she knows of all those technical issues those top skaters have. The Russian specialist who taught me knows as well. She just says the higher up ignore it. Because they can't risk the whole system being adjusted right now. How disappointing is that...

I'm not sure if it's an obsession so much as a wish to surpass the one on top, who happens to be his own countryman. Though I do think with both being from Japan, it increases Shoma's ambition to surpass him now, now, now! Which leads to unfortunate decisions like trying to train a 4Lz when you have a terrible relationship with the 3Lz. There's a reason Yuzu isn't very keen on training a 4F. I find it funny that it seems no one around Shoma (his coaches or anyone) tells Shoma that he has a Flutz and should not take it for granted. And it seems they don't even think Shoma's 3.2F is problematic. I never see his improvement with that so-called "quad" at all. At FSuniverse, people already see that and are like: "No way that is a quad. That is definitely NOT. And it's NOT even a FLip." It is funny why they never try to improve that.

Believe me, Yuzuru already skated clean 5 quads in practice at CC last season. He also might have tried 6 quads or the 4lz. For people to think that he couldn't keep up... he can even go ahead of them. Yeah but it's never the same in competition. And as someone said earlier, trying a new quad (4Lz) in the olympic season is very risky. Do you personally believe he'll add 4Lz? He will definitely add 4lz or he will definitely have 5 quads or even both. :coffee:

Judges ignore his cheated 4F. That's why I am worried he will include 4Lz... I mean 4Flutz and judges will ignore the wrong edge and 3.2 rotations... With Nathan Chen and Boyang Jin being there with huge 4lz with correct edge, if judges ignored Shoma's cheated flutz... there will be outrage. :s_crazy:

For fans who don't understand how cheated Shoma's 4F is, I will just leave this here I have to say it's quite unfair to Nathan honestly. And let me tell you that Shoma's 3Lz is sort of taking off the same. He never has a true lutz. How can he get a 4lz. It's 3.2 flutz you mean? I am amused at the level of ignorance. Shoma Uno almost never has toe jumps. Because he pre-rotates almost 2/3 rotation on the ice and does not use toe lick but whole blade to leaves the ice.

The article just mentions he needs to challenge additional quadruple jumps like the 4S and 4Lz, not that he'll definitely add the 4Lz. Considering his 3Lz(e)(!), I think he'd be better off with the 4S but toe jumps are sort of more his thing, aside from the 3A. I don't know what is going through his head, but he has actually not trained the 4Lz as he has trained the 4S, as far as I know. I agree that a good way to raise Yuzu's BV is a 4-quad FS with a 4Lz and two -3T combos. Still sticks to mostly the same layout as this season but with added difficulty and BV. And then he would need to nail that. I guess it's all dependent on how he feels about the 4Lz in the off-season, though. And given Shoma's ambition, I don't know if Yuzu can afford to not raise his BV next season in some way. If Shoma never looks at his cheated 4F and compare to Nathan's true 4F, I have to question his intellectual ability at a high stage. I know many people like Shoma. But to me he is sort of a boy with high ambitions but not very bright. Shoma himself doesn't know he has a flutz does he? If I were Yuzuru when they showed him Shoma's 3.2Flutz that Shoma failed in practice, I would have cry or laugh like crazy because... - it's wrong edge clear as daylight. - pre rotation, and it's not even a toe jump, it's an edge jump almost because Shoma leaves the ice from the edge. He never has true toe jumps. Yuzuru has no issue of sort and we all know he watches Boyang's jumps like crazy.... for Yuzuru's to be forced to watch Shoma's jumps... oh well.. And Shoma might be stupid (sorry Shoma's fans) to think that Yuzuru won't upgrade his layout. Yuzuru has been practicing 5 quads (and he even tried 6 quads) in practice at CC. Only naive people don't know Yuzuru has all those options in his mind.

LOL your avatar helps in the shade throwing xD Akiko and Kozuka are like: "Hanyu is blah, Shoma is great" Shizuka: "Hold my beer!"
-
I love that Shizuka fought back the Nagoya group’s attack on Yuzuru with such little effort. She only tells the truth and it works. Not to mention she's the Olympic Champion and World Champion, her words weigh much more than others, she is not some skaters who only medalled at WC just once (Sorry I have to throw this shade, I can't help myself).

I support this idea. Banner contest will get members involved and it will be fun!!

Is it surprising that Yuzuru doesn't like strong smell? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C-xLoUXXgAAW7Th.jpg
