  1. Yeah, now that I think of it, maybe a joke thread would be more fun! Very Bold Predictions for the 2017/18 Season - these things totally COULD happen!
  2. But that's for realistic predictions... ETA: but I guess I could try, I'll see if others want to play too!
  3. Uh. I don't really see harm in this? It's supposed to be "bold" predictions, so not something that's obvious. Frankly, I think that Yuzu still has a better chance of winning Olys than any other man, so "Yuzuru Hanyu will win Olympics" is not exactly a bold prediction. "Top 3 Men will jump 2 quads in SP and 4 in FS" - well, duh, I would never have predicted that one. "Anna Pogorilaya will win Olys" though - well, she's got a sliver of a chance but that's a really bold prediction. Obviously, some of those weren't serious. I'm not even seeing it as propaganda much - the predictions are too much off the wall for this. ETA: we could have some fun and do our own predictions, something theoretically possible but not too likely - which section would be better for it: Yuzu or Knicknacks?
  4. In Polish TV we've got 2 sets of commentators, the Eurosport ones and the TVP ones. The Eurosport ones have a tendency to gush (the ones who adore Yuzu) and the TVP ones are very tech-focused. They don't just call the jumps, they comment how they factor in the score. For example, for last Worlds they commented that Kevin Reynolds was a whole different level, when he was the first to jump 2 different quads, pointed out how drastically the score jumped up after Boyang's Lutz or Yuzu's 4S-3t, that Yuzu's 4Lo was "a strong accent", that Nathan's quad contet had potential for enormous score, the commented on Yuzu's GOE for some jumps, "close to perfection". (And they commented how they didn't like Shoma's Loop as muchbas Yuzu's ). They never forget to mention the SP scores. When I listen to them, I'm torn between appreciating that they don't talk too much and being annoyed that they're all about the tech. In the light of this debate, however, this sort of approach might be exactly what's needed.
  5. When I finished the video, and watched it, I was a bit "Hmmm, something's not right, that jump looks odd even though it's now on the note..." and quickly realized that the 3T wass just too freaking small for that music note, it was definitely designed with a quad in mind.... I was tempted to try to cut out the 4T from GPF but because of different color scheme and tv logos it'd be evident, so no good for our OCD either. But damn, the GPF version with on-the-note 4T is mind- boggling.
  6. I'm gonna do some shameless self-promotion and post a revised version I made - the popped toe moved to fit the music - of one of my favorite programs. When it comes to jump-on-the-note chore, POTO beats them all. Plus the best placed ina bauer! EDIT: Akhem, how do I post DM videos? Edit2: I figured it out! Go me!
  7. The GPF LGC is my favorite performanceto rewatch - it's the one I'd put on to introduce Yuzu to people. (Then Seimei, then Chopin, then PW, then H&L). My favorite parts - other than the step sequence to end all step sequences - are the 3A with the kick up (who does that? whose axel is good/stable enough that they can just kick their leg up without putting it down first??) - and the final spin which is the best choreographed to music spin ever. Ever. Omg, I want to marry that program.
  8. I swear, the Nagano Olympics was the most memorable Olympics for me: all top Dance routines stayed with me because if their sheer brilliance, Tara Lipinski's crazy grin when she landed a jump, and Ilia Kulik because of his costume. Before I got intersted in FS again because of Yuzu, there were 4 things I remembered about Men's FS: Yagudin's Man in the Iron Mask, Plush's Sex Bomb, Candeloro's Three Musketeers and Kulik's Giraffe Cow. I couldn't remember what he skated to, or his moves but that thing was unforgettable.
  9. I noticed that too - and was kinda happy because 8i she shows up at Worlds, she'll be staying in my part of the rink.
  10. I'm catching up: 1. Tuk's program is awesome to watch. Gir's got her own style. 2. Med... Maybe it'll grow on me but it's the same old the same old. Her presence is still off the charts, though. 3. Zagitova, not really a fan. 4. Sotskova, for me forgettable. 5. So was Radio tbh. 1. Nice program from Kolyada, a bit of departure from last seasons. 2. Aliev's music is waaay to big fir him. 3. As rough as Samarin is, he does go for it in step sequences. ... I miss Julia, and nervous for Pogo's absence. ETA: I have a great weakness for Voronov but omg that music... Earplugs please.
  11. What if he dressed as Seimei IN SPACE? Then a Tron-like outfit would be totally suitable!
  12. Thanks again moni, the question of the euler and the rules is becoming more clear to this clueless philistine!
  13. Thank you for all the info, moni! My logic was , that if a 0.5 revolution loop is the euler, then why not 1.5 revolution? Not to connect to an axel, just as a connecting jump. I guess your point 3 answers that. Huh, so the jump-extravaganza choreo sequence is out, unless we want to to be completely unrealistc. Good to know what the rulebook says. But then again, it'd be kinda cool if Yuzu just threw away a jump pass in order to show off, placements and anti-fans be damned, lol.
  14. As far as I know, a series of 3As by the virtue of being 3As will not be a combination but a sequence, and therefore receive only 80% of BV. Rules say only 1 3-jump combo and currently he's doing 3A-1Lo-3S. (I wonder if it'd be possible to do a 1.5 revolution euler? Anybody knows?) An extra double at the end of his 4S-3T would invalidate his 3A-1Lo-3S combo. An extra double tacked onto his 3A-1Lo-3S would simply be invalid and worth 0 points because there's no such thing as a 4-jump combo. An extra double tacked onto his 3A-2T would also be invalid because he'd have already done one 3-jump combo. But yeah, I wonder, if a skater did all his 8 jumping passes, could he do extra jumps as choreo sequence. Although, lol, I imagine a sequence of 4 3As after 8 jumping passes would be nigh impossible to pull off even for Yuzuru 3A God Hanyu. Or: " Excuse me Mr. Technical Specialist, those extra 3 3As were just me going for the creative exit bullet!"
  15. .... If he wins at Pyongchang, I want him to stay and pull a Evgenia and jump 3A-3A-3A-3A just for the wow factor. Rules, what rules? Double OGM winner needs no rules.
  16. Boyang should be getting +2 for the height alone. Hahaha, in Helsinki it evoked a major gasp from the entire other side of the rink, from all the Yuzu fans and all, it's so impressive.
  17. It was a great read! It's amazing to know someone being so affected by Yuzuru's skate. I felt kinda something like that the first time I saw him in Barcelona, but it was a simpler elation because of his clear-cut victories, not so emotionally draining. In Helsinki, I too remember that hush of expectation of "can he do it?" and incredible joy at him having a perfect skate. And the relief that I can relax and honestly cheer on others because I was absolutely convinced that no one but Javi could beat his score (it was actually a surprise to me how clise Shoma got). It was also interesting to read about how exhausted he seemed, I sat too far to see K and C and he seemed pretty ok on the screen. Well, maybe with the exception of tearing up and trying to control himself when seeing the score.
  18. Is there a HD video of FoI 2015, Hello I love you, Vertigo and Believe? I can only find low quality ones. Edit: found Believe!
  19. Who of the junior men have quads? Krasnozhon, Savosin, Torgashev, any others?
  20. Thanks, he was such a promising skater, it'd be a shame if that injury and its consequences cost him a successful career. If he returns, he'll have a major job cut out for him, climbing in the ranks.
  21. I've been catching up on FS, and I noticed Sota Yamamoto isn't up for any assignments, senior or junior. Any news of him?
  22. And then all 3 end up skating to Carmina Burana. And Shoma with his Turandot and his Four Seasons ends up being the original one. Lol, I'd kinda dig the Carmina Burana skate off.
  23. "Debuted" as in "performed for the first time"? As in "never performed before"? As in "brand new program"? Or shouldn't get my hopes up?
