I'm so behind on the news and reading 50 pages scares me, so: Did Brian really suggest Carmina Burana to Yuzu? And was serious about it? :: judging face:: Heh, the thing is I actually like Carmina Burana and I loved Rika Hongo's program to it last season, but I kinda don't want Yuzu to skate to music that is thought to be one of ultimate warhorses. (He can totally take One-Winged Angel, though, it's basically the same but not overused. Or Omnis Lacrima.) ETA: So somebody has accidentally guessed Yuzu's FS? Omg, what if it IS R&J or Swan Lake.

Warhorses: Who skated it best?

Hey... Maybe Shome has been mouthing off since he came back from his American training?

The funny thing is, that isn't Yuzuru actually "perfect little Japanese boy"? I've always thought that it was one of the main reasons of his popularity.

When I was reading this discussion, my thoughts immediately jumped to Marin. Very few skaters seem as emotional as Marin. Is emotional openness really so frowned upon in Japan? Especially showing good emotions? Are Satoko and Shoma really the ideals of behavior? (My Mom can't warm up to Satoko because "she's such an unemotional doll", we're from Eastern Europe). Yuzuru's emotional openness can't be the result of his training abroad - he was just as demonstrative under Nanami Abe. Unless this is something that gets temepered with age, but in Yuzuru wasn't because of spending much time abroad? And, hey, there's Oda. In some people it's just genes, no matter cultural conditioning, right?

There would be so much footage that any potential editor wouldn't know where to start! But, I saw Plush's Kings on Ice some time ago, and there was an acrobat/comedy duo (both male) who did a routine to Swan Lake. It was pretty much a parody. -
That's perfect! The Final Time Traveller one in particular is awesome!

Ooh, me too, the moment I saw it, I thought it's suit Chopin! It'd have to be sheer, like the very first pale blue one.

Thanks for the spreadsheet! Kayne&O'Shea go all out with guns blazing: Phantom and Swan Lake! Thst beats even Shoma's Vivaldi and Turandot combo. -
Omg, I'd give him my (potential) firstborn if he wore something like that! Very Johnny Weir.

Perhaps the almost-the-same-one (8-10, 19-20) should be counted cumlatively? If the votes spread, none of them may make it to the top 5.

I think it might be dangerous for Yuzuru. If he's too tired he might do badly enough and not get into GPF - which would be a blow to Olympic momentum. I've just realized how important it would be for Yuzuru do win those GPs. I want him to be in the best shape at the Olympics but winning at least the second GP a d GPF would do wonders for pumping up his reputation at Olympics.

If Yuzu gets NHK, TdF may be too close in time. Usually, skaters get at least a week rest. CoR may prefer Javi but they'll have to take one of the 1-3 seeds. Do they really care about Javi so much that they'd rather invite Boyang or Shoma? Given Javier's inconsistency, he's as likely to lose to them as to Yuzu. More, actually, if we consider what a mess Yuzu usually is at his first GP. Now, if Yuzuru doesn't want/get NHK, anything's possible. Other than CoC, that is.
-
Looking at the events, it's quite possible that Yuzuru might choose SA instead of SC this year, Lake Placid is way closer to Toronto than Regina. Assuming Yuzu will get NHK, he probably won't take TdF, and CoC is out because of Boyang. But USA might not want him because of Nathan and beause Yuzu is usually in a pretty good shape at his second GP. Rostelecom would be good choice because it's traditionally the least stacked GP and Russia has no contender for gold so the judges would have no reason to hold Yuzu down - unless there's Javi too, they might want to prop up a European. But, Rostelecom is early, would Yuzu want to start the Olympic season this early? Off topic: ShiroK, what an awesome avatar! It looks so CLAMPy!

Here's the order and dates of the GP events: Rostelecom/Cup of Russia - Moscow, Oct. 19-22, 2017 Skate Canada International - Regina SK, Oct. 26-29 Cup of China - TBA, Nov. 2-5 NHK Trophy - Osaka, Nov. 9-12 Trophee de France - Grenoble, Nov. 16-19 Skate America - Lake Placid NY Nov. 24-26 I've always heard that organizers take into consideration the skater's preferences. I don't know to what extent though, if the skater's preferences trump the host's interests or not. About Osaka: do they really hate Yuzutu there? Would the audience be rude and fail to cheer on him or boo or something? If Yuzuru got the Osaka assignment, he'd be the only Japanese contender for gold, would the audience do something that would make him feel unwelcome? That could affect Yuzuru performance, but I find it rather unbelieveable that they'd be unpleasant. Besides, I'm sure Yuzuru fans would go there in droves to support him. Now, the judges don't come from Osaka, right? So they wouldn't be likely to hold Yuzu down due to regional bias or Daisuke loyalty. To the contrary, Yuzu being the only Japanese gold contender, they'd prop him up, I think. I still think NHK would be a good place for Yuzuru to go.

The number of warhorses is terrifying... I'm so scared about Yuzu's choices; I know we've been joking about R&J3 but what if he really takes on a beaten-to-death warhorse. -
And he's succeeded. We wouldn't have all that controversy otherwise...
-
Sorry, I know thos was like 20 pages ago, but that's plain stupid. The reason why Yuzuru dominates isn't just his perfect jumps - it's because he's got everything else too. Basically, he's just too good at everything to be beaten with anything less than a bazzillion of quads. Blaming Yuzuru because he's just too good? WTF.

Notte Stellata would be an awesome twist! Did you listen to the metal version of One-Winged Angel? I find it over the top in the way Carmina Burana is over the top (and many of the classical fs selections) and basically, perfect for skating. I've always imagined some of the more chaotic parts would have to be cut and mixed with some breather parts - always an LP in my mind though.
-
Firebird or Swan Lake, nothing like revisiting warhorses for the Olympics. Or One-Winged Angel.

Icenetwork's person of the year

Lol, well, of course, they're an American site. When I looked at the title of the article and the photos, I had to scratch my head, because Jason, Knierims and Caro certainly weren't the ones who defined the season. Sui/Han and Virtue/Moir, yep. The only American skates who contributed to defining the season were Nathan and, maybe, the Shibs.
