I think Yuzu's most defining trait would be his ambition, thus putting him in Slytherin.
-
Yuna was already an Olympic Champion, I don't think the Orser clout would have made any difference. (What might have made difference, though, is that she might have had a higher tech content under Orser.) With Yuzu, the what if is completely pointless to debate because without Orser and TCC Yuzu would have been a different skater. Orser might have provided some clout, but he and TCC also provided the skating skills and programs that helped Yuzu win.

I can't get over the fact that this layout has a 3A3T as the last jumping pass. We're in for a series of splatfests next season, if layouts are going to look like this, aren't we?
-
I just checked, and Adam Rippon did a -3lo combo. Lol, if only he needed it for the quads! But frankly, hips or no hips, I'm baffled why guys aren't doing it when some girls are. I don't think the logic of "it can damage your hips" would suddenly convince them when they're willing to go through astonishing lengths in order to raise their BV. But anyway, in the absence of a -3Lo, ALL top guys do a -2T combo. So perhaps a quad-quad doesn't necessarily help them, but a -4T combo, whether attached to a quad or to an axel, would certainly be an advantage. It wouldn't replace a triple, it'd replace a double.
-
Oh, there's a limitation as to the second jump in the combo? I wasn't aware of that. But maybe for the quadsters with a full or nearly full set of quads(minus 4A ofcourse) a -4T combo would still be worth it, especially when one jumping pass gets cut. A -4T could replace a 2T and release one slot for a triple. Yuzu already had to give up 3Lo for the sake of the quads. Lemme see, let's go ambitiously: 4Lz, 3Lo, 4S-4T, 4T, 3A-3T, 3A-1Lo-3S, 3F The only other way to eliminate the double jumps is to learn a -3Lo combo. Which for some reason no man is doing.

I wonder if seeing Yuzu practice played any part in Nathan's ill-advised SP layout change. Basically, did Yuzu freak Nathan out into damning himself? But Quad-Quad could make a major difference in SP. The rules would allow for 4T-4T. Isn't it why it's so important for ladies to have a triple-triple?

Until the day the Jinx and curses surrounding Yuzu BREAKS!!!
Moria Polonius replied to cinemacoconut's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
I just realized next season's GPF is in Canada. Yuzu should play it safe and try to choose Skate Canada as his first GP, just to get the Candian Silver and First GP Silver out of the way. This time SA won't want him because of Nathan and China won't want him because of Boyang, but SC won't have a top contender after Patrick's retirement, so they should be fine with taking him in. If Yuzu does NHK again, his other most logical choices are SC and TdF. Well, unless Shoma picks SC first. -
As it was pointed out in the Yuzu vs. Patrick thread, the field now is very different from the last quad. Back then it could be argued that there was "Patrick vs. Yuzu rivarly" but it spanned only 1 season. Less even. The following season Patrick was absent, Javier entranched himself as a major force, heck, Denis Ten was in the game, winning 4CCs, having the highest score of the season, beating Yuzu in FS at worlds. Then Shoma, Boyang, Nathan entered seniors and I think they're more of rivals to one other, with Yuzu in the position of the one to chase. It's impossible to predict at this point who of the three will emerge as the best one, or perhaps Vincent or Dimitri or Junhwan or (I'm really reaching here, lol) Daniel will rise as they did. (I'm not really seeing any juniors at the moment who could be a podium threat in the next quad considering how strong the senior field is right now. Gogolev will be senior-eligible in 2 years though, and as we saw this quad, 2 years is perfectly enough to become a top Oly player although Gogolev will have the disadvabtage of an unusually young age so maybe not. Edit: well, Artur Danielian is great for a 14-yo, if he learns quads, he could aim for the top) Perhaps none of them will dominate others and it will remain a multi-name race for the next quad. So, no one parti9cular rival for Yuzu, at least not in my crystal ball! (Not to mention that with chasing the 4A, Yuzu's propensity to injury and the entirely new scoring system, Yuzu might find himself in the position of the one striving for the top again, not just defending the top.)

Yuzuru's chance of competing until 2022 Beijing Olympics
Moria Polonius replied to cinemacoconut's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Uhhh, we could discuss the possibility of a manned trip to Mars and the predictions would be just accurate. -
I don't know much about the fan feud since I'm not Japanese, and amongst the international fans there's nothing that would go beyond "my favorite your favorite" squabbles, but I don't think currently Yuzu has a single "greatest rival". In the last quad, Yuzu was beaten by Patrick, Nathan, and, most importantly, by Javier. In fact, his greatest rival, objectively speaking, was Javier. (Well, probably more if you factor in just fs or sp, especially in the 2014/15 season, or just TES) Now, Shoma is closest to Yuzu score-wise but, well, Nathan is the one who managed to beat him, and a clean Boyang is a force to be reckoned with so I think it will be "Yuzu vs. Other Quadsters" and not "Yuzu vs. One Other Person".
-
So that's why he lookd so proud when he caught that ball, took him long enough! But, quite frankly, did other skaters got that camera-following-them-all-the-freaking-time treatment too? Tbh, watching that made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

The 2014 Patrick Chan and Yuzu Situation
Moria Polonius replied to theblingmonster's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
If I remember correctly, that "I let him win" quote was obviously a joke on Patrick's side. His entire body language and tone of voice suggested that he wasn't being serious. Perhaps not the best-timed joke, but a joke nonetheless. Back then, Patrick was a bit big-headed, I think. (Or a lot big-headed.) He had won 3 world championships, even when he was far far from his best. Yuzu saw him as the one to beat and if I have my facts straight, Yuzu actually asked for the same GP as Patrick so that he could compete against him more. Yuzu's first 2013 GP was flawed and then with his perfect TEB performances Patrick came out on top again. I suppose at that point Patrick didn't feel Yuzu was an actual serious threat so Yuzu beating him at GPF must have come as a shock. Suddenly Patrick couldn't stumble a few times and still win - and against someone with imperfect program either. Suddenly he was straight-out out-jumped. I think that joke "ehh, I let him win" was Patrick's defensive mechanism, a way to say that that result was just him having a bad day and a way to escape the fact that Yuzu was an actual, real threat now. Which was his mistake, I believe. And then Yuzu broke the record again in Sochi SP - which must have disconcerted Patrick majorly. A wrench in his plans that he had only noticed - and refused to acknowledge - three months earlier. One of the reasons I admire Yuzu is that his approach to competition is completely different from Patrick's. Yuzu never failed to acknowledge his fellow competitors, never indicated he might feel any animosity towards them for beating him. If somebody beat him, it meant it was up to him to become even better so that he could return to the top.- 105 replies

Well, if you go to the Olympic channel, they have the entire events available for viewing. If you mean non-Olympics, I guess just youtube the names you want? https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/events/figure-skating--pyeongchang-2018/

Someone here said that the B.esp guys are keen to praise Shoma because one of them has something to with Shoma's coaching? Can anyone shed lights on the details?- 6,825 replies

Well, at least this time Asahi tv won't be able to take it down, lol. High quality video, no commentary, sound the best amongst all the videos I've watched so far. Lower framerate makes Yuzu seem faster than in NBC video but sometimes a bit more blurry and not half as shiny. Seriously, the NBC video is the only one that you can actually see the sparkles.

I too thought that NHK and TdF would be most likely. But that would be a pickle: what about the traditional silver at his first GP? That would collide with a traditional gold at NHK.

I don't know if this made it here. As much as dislike the place, there's a very intersting discussion going on at GS about Yuzu's conference. Very recommended reading starting from user Metis, an insight into a competitive frame of mind coming from someone who sounds like they know what they're talking about: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?70576-Yuzuru-Hanyu-FCC-Press-Conference
