  1. He said in interviews after Pyeongchang that he feels like his mom is fighting alongside him to win, and so it's also her medal as well as his.
  2. He looks so good in this shade of pink. More pink, Yuzu. Please wear more pink.
  3. Big Bird is a nice guy, he probably freely shared the feathers on the condition that Yuzu return them.
  4. Now my mind will be lost to the gutter ALL DAY, thanks.
  5. As long as it's warm and furry and likes being petted, I'm happy.
  6. That's really wonderful! You might think a man of that age would hesitate to copy a frilly costume like that...but he went right ahead and did it.
  7. I'm also geoblocked when I try to watch it.
  8. What a great day. We got confirmation that Yuzu's going to do ACI, and my second niece was born (making me a fifth-time auntie.) My other niece is super-stoked to finally have another girl around.
  9. That wouldn't be bad. I never got to see Origin live the first time.
  10. Probably not, but last time Skate Canada streamed it on their own website.
  11. And quite possibly my firstborn, if I had one. But who's counting?
  12. That would be worth All. The. Money.
  13. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he say in an interview somewhere that he thought it should be a summer sport athlete?
  14. Truthfully, we're doing it to ourselves.
  15. Phew. I was worried that he might decide to skip ACI
  16. That's because penguins are born that way and can't help it.
  17. Is it wrong that I was suddenly reminded of those everlasting Vera Wangs? Because if ever there was penguin suit: (insert image of Nathan Chen in a black-and -white monstrosity here. I forgot to credit the image and can't find the site back that i got it from.)
  18. @Veveco Finally had a chance to take a look at the posted .pdf. You did such an amazing job! Thanks for putting in all that effort.
  19. I helped a friend with some amateur film-making (a Star Wars fan film, of all things) about ten years ago and I ended up on IMDB too. It's like wikipedia, anyone can fill it out. Director Yuzu though...can you imagine? The scene: rinkside, on the set of the new film "The Legend of Nessie: Hunt for 4A". Directer Yuzuru Hanyu watches as skater after skater sails by the cameras, each one trying and failing to give a sense of the glory that is the Axel jump. After the fifth skater, Hanyu jumps up and waves his clipboard in the air. HANYU: Cut! CUT! The cameraman stops filming and takes the opportunity to warm his hands up - it's a cold rink. Hanyu turns to the skaters. HANYU: Everyone, come here please! I have something important to say. The skaters glide over, tired and sweaty, but hanging on Hanyu's every word. He's The King. They want to do their best for him. HANYU: Those jumps were...not enough, guys. This is the Axel we're talking about. I'm only asking you to do 3As, it's easy. Why do they all look so...so.. Cameraman interjects CAMERAMAN: - small? HANYU: - no, they were all small but that's not it. They were missing something else...what is it... CAMERAMAN: - the right number of rotations? HANYU: Well, a few were under rotated, true. Hanyu tries not to look at certain skaters, but they know who they are. HANYU: but, no... CAMERAMAN: There were some pretty shaky landings too. Hanyu shakes his head. HANYU: No, not that... He presses a forefinger into his chin and tilts his head, deep in thought, then brightens. He's got it. He smiles a big scrunchy smile. HANYU: That's right! Those jumps didn't have enough - The skaters look at each other. Suddenly they realize what's coming next. HANYU: Shuuuu...and...Pah! You all need to do it with more Sshhuuu-pa! He demonstrates with a little twirl, smiling brightly. SKATERS, under their breaths: Right. Shuu-pa. Got it. HANYU: Okay, everyone, go again. Ten more Axels each!
  20. They look so happy! Good for them. Every time I see a skater who is still competing get married these days, I can't help but think of Brezina and how his skating settled down and got consistent after his marriage. I wonder if it'll be like that for Kolyada.
  21. Well, at any rate, it's not luck that gives him the win. It's putting in more hard work than anyone else does. Years ago I read an article about athlete superstitions and the role they play in sports psychology. To sum it up, most athletes' rituals and superstitions become a part of their preparation, like a kind of image training. So they do help the athlete, but not because of supernatural forces - it's because they play a role in getting the athlete into a winning mindset. We all know that Yuzu is meticulous about the whole image he creates on the ice, and hair is a part of that. So if he is superstitious about his hair, we can safely guess that what he's most likely to be superstitious about is that it looks right for the performance of the program and fits with the program's image, along with the costume. And in that sense, every hairstyle he wears is a winning hairstyle because they all match his chosen image for each song so nicely.
