2020/2021 Season Program Announcements
fyere0 replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Camera, we don't want Plushenko! We've seen him MANY times before and we've never seen this program!! -
TSL said Raf's students got to train on ice through the lockdown and now I believe it for sure.....
-
I enjoy the implication of these Citizen posts that Yuzu sits at his minimalistic workspace in a dark room with his Me desk accessories and potted succulent and draws beautiful fan art of himself
-
Thank you Yuzu for providing us with a perfect meme template.....you could edit anything onto that towel and make him point to it.

Graduation ceremony is live with English translator!

The ombre of Anna's dress looks beautiful. Highlighting her hand movements with gloves is a smart move but I might have kept the gloves black so they show up better against the ice than the light blue. It's not the same at all but something about it reminds me of Yulia's brown Les Feuilles Mortes dress which I also liked. Probably the sleeve-gloves and the intricate strap detailing on the back.

Non-Commonwealth citizens apparently can receive a knighthood (seems like usually KBE), they're just not allowed to call themselves the title. So he couldn't be Sir Yuzuru Hanyu. But show the Queen LGC or something and anything could happen.
-
Schrödinger's university status has been going on for so long that I just fear he'll cryptid his way through it, won't even appear on the graduation lists at all and we'll never know what truly happened, until one day in the future some official site or social media makes a post that says "Yuzuru Hanyu, M.A.Sc." or "Dr. Yuzuru Hanyu" or "Yuzuru Hanyu, D.D.S., D.Hum.Litt, CBE" and then quickly deletes it and we still don't know

This song by Yoko Kanno would make a very cool free program. (It's actually 'Atomic Bird' ) TIL: Yoko Kanno is from Sendai and attended Waseda!

Any way they spin it, it will be Innocent Eteri and Orser's Fault, and everybody will go along with it. If she fails, it was her time overseas that ruined her and it was too late to help her despite their best efforts. If she succeeds, it was their methods that were successful at restoring her after she came to them in a sad state.

A beautiful dark emerald green, maybe with an undertone of teal, would look very nice with his skin tone. I wouldn't mind that.

Ohoho. So Alena was concerned about younger kids who didn't understand the rules or the pace of the rink, getting in the way while 8 older skaters (already a lot) were trying to train. A potentially dangerous situation. And Eteri didn't do anything about it and then misrepresented Alena as being an entitled brat who didn't want her peers skating with her. SMH.

I like that Rika is moving all parts of her body with dynamism and intention. And similar to Yuzu, her upper body is not static but is moving between higher and lower planes a lot, which adds difficulty and interest. Also really like the spiral with the head thrown back. She just needs to make sure she's giving FIERCE. She's good at giving BUSINESS-LIKE and she's starting to give PLAYFUL, but as Charlize Theron once advised, she perhaps needs to think "MURDER" in order to hit the right tone for what that choreo looks like. Thank you for taking on this project! It's a big task! I have a formatting suggestion to offer: as it is now, I don't think there's enough visual differentiation between the quote and the source of the quote (same problem with the Yogi Berra entry). It might look better if the quotes were in italics so that you can see right away which are the words being said and which are the source. (Also, there are typos in the Chinese saying ) QUOTES TO ADD: The New York Times articles about him around Pyeongchang have some great quotes. It's a legit source so the translations are professional. From https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/16/sports/olympics/figure-skating-yuzuru-hanyu.html Yuzuru Hanyu (presumably translated): “I like to win with some drama.” "Hanyu was every bit himself in both the Olympic short and long program — unhurried, resolute, staking a claim to be the greatest skater ever with his speed, artistry, coverage of the ice and technical skill." [writer] Dick Button: “I think he’s beautiful; he moves like a dream.” Julian Yee: "[He] looks like he wakes up from bed and goes and jumps." Kurt Browning: “If you want him to be [considered the greatest figure skater ever] you wouldn’t be wrong. [...] Why not. He’s everything. He’s the skater, he’s the jumper, but quintessentially, he’s the performer. He seems to have the superpower to take all the pressure, all the expectations and all the lights and all the cameras, and somehow he’s able to use it as a competitor.” From https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/04/sports/olympics/yuzuru-hanyu.html Stephane Lambiel: “He’s the most complete athlete in figure skating, probably ever.” "Hanyu can appear delicate, a boyish Christopher Robin with his Pooh. He also blurs rigid gender lines with his performances, possessing a grace and elegance that fans and journalists say are prized in Japan over a hypermasculine style of skating." [writer] Midori Ito, through translator: “He’s got this aura, this special presence that only he has [...] He’s so fierce on the ice, but in the kiss and cry he’s got his Pooh [...] That gap is what makes him attractive." "His routines bear the appealing, tense contrast between art and athleticism at the heart of figure skating. Sometimes, this puts Hanyu in conflict with himself. He is an unsurpassed virtuoso, but he is also an athlete who wants to jump as proficiently as any other skater, even if that elevates the risk of injury — perhaps unnecessarily." [writer] Yuzuru Hanyu (presumably translated): “I am an athlete, and as an athlete it’s normal to keep challenging to do more and more.” Jackie Wong: “It reminds me of when Michael Jackson was in his heyday, or meeting the Pope [...] People see Hanyu for the first time and they become hysterical or they’re moved to tears. It’s like their lives are complete. It’s crazy." OTHER QUOTES: https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/video/detail/mao-asada-yuzuru-hanyu-is-the-greatest/index_no_cocktail Evgeni Plushenko (was speaking English): "For me, he is number one, because he's [a] great skater from [a] different planet." Mao Asada (translated in video): "He really is an amazing athlete. Even in adverse circumstances he continues to produce results that are far beyond everyone's expectations." https://fs-gossips.com/tatiana-tarasova-answers-whom-she-would-like-to-see-as-the-winner-of-isu-skating-awards/ Tatiana Tarasova (translated in article - not sure who translates things on that site): "He is not just a skater, he is a phenomenon. In the history of figure skating, there were outstanding skaters, but Hanyu is different. He is a celestial. His short program alone [Chopin’s Ballade No. 1] is a program at the end of which you should not get up, but kneel down and thank God that we are lucky to see this. This is not just one hundred percent hitting the music, not only the most complex elements that hit every note, but some kind of absolutely amazing fusion of human soul and music. I saw this only twice in my life and not on the ice, but in ballet: when Maya Plisetskaya danced The Dying Swan, and Mstislav Rostropovich accompanied her, and in the ballet studio in New York, where Diana Vishneva danced and Valery Gergiev conducted. Yuzuru Hanyu’s skating is a phenomenon of the same order." Quotes I don't think are relevant: "Yuzu is an interesting kid." (Funny, but probably not worth being on the page ) "You're seventeen, what're you gonna do?" (doesn't say enough out of context, it's just a casual aside)

Back in 2009, Yuzu's total score was 113 points higher than young Viv's..... that would definitely garner some awe.
-
When you don't know what a "quadruple axel" is and you Google it, a little paragraph comes up at the top that helpfully says "no figure skater to date has landed the quadruple Axel in competition."

Phil's last THREE tweets about Yuzu have been more accurate and respectful than the Olympic Channel.....I don't trust this state of affairs, what is going on?

FS costumes are all stretchy and he didn't have any major growth spurt after moving to seniors. I think he only grew a few cm since the age of 14 or so, which was very lucky for his stability. So his costumes still fit because they just have to stretch sideways. His pants are fine too because they've always had extra fabric at the bottom, so that they cover his boots perfectly no matter what movement he's doing. The only real problem is that his sleeves are a little too short now.....I noticed the 'stripes' on the R&J 2.0 costume sat at slightly different spots compared to his elbows in 2018 than they did in 2012

Can't believe the most powerful man in Japan announced he was stepping away for health reasons.....AND THEN Shinzo Abe announced his resignation on the same day In all seriousness, I am very proud of Yuzu and the decision he's made. What a leader he's grown up to be. As always, the sport is lucky to have him.

I remember Adam tweeting after the reveal of Otonal at ACI that it was his new favourite Yuzu program. He loves it. He may be able to manage most of the StSq with a lot of practice, but that hydro -> leap.....ganba

Ohh, interesting but not surprising. I think that's a good direction, he'll make sure she has something musically solid and expressive. I like his programs way more than Lori Nichol's lately. (Side note but I just learned that he choreographed Nobu's iconic YMCA .....you don't need to give Rika a FP like that, it's ok ) -
That last part doesn't really fit Yuzu. It could be Jackson Yee.....all the clues fit him, including the ice one (he was on a hockey show). He is a singer/actor/dancer who's won awards and has 4 characters in his name. He looks a little like Yuzu in silhouette but his hair is more poofy. If Yuzu were to enter a sponsorship with a tech company I would think it would be one that makes MUCH higher-end headphones than Panasonic

I expect them to just show those (harrowing) 4A attempts from GPF practice

Doing the ISU's work for them for free. That Most Valuable Skater award really hits on a different level now I'm so happy for him and I hope this is a weight off his mind! Imagine, the past year or more, every time he went for a jump in competition, his thesis probably flashed before his eyes.....
