Welcome! I think the exact meanings of all Yuzu's hand and head gestures are really only known to himself. He doesn't seem to be communicating with his coaches - more like he does it to keep track of jumps and add up points, and to help himself visualize where on the rink he's going to do things. Twirly finger usually happens when he's displeased with a jump and he's telling himself he needs to do it better/do it again. I love this fancam from the 2017 Autumn Classic, where he is clearly going over Javi's layout and calculating Javi's score as he skates (ETA: or, who knows, maybe he is going over his own skate that he just severely messed up...), with all kinds of Yuzu sign language. Point to the temple means something, nod means something, varying numbers of fingers mean something. His brain works so fast and in mysterious ways!

I find it so funny that Yuzu is repping skin products that have alcohol as one of the first ingredients. Of course Sekkisei would be a tad milder than hospital disinfectant.

I wish I could look at it optimistically, lol. But pessimist that I am, I see two years of Kolyada being against Yuzu in every GP as RusFed saying "he won't win.....just send him anyway." His career is just so frustrating to me, when he's talented enough that he should be regularly beating that entire Rostelecom men's field.

It sounds like he might stay in Japan at his own rink and train remotely. Essentially what Nathan and Raf are doing, and what Yuzu has done with Brian at times. I can't really wrap my mind around Shoma actually physically moving to Sambo. Training independently at home with a different eye on him and a different choreo team, I can see.

He's had skaters with competitive quads, though you're right that he's not exactly on the cutting edge -- I don't know if he's ever had anyone who's trained a 4F or a 4Lz. He also might not be 'name' enough for Team Japan at the moment. But I think Shoma and Julian Yee would vibe really well as rinkmates.

Watch Shoma wind up with someone who isn't on the radar at all. Yuka Sato in Detroit. Doug Leigh at Mariposa. Tsuzuki-sensei, whom we know can train jumps.

Don't joke... I'm sure Yuzu is watching..

Wow. I'm proud of Shoma for taking this big step, especially at this point in his career! His adjustment will be rough no matter where he goes but he needs something new, even if he has to sacrifice this season for it. The only thing I worry about is......almost every 'name' coach out there (and his team won't settle for anything less than a 'name', Shoma's one of the top men in the world) would be a sh*tshow for his specific needs, or would be a problem with the current roster at that place.

Zhou talked about him in a very recent video interview but I can't find it. (This is unhelpful. )
