LGC (2.0) was a very smartly designed costume! The vest hit at just the right spot, and the shades of purple were used well. If both the top and the bottom had been the same shade it would have strayed too far into Brian territory (sorry, Brian, but that was the '80s purple jumpsuit, we needed the 2010s purple jumpsuit ). And the darker, cooler pants colour wouldn't have gone as well with his complexion as the lighter, warmer shirt colour, so they kept that one near his face and the darker purple on his legs. Requiem...I can see where it came from. It does look like swirling water and debris, and sometimes the waves are close to that light turquoise shade. It's very intricate and beautiful up close and the exposed 'flesh' strips are designed well. But it's juuuuuuust a touch too far into wintergreen toothpaste territory. Otonal 2.0 I think has a similar problem as Requiem in that it doesn't really have a front focal point. Everything is just folded over, and the textures are very pretty all over, but there's nothing to focus on the way you can usually focus on an embellishment or the cut of a neckline in his other costumes.

This is an interesting comment because I think that's exactly what I like about 2.0 - imo the program needed, and still needs to some degree, to be humanized. Last season he was very removed in Origin, like he was striving for something that wasn't him, was outside of him. Plushenko, the ideal future him of his childhood self, the invulnerable image he thought he had to live up to after a year of vulnerability, whatever it was. The lonely god thing was really intriguing but I think it also prevented me, and maybe prevented him a little bit, from totally connecting with the program. It didn't feel personal enough and the costume, while amazing, contributed to that because it was so different. I think 2.0 feels more like him. It's still powerful but it's more delicately beautiful, in the vein of his past costumes, and the colour makes him look healthier. Just like the program, 2.0 has those playful little flourishes 1.0 didn't have - the butterflies, the whimsical swirls of sparkle, the flashes of red like flashes of his personality. I agree that it doesn't really fit the music, but I don't mind because I will never completely like the music anyway. Yuzu needed to, like he said, move away from skating like Plushenko and be more like himself for this program, and sparkling purple Midsummer Night's Dream fairy is definitely not a costume Plushenko would wear.

ISU 1: Our sport has become a desiccated husk of its former self due to our mismanagement. ISU 2: Sad. What do we do? ISU 1: I know! Let's set up an online awards voting site where all fans of figure skating can come and support their faves! ISU 2: Great idea! Do you have a plan worked out to handle the immense number of visitors this system will no doubt receive?? ISU 1: Yes!! It's on this USB stick!!! ISU 2: ... ISU 1: ...
-
I don't like this voting system. You can't see the results in real time, it's too simple to make multiple accounts which will 100% lead to accusations of unfairness later on (guess who will bear the brunt of those?), and it's not that reassuring that your vote actually went through..... Also, the ISU deciding for the first (?) time to order skaters by FIRST name instead of LAST name is a pretty blatant manipulative tactic. Like the way products are arranged in a grocery store. They want to direct you towards certain things and to have you walk by/scroll through the options they want you to see. People are spontaneous and their attention spans aren't that long, especially online, and they may click on a shiny that attracts them before they get to the bottom. If Zagitova, Trusova, Shcherbakova and Samarin were all the way down there, it wouldn't be good, but Alina, Alexandra, Anna and Alexander are more likely to get votes. Of course, there are many people currently whooshing straight down the page to Y anyway, so not like it matters in the grand scheme. xD

Before I saw the pie plate I thought he was calling Yuzu his chicken pot pie and I didn't question it.

Banana.....I had to stop there. Nothing can make a cup of banana hot chocolate either any better or any worse.

JSF: *doesn't politick for him in an an insanely political environment where athletes from all other big feds are getting generous boosts to keep up with each other's inflation* Media, Commentators: *won't shut up about the achievements and many superior talents of his direct rivals* Yuzu: *does an excellent job* Media, JSF: Why wasn't it a world record...we thought you were the best... Somewhat Of A Disappointment...you were supposed to cure cancer during the FCCoSp...guess you tried...+3

It had inflated Piles of Confectionery Stuff.
-
You mean the drink with the heaps of flashy, sugary unnecessary crap on top that completely conceals the actual taste and quality of the hot chocolate underneath has inflated PCS? Oh Yuzu, Yuzu.

Once again, ripped his exact music edit off YouTube. I'm not sure what her dress has to do with Seimei, with all the hearts on it. It looks more like something you'd wear for a playful jazz program. She's good, though!

It's so hard to tell with his boots because he always has those covers on. xD I think the Piano switch was probably soon after their release, because he needed the heavy-duty support for so many quads. Maybe the 2016-2017 season? For the blades, as far as I can tell he's been using the P99 Revolutions since the fall of 2011. The colours of the upper attachment parts have changed - first they were all silver, then the blades were silver but the attachments were black, and now of course he has ditched the silver blades and has all black. In the spring of 2010 he was still using something simpler, maybe the regular P99. He sends his blades all the way back to Sendai to be sharpened by the person who's been doing them for years and knows exactly how he likes them. If I'm not mistaken, this person happens to be Nanami-sensei's husband. There's a video somewhere of Yuzu visiting his shop.

I very much enjoy how Pez-zuru Ghanyu just CHUCKS those chocolates. He's not just offering you a chocolate, he is going to shoot it out at you with bullet force, going TAKE THIS CHOCOLATE!! IT'S MY JOB!! Even Pez-zuru is designed to give 150%.

This caterpillar is where his butterflies come from...

Jordan has filmed practices at TCC a bunch of times over the past few years, so now that he's worked directly with Yuzu, maybe Yuzu will be amenable next time he's there.

I can't believe Javi managed to unite the nations of Spain and Japan, inspire future generations, and promote a positive image of figure skating with friendship and good sportsmanship, all on his own, by himself, with nobody else except occasionally that Hanzuru guy who lost to him that time. A truly tremendous feat.

Also known as: Yuzu, The Prince, Mushroom, *~*Mushy*~*
-
If you Google 'Yuzuru Hanyu Evan Bates' you'll get a whole series of them (ETA: It was 4CC 2017 in Korea.)
-
Yuzu is so well-versed in junior skaters.....so he watches JGP.....so he has seen all the junior program and costume tributes to him

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA @ ISU: Throw this entire awards show idea in the garbage, and feel free to chuck yourselves in along with it for even thinking this could possibly help the sport in any way. Of all the urgent issues that need your attention, you're spending millions of dollars on a popularity contest that will cause fans to rip each other apart when their faves don't win. There's rampant abuse in the sport. Corruption at the highest levels. Bias, ineptitude, and lack of adequate training in judging. Replay technology that's twenty years behind the times, promised upgrades to make scoring more accurate that have never come. An out of control tech race with no research into its long-term physical effects. Body image and eating disorder issues. Grossly inflated ticket prices that prevent young people and low-income people from directly experiencing the sport. But no, clearly what we all want to see is a televised event with Daniil Gleichengauz tearfully receiving his Best Choreographer award from Adam Rippon and Kurt Browning in sequined tuxedos.

Me at the start of GP season: My soul feels empty somehow...like something is missing.....but I don't know what........... Japanese TV: *releases annual GP series Turandot ad with ultra dramatic posing, Yuzu being seductively threatening at the camera, and blindingly shiny SFX* Me: Ah, there it is.
-
Absolutely. The first thing I noticed was the word 'Yuzu' on the packaging in handwriting that looks similar to his, but isn't - the cursive with the big dominant Y and fancy z. And it looks like a signature, not a font. People who aren't paying attention might think *that* Yuzu was really associated with it and buy it because of that. A tactic I would 100% expect from the Disney company, tbh.

What will be Yuzuru Hanyu's EX program for the 19/20 season?
fyere0 replied to Henni147's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
The fact that ToshI is releasing official tracks of the FaOI versions of both CM and Masquerade points to one of those. I'm getting Masquerade feelings - Yuzu surely didn't miss how popular it was, it's a lot different from both his competition programs, it's Japanese but it translates easily internationally. Everybody knows that PotO riff.- 65 replies

The best thing is the person behind the camera murmuring "ohh...sugoi..." in such a gentle, reverent tone as it zooms in for the Yuzuboobs closeup shot.

I was wondering this myself. In order to be able to get anywhere near the 4A he has to have found a happy medium between being muscular and solid enough for power/stability/rotational force, while still being light enough to maintain airiness and speed. Speaking of muscles I think Yuzu has built up his abs too, or maybe was at a point at ACI where he'd increased his calorie intake and his in-season body fat % reduction hadn't kicked in yet. Or both - more muscles underneath making any slight gain more apparent. He has a little more belly curve than normal which I think is what makes Otonal 2.0 extra poofy looking in the midsection. I wonder if the O A K T R E E H A N Y U look will stay or if some of that bulk will melt away as the season progresses.

The composition is making me laugh so much. It's a soap opera! Yuzu going to push Gabriella out of the way (by the head, ouch) so Guillaume might be free to lift him...but just in case Guillaume rejects him, he keeps one hand on his backup Cong Han, who is kind of short but still very capable. Cong is getting ready to betray Wenjing and yeet her away so his arms will be free for Yuzu. Meanwhile, Alina and Rika are merging - together they will create one skater, Rikalina Zagihira, the top ladies' scorer of all time! And Jason is just thinking about puppies and kittens.
