This is a description of test events for ToKkyo2020, but this should apply to Beijing2022 as well.

JSF said they were currently considering how they could hold the competition, and also said they would announce the detail around September. It is not like they've already decided to sell tickets as usual, and I don't think their announcement today was anything well thought out since their office has been closed since July 27th due to the spread of the virus in Tokyo. Osaka was supposed to host NHK this year, but it is currently experiencing another surge in the number of cases. With our government still putting their priority in the economy, although being quite dumb in that regard as well, the situation in Osaka won't get better to hold an event having a large audience in the venue anytime soon. I think JSF is also aware of the situation since Mao has canceled her show that was supposed to take place in their national training center in Osaka in late September. Sad to say, but in these few months, we've already seen clusters of patients formed in in-door events, the infection spread by lifting the travel restrictions prematurely, and how responsible parties received severe (and sometimes nasty) criticism. I imagine planning this strange NHK Trophy is super tricky and not a fun job.

You have read what Canadian satellites explained about the border closure in the past few pages, haven't you? Also, when you enter Japan, you have to get tested and quarantine for 14days. But if you want to discuss protective measures against COVID-19 in general, we have a suitable thread in Space Junk.

Why don't they just cancel GPS and let everyone focus on domestic competitions? Here we are wondering if our situation will allow JSF to hold nationals at the end of this year, even behind closed doors, and if our skaters will be able to travel to compete there...

But aren't the videos on MEGA? I checked the links from PC and could open all five episodes, although it took a while to load some of them.

I would guess that she doesn't have a good sponsorship deal because she mentioned her plan on retirement after Beijing. I have the impression that large companies tend to make sponsorship deals with athletes that seem to have long competitive careers ahead. The only exception I can think of is Steiff Japan that made a last-minute sponsorship deal with Takahito Mura in December 2017. I don't remember the details, but I think I heard that they decided to support Mura after their CEO and Mura got to know each other through their hobby or something. Not sure how Russian skaters find their sponsors, though. Anyway, Alena hasn't said anything about this coaching change herself yet. She might have needed Rozanov's help to retrieve her 3A or have other reasons to leave Eteri or Sambo.

Meanwhile, the first local comp in this season is taking place in Fukuoka behind closed doors, limiting the participants to the skaters affiliated to Fukuoka fed and above novice level. In addition to taking temperatures and offering rubbing alcohol, the organizer mandated the skaters to wear face masks except during their performances and to stagger the time in entering and leaving the venue using two different entrances to separate the flow line. In the dressing room, each skater uses a long bench to stay at least two meters away from each other. Judges were judging from behind acrylic boards, wearing both face masks and face guards, but as the face guards fogged up and hinder them from judging what the skaters were doing on the ice, they stopped using them halfway through. The competition seems to be streamed by Jsports. Source: https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2020/08/01/kiji/20200801s00079000407000c.html

If I remember correctly, Shoma is still studying at Chukyo Univ., so he should be able to use their rink when it is open. He seems to be skating in other rinks in Nagoya as well. Yuzu, on the other hand, seems to have been in a good relationship with Ice Rink Sendai, so I guess he can train there if he wants to, although it must be hard to secure enough ice-time since it is the only rink that is open in summer in Miyagi.
