  1. I read the news late last night after getting 70-80 percent zombified by the heat and busyness, so I don't have much to add to everyone's comment, but I fully support his decision. As much as I miss him, I want him to stay safe. To take part in this modified GPS just for the sake of maintaining one's intuition for competing while the situation won't allow them to do their best doesn't feel worth risking lives. By this decision, I think he tried to protect not only his team and his fans, but also the host city, local communities the participants come back to, and the skating community in a way he can. Hope ISU and JSF take this seriously and do what is best in the long run... As to our survival, I don't worry too much. We have so many Yuzu contents to revisit, and hopefully, he will water us from time to time, from in front of the white wall, or something else...
  2. Stumbled across this video on Twitter... Is this Czech version of test skate or something?
  3. Let me add more information: The show will be held and aired live by TBS Channel 1 on September 12 (18:55-22:00, JST) and September 13 (13:55-17:30, JST) TBS (*their terrestrial channel) will also air it sometime around midnight on the 13th. https://www.onice.jp/info.html They will also provide a paid live stream on both days supported by PIA LIVE STREAM. Akiko Suzuki and Takahito Mura will appear as commentators on this stream. https://t.pia.jp/pia/ticketInformation.do?eventCd=2023786&rlsCd=001 Participants announced as of today are: Keiji Tanaka, Yuma Kagiyama, Kazuki Tomono, Shun Sato, Tsuyoshi-Lucas Honda, Ryoga Morimoto Wakaba Higuchi, Kaori Sakamoto, Tomoe Kawabata, Mana Kawabe, Hana Yoshida Misato Komatsubara/Tim Koleto, Utana Yoshida/Shingo Nishiyama Jingu Ice Messengers (Synchronized skating) https://www.onice.jp/info.html ETA: Fixed a typo. Thanks, @Paskud!
今季初戦は調整中だが、そこでお披露目される予定だ" which I would roughly translate as: "As to this pre-Olympic season Kihira says, "I have to gear myself up enough to be able to say, "I am ready to compete at Beijing anytime!" I am hoping to deliver both SP and FS cleanly from the very first competition. I am going to work hard to be able to land quads and 3A like nothing both in practice and the real thing" She is still training in Europe. As to her first competition in the season, it is still being coordinated, but her new programs will make their debut there (=in the first competition)"
  5. Thank you for the spreadsheet! Mikhail Kolyada's FP for this season will be The White Crow (choreo by Illa Averbukh) https://rsport.ria.ru/20200826/kolyada-1576333641.html Zhou, Vincent: Algorithm by Misha Ge is his FP. His SP will be Vincent (Starry Starry Night), choreo by Lori Nichol.
  6. Yuna Shiraiwa pondering on how far she has come after injury "One year has passed since the day I got injured (August 23rd, 2019) I will continue working hard without forgetting that I am here because of so many people supporting me. Sadly, the new coronavirus makes it difficult for me to come back to competition in front of you, but since there won't be many competitions, I am going to cherish and enjoy each one of them. Please be careful about the coronavirus!" Collection of Satoko's lunch photos. Looks delicious and healthy
  7. It depends on how he did his experiments... but the device may not be so expensive compared to some of the audio devices he already has... I tried to read the thesis too The part shown on TV looked like a discussion on the motion capture's abilities and limitations in capturing figure skating movements. Wish I could read the whole thing! By the way, he appeared in the 24TV in another way. This is a live-painted fan depicted Sendai's local festivals painted by Hikaru Saotome, who was born in Sendai as well, and the figure dancing in the center is Yuzu dancing Suzume Odori (sparrow dance) ETA: Found a snippet of the segment
  8. According to the pdf shared in this tweet, several years ago, a professor in the same department was researching remote coaching using motion capture in classical Japanese dancing and figure skating. Although the release date of the equipment Yuzu used in his research was much later, there is a possibility that Waseda has it for other research.
  9. The gist of the interview: They interviewed Yuzu on August 13th. As said in the promo clip, he has been wearing masks as much as possible and disinfecting things as much as possible. In figure skating, skaters cannot avoid touching their boots to take care of them before and after their practice, but the boots touch the floor that is supposed to be infected by the virus. He also has the routine to touch the skate guards with his forehead. He says that he thought he had to be extra careful about such things. While shows and competitions got canceled and he could not train, he focused on studying, and as you've already known, he finished writing his graduation thesis about how motion capture technology can contribute to figure skating, exploring the possibilities of using it to improve skaters' technique of jumping or using it in AI-supported judging. As to COVID and supporting health care professional, he thinks to try not to get and spread the virus is the best support for them, and he says that he is thinking that we can move forward to the future after recovery by avoiding actions that would possibly spread the infection. He says he is waiting for the day he can skate freely in front of everyone without the slightest anxieties and worries (both in his and spectators' minds I guess) and people can freely voice their reactions, freely laugh and cry.
  10. The video interview aired today ETA: @kiches beat me to it!
  11. Nekomasamune is quoting Yuzu's opening message. Looks like he was watching it too.
  12. Turandot in Japan is Shizuka Arakawa's Olympic winning program before being Shoma's program. Since when she won the first OGM for Japanese in figure skating, it hasn't been rare to hear Nessun Dorma in an FS-related segment/program on Japanese TV. I think Nessun Dorma is an easy one to use as a background track as well because it has a beautiful melody that is not overly dramatic and distracting.
  13. I can sleep for 11-12 hours or sleep in the daytime when I have time, but I would rather not wake up at noon at this time of the year. To wake up at noon in summer is to wake up to melt, to start everything in the heat and humidity that makes you want to give up everything I would rather wake up early and have a siesta on a Cool Sleep mattress pad or something...
  14. It's "Vincent (Starry Starry Night)" by whom I am not sure. Sounds like Josh Groban but I could not find the exact same version.
  15. Cross posting from Team Canada thread since Riku and Ryuichi are training there: Fundraiser by Meagan Duhamel : Skate Oakville Pairs Showcase https://www.gofundme.com/f/skate-oakville-pairs-showcase

  17. The guy in the gray jacket in these photos maybe? Not sure, though.
  18. I don't remember if this info has already been shared in past interviews or something, but according to Shingo, Utashin will keep both programs from the last season. As to his own programs, he says he will change one of them. http://wasedasports.com/feature/20200821_131539/
