  1. Yeah I prolly didn't see it on YouTube. It was possibly on youku where I saw it when I was watching a bunch of stuff on it but I dunno how to begin searching that site for a specific video Y.Y Thanks very much for trying, tho. I'm touched! ^_^
  2. Thanks but I don't mean this one. This is the medal ceremony. What I'm looking for is the flower ceremony. The one that happened on the ice. Basically this one but a more complete version (since this one has had Chan's and Ten's turns edited out).
  3. Hi there. Anyone know where I can view the flower ceremony for the men's event at Sochi in its entirety? I've seen it somewhere before but can't for the life of me remember where from. The only one I can find on YouTube now only has Hanyu's portion and I kinda want the one that features everything from start to finish (this is the one I've seen before). Can anybody help? @SparkleSalad Whoooooooooa. His 3As are gigantic usually but I don't think I've ever seen one that big from him before. That's absolutely *massive*. It looks even bigger than his quads. Doesn't even look humanly possible, if you asked me. He's in the air long enough for something way beyond just a triple. Guess he only needed to work on the speed of his rotations since back then. Perhaps the guy's perfected it already, even. But that is one awe-inspiring jump.
  4. Kenji no Heya w/Yuzuru Hanyu Episode 2, for those of you who want it. Feel free to quietly share but kindly do not upload onto streaming sites. Thanks very much! Past episode(s) Episode 1 With special thanks to @kiches and @yuzu.fairy for their willingness to help 11/26/17: Subs for all episodes have undegone minor revision and reuploaded 02/04/18: Reuploaded to another file hosting site cos Google said no 03/04/18: Reuploaded to yet another file hosting site
  5. So English subs for this program *do* exist? orz I mean I've seen translation scripts of a couple of the episodes but I wasn't aware that there are English subs as well since I've never come across any. Or did you just mean the first part? Though I've never seen English subs for it either...but I guess that does explain the general lack of interest, lol... Thanks for letting me know. And sorry for the redundancy. ^^;; Glad that you enjoyed it all the same. :o) I kinda enjoyed doing it, too.
  6. Hey there. Thanks very much for pointing out the mistake in my post. I'm actually quite aware of the slur and basically everything you've very patiently put into words. I didn't catch the faux pas for myself because in my head, the effect was supposed to be along the lines of "Japanglish". I see now that this may fall short on some and have edited my post accordingly. I have a bit more to say on the matter but will PM you with it instead as, educational reasons aside, and I know you mean well, I really don't think this is the right place to do this, especially since this was just an honest slip-up and not something done out of laziness and ignorance, which you seem to assume I have done. I hope this discussion ends here so as not to detract further from the original purpose of the thread.
  7. Kenji no Heya w/Hanyu episode 1 with eng subs is now available, to anyone who wants it.
  8. Alritey, I somehow managed to figure out an easy way to encode but the trade-off is that the quality isn’t exactly the best, though this could also be due largely in part to the raw I used not being of the highest quality there is. It’s decent enough for simple viewing but the quality dropped during the encoding process so…I’m pretty new to all these other more technical aspects of fansubbing so if the quality isn’t up to par, you have my apologies. Anyway, here it is. Kenji no Heya with Yuzuru Hanyu Episode 1. It’s on gdrive only for now as I figured there’s a good reason that a decent copy can’t be found on YouTube or DailyMotion to this day. Kenji no Heya with Yuzuru Hanyu Episode 1 + English subtitles With thanks to @Fay, who helped out with that bit of Japrussian Japanorussian as well as to @matchanodoame for providing me with information I needed. Feel free to discreetly share it, if you want to—though I would advise against uploading onto streaming sites. 11/26/17: Subs for all episodes have undegone minor revision and reuploaded 02/04/18: Reuploaded to another file hosting site cos Google threw a hissy fit and blocked the file(s) 03/04/18: Reuploaded to yet another file hosting site
  9. If the gods remain firmly by his side, victory is his. Because as far as complete skating goes, no one is closer to the mark than Hanyu. ISU knows this. That and, even while his BV isn't the highest, it's very, very, VERY high still, and if he manages to develop the momentum he wants, he can basically command his GOEs, and to a certain extent, his PCS. But he can't command the GOEs and PCS of others, especially if they skate clean, as well. While the overt lifting has so far still not been enough to overcome Hanyu's sheer skill even when he couldn't fully deliver his best, as was the case last season, no one can say for sure that the Olympic crazy won't eat so deeply into the brains of those calling the shots that they'll throw caution to the wind just to please those with money in their pockets. If this happens, the scandalized outrage after will likely be bigger than the Kim vs Sotnikova debacle due to a couple of reasons: 1) Hanyu has been a strong presence in the sport. And that's an understatement. He's even more of a giant in it now than Plushenko or Kim ever were (and these two were HUGE) in terms of pushing the sport forward, fanbase and results. In fact, this whole situation with all these strong contenders and their myriad quads wouldn't have emerged if it weren't for him. He may not have singlehandedly brought figure skating to this level, but he did at least 50% of the heavylifting. And that's a low estimate. FS fan or no, anyone with eyes--and they only need to casually track the past seasons--and aren't obstinately kidding themselves due to reasons unknown, will draw the same conclusion. We're talking about a leap from 3-4 quads total for the most ambitious skaters back in 2014 to an average of 7ish quads total among the top contenders in 2018. If anyone tracks back the last few seasons to the last Olympics, they'll find that the only common denominator that stands out high above the rest throughout this particular cycle is none other than Hanyu. And if we match him up against other remarkable figureheads in all the history of this sport, there has never been one even close to being like him ever. 2) No one in the men's field up to now, absolutely no one, is close to him in terms of overall skills. The nearest would be Chan and Fernandez and even they have been left far in the dust by Hanyu. This isn't an opinion, this is fact. The younger skaters, a couple of them show promise but unless they slow down and reevaluate their overall objectives as to why they skate, they probably won't ever achieve the same level of perfection as Hanyu. Funny how, though, that they are the ones with a better chance of beating a clean Hanyu than the ones who are actually closer to the guy in skills. Some things won't ever compute, I guess. And I'm not sure how close Sotnikova's overall skills were to Kim's but one thing I'm sure of is there's no way the gap was as wide as it is between Hanyu and everyone else. Not even close. Kim is one-of-a-kind, a remarkable talent, but she's not the force of nature Hanyu is. She is 50% artist, 50% athlete (some might argue it's more 60-40, and if these are fans, maybe they know better). Hanyu is 50% artist, 250% athlete. So it would almost be an inconsiderable stretch to put someone else, no matter how clean or how much higher their BV, above a pitch perfect Hanyu who's delivered a monster of a layout himself. Not unless, like I've said, this person somehow manages to develop the same kind of completeness, if not better, than what has taken Hanyu, even with his advantage of talent, physique, indomitable spirit, relentless drive and sharply honed mind, his whole life to gain, in a few short months. Think that's gonna happen? I don't think so either. So a stretch it is. But not a stretch that shady business can't make happen if the people behind it want it badly enough to compromise the integrity of the Games to the point of no return and effectively completely lose the essence behind the sport. If that happens, that'd be their problem, not Hanyu's. ISU would have had the most perfect representation of the sport they'll ever get for a long time to come, and if they want to squander the one chance that'll very likely bring in more long-term returns than the short-term ones shady dealings can only afford, well, it wouldn't be the first time something with so much potential gets flushed down the lavatory. Hanyu would have his ideal skate and thus at least won't have to beat himself up over having delivered something less than perfect. We fans will feel poorly for him for a while but I think we'll all be okay so long he has his dream skates, or as close to them as he possibly could get, that would go down in the annals of history and burn his name into the minds of the masses for good. Because those, my friends, are the true prizes. So my only real concern is if he'd be able to put out those best skates he's been hankering to do on that particular stage probably since, I dunno, the Stone Ages or something. ...though I must say that I'm also mildly apprehensive that these beautiful skates, if they happen and the outcome still isn't as it should be, may potentially be overshadowed by the ugliness of the ensuing shitstorm. So...let's just hope they're wise enough to give him the gold medal if he delivers and save everyone and themselves a shit ton of grief.
  10. And hopefully with perfect skates, too. *fingers crossed*
  11. Hi! I was told this hasn't been done yet and I sure hope that's true but I have Kenji no Heya w/Hanyu Ep 1 all translated, timed and typeset. Would anyone be interested in encoding it into hardsub? I'm hoping someone who is able to encode (unlike me) and has a non-watermarked, HD version (at least 720p, tho higher res would be better since hardsub conversion can mean a drop in quality) of the episode would be willing to do it (as well as send the encoded file back to me for final QC checks before release). If you're that someone, please beam me a PM so I can send you the .ass file. I timed it according to Sylvia Huang's version of the video that I managed to rip off of YouTube before she took everything down. Or, if you're willing to encode but don't have the HD video file, we could just use the one I have (only 720p, tho, and in MP4 format). I basically just need someone willing to do the encoding and uploading onto a server I can grab from xD. Here's a sneak peek: Hopefully at least one of you would be willing to do this. Y'know...for the greater good of the Planet? Note: I'd like to limit sharing of the .ass file to only the person who's confirmed willing and able to do the encoding. Yoroshiku! Please see below for update↓
  12. Yeah. He was talking about how the Russian crowd was shouting it at him after his individual SP performance in Sochi. He even went so far as to say, "That's Russian for "Subarashii!" or "Bravo!", btw." Is молодец pronounced anything like whatever it was that came out of his mouth? The romanized version of it seems to be "molodets" but I have no idea how that's pronounced. edit: I checked. I think this it! Огpомное спасибо, Fay! I'll leave you lovely Russian-speakers in peace now.
  13. Thank you for giving me the time of day! ^_^ He said it around the 14:28 mark of Kenji no Heya ep 1. Here it is.
  14. Здравствуйте! Please excuse my barging in here without being able to speak a lick of Russian but I figured this would be the best place to go to for some help on a Russian term. Hanyu said this word and I couldn't make it out exactly probably due to a combination of my complete illiteracy in the Russian language and his mangling the word a bit. He said something along the lines of "maragia" or "baragia" (tho it could be "badagia", "madagia", "balagia", "malagia", or none of these but these are what it sounds like to me) and it supposedly means "Bravo!". I've tried googling both the word together with various similar definitions but so far came away empty-handed. Would one of you be able to help me this? Would really, really appreciate it!
  15. Wasn't sure whether to start a new thread for this or to post it in the one that says Books, Magazines and Random Findings. But I decided to start a new one cos it's always nice to see things said about him or mentions of him by others, especially when they're positive, and finding it all in one dedicated place makes it easier. Feel free to join this thread with the other if you don't agree, though. Anyway, I found this very recent interview with Grant Hochstein that I haven't seen mentioned here yet. Here's the part where he mentions Hanyu: For those of you interested in reading the full interview, it's this one here: Q&A with Grant Hochstein at the beginning of his final season I do recommend reading all of it. He has some nice insights and the part where he gushes about the kitten he and his fiancee now keep is unbridled in its cuteness overload.
  16. Hmm...but isn't the complexity there because it's what's needed for him to weave all those jumps of his into the choreography? They contribute largely to the breezy and effortless effect of his jumps (when he nails them perfectly), no? I mean he wants them not just because they are challenging and he wants to prove he's the biggest man on ice (tho those are huge factors as well, I'm sure) but because they are what he needs for him to reach his ultimate goal of the ideal skate...right? Well, that'll largely depend on what they're skating for. If they are skating only for the sake of winning, then they'll probably prefer to take the shortest route there. And the shortest route Hanyu's path is not. If their ambition is beyond just winning and something far more sublime, then yes, they'll find Hanyu's path the more appealing. The older gen (those who are still around since Sochi) are likely skating for more than winning at this point of their careers, but their reasons aren't the same as Hanyu's. Most of the hotshots, so far, I'm only getting the superficial vibe of wanting to win and only to win. This was never the vibe I got from Hanyu when I saw his older videos when *he* was the hotshot breathing down Chan's neck and leaving purely artistic skaters like Brown and Rippon in the dust . There's always something beyond simply wanting to win in the way that he skates, despite his layouts that were formulated to give him the best chance to win. I don't get the same vibe from the young ones right now. If there's something else behind their skating, right now it's eclipsed by their hunger to simply. Beat. Hanyu. Maybe not all of them but definitely most of them. So whether or not the next gen will see the light and look up to Hanyu as a perfect example, will depend on whether or not he remains unbeaten by these hotshots. Because if he does, then he proves that his formula of becoming a complete skater is the ultimate rock solid winning formula. So it all comes down to not just how Hanyu performs this season, but how the die will roll in PC. There's also the fact that those who truly aim for his path and goals have first gotta be born with at least a fraction of the unbudging perfectionism and insatiable hunger to evolve as Hanyu was because Hanyu isn't the way he is simply because he wants to be. He's the way he is because there's no other way he *can* be. Still, I do agree with you that, win or lose, there's no doubt his path will shine a light upon others'. The legacy he's left even now is undeniable. But how doggedly future skaters will stick to their own ideals the way Hanyu stuck to his, will depend on how much stronger he can make it.
  17. Sooo it's like we have Hanyu as the locomotive chugging along pulling the sport along a forward motion and the judges as the wind resistance holding it back? Good thing Hanyu's a bullet train locomotive then, so he's not so much chugging along as simply cutting through any and all resistance. >_<
  18. I never quite got why he chose to do that. S'not like Chan can't jump a beautiful 4T himself... And not sure if this has been raised before and I've just missed it but this difficult and creative entry/exit thing..maybe it's time they consider rephrasing that rule? Because Hanyu's back counter entry into his 3A is probably really not all that difficult for him anymore. And he's done it so many times now that it's no longer creative. I mean if they're not going to award him the points for it based on that judgement, it won't be fair to award others for it as, if they were to try it, they'd look a lot more labored and thus it'd be a lot less pretty than the way Hanyu does it. Moreover, it won't be new either. Come to think of it, does anyone else do it but Hanyu? Cos I heard he's able to pull off nice entries and exits for his 3A more effortlessly cos of the particular way he jumps his Axel, which seemingly no one else in the field--nay, sport seems to be doing but him? I know others are doing the SE but what of the BC? Anyway, the only reason it's even easy for him to pull off this particular stunt now is due to the sheer amount of effort he's put into honing it when he was younger so if they're awarding others points for effort, it wouldn't be fair to not give him the marks today for all the time and sweat he's invested into it before, which clearly, others haven't. So maybe they revise difficult into say, impressive and give points according to how effortless it looks, or just simply list out the existing techniques according to difficulty level and how effortlessly they are executed and only award separate points for creativity for entries/exits that are actually completely original? I dunno...the way it is now may have worked before but it just seems iffy now that Hanyu has set the bar so high. ...aaaand I apparently have no idea how to keep my posts short. Sorry 'bout that. Heh.
  19. Hi! Thanks for the reply. I've seen all five videos on youku before the three were uploaded on YouTube. I tried ripping the last two eps from youku, despite the chinese subs and low quality but couldn't. I'm actually looking for videos I can download or rip that's of a decent quality and preferably without subs (so even if I were to be able to rip them off youku, I won't actually be able to use them. >_<). If anyone can help, it'd be really great...
  20. Nah, knowing Hanyu, he’d up his game a bit from last season, if not a lot, and if (big if, but I'm optimistic) Hanyu manages to build a good momentum and then skate his lights out with his layout on the Oly stage, he’s untouchable, even if everyone else in the field does the same, monster BV or no monster BV. This *is* the guy who scored over 330 total with (only) five quads across two programs, and none higher up on the BV totem than the 4S, when he managed to build good momentum, with no sane person questioning whether or not he deserved them. And no one, despite their higher BVs and better momentum, was able to come as close to those scores as Hanyu himself last season. So even though all of those are in the past now and may not have as huge a bearing on what happens in future seasons as we’d like, the pattern has been established and I’m confident that if Hanyu doesn’t easily give them a reason to mark him down, which means he steadfastly remains out of their whimsy, he’ll stay on top no matter how much the others get lifted. The judges may be biased but they’re not so irrational as to be clinically insane. Sure, the Ollies is a different beast and a breeding ground for dirty politics that, if the powers behind it want to get really dirty, not even someone like Hanyu would be impervious to falling victim to unsavory machinations. But unless one of the other competitors somehow manages to miraculously, in one short year, do better than what had taken even someone of Hanyu’s physique and caliber decades of hard work, stubbornness and grit to achieve in becoming a complete skater, if Hanyu loses the gold despite skating his best in all his career, then everyone watching would be able to clearly see, without doubt or gray area, that the Games is now compromised to a point where it’s beyond redemption and watching future Games would be a complete waste of time. It’d be worse than what happened at Sochi 2014, I imagine, especially since, unlike Kim, Hanyu, had maintained a constant strong presence throughout the entire cycle and making history as much as propelling the sport forward just about every season. If they want to go down that route still, that’s entirely up to them, but the one who has more to lose out of that debacle won’t be Hanyu, it’d be the ones who let it happen. So long as he has his ideal skate, gold medal or no, he’ll have no overt lingering regret. Which I imagine was the place Kim was in back when they decided to not give her the gold. There's no home ground advantage for any of the top contenders in any of the fields this time, but if it happens to him still, he’d not have his second gold, but he’d have his ideal skate, something that he didn’t have back when he actually did win gold. In other words, if I had to choose only between Hanyu skating his ideal skate and not getting the gold and him getting the gold but not his ideal skate (where his FS isn't clean), I’d rather it be the former…cos the latter’s already happened. Still, may everything fall into place for the guy, and if it does, may the Olympian Gods remain on his side.
  21. World gold. Then Oly gold. Then World gold again to complete my all-gold sandwich. Don't need no Oly silver/bronze to ruin the perfect synchronicity of it for me.
  22. Whoa. That is an extremely good shot. Even for someone who has got only good shots.
  23. Hi there. Would anyone happen to have any idea where I can grab HQ downloads of episode 4 and 5 of Kenji no Heya featuring YH? Preferably raw (i.e. without subs)? Sylvia Huang had three episodes up on YT at one point that I managed to grab the 720p versions of (didn't want to grab the most HD versions cos I didn't want them to take up too much space on my hard drive...and 720p is usually more than enough to keep me satisfied) but then she's taken them down since and I'm not sure if she's ever gonna put them back up along with the last two episodes. I tried asking her about it but haven’t gotten a response. Any help I can get on the matter would be lovely. 人´ω`)
  24. @Lyyli Sorry my written communication style gave you trouble. It's kinda messy, I'm aware. @kaerb basically put what I wanted to say in a perfectly legible, concise style. Wish I had that sort of talent...... I believe that Hanyu wants that ideal performance for himself first and foremost. You don't do the things he does and succeed at them as beautifully and as consistently as he does--that's like, what, an earth-shattering performance at least once per season since the 2011-2012 one?--if you are not essentially doing it for yourself. And what makes his successes all the sweeter is that it's usually a long treacherous road that leads up to each and every one of them, one where his fans get to travel with him, as opposed to only getting to see the polished-up finished product from season start to season finish. As much as us fans would appreciate clean skates, I think what we truly appreciate, at the end of the day, is the incredible journey he takes us through. This is what makes him so special, and sets him apart from other skaters--maybe other athletes, even. This part is going to sound a bit cringey, even to me, but together with him, fans have experienced things from the lowest of the lows where our hearts break with him and for him, to the nailbiting suspense that lead to the figurative heart attacks and alcohol binging that we hear so many talk about, to the most epic of highs where our exhilaration soars as high as when we experience something good for ourselves. Whatever he feels, the audience feels as well. Of course, we don't feel it in the same degree as he does but it's enough. Hard to imagine what it's like for him, then, when it's already too much for us most of the time, lol. So despite all the talks about him being an alien or being from another dimension, he is an athlete a lot of people actually find highly relatable, possibly even moreso than most other athletes, or at least skaters, which I feel is the real reason why he is so loved by so many. It certainly explains why his fanbase is as dedicated as it is, and the size that it is. It's not one the likes of any figure skater has ever had, I don't think. His fans don't just admire and respect him, they are invested heart and soul in him. Yes, he always seems immensely grateful to his fans for having his back, but the reason behind all the support that he gets the first place? He has no one but himself to thank for that, simply by being who he is. Had figure skating itself been a more major sport, I shudder to think what his fanbase would be like then. I didn't mean that wanting success for individual ambition is a bad thing. It is, in fact, a very good thing and is actually the main motivation behind athletes wanting to strive for glory. Wanting to do your country and the people you love proud is an individual ambition in and of itself. But focusing on that works better than focusing on the OGM, I feel, because at the end of the day, as a goal, it is bigger and more all-encompassing, as it has the notion that you're not doing it only for yourself. The gold medal is but a symbol of all that and on its own, it doesn't encompass quite as much. Coupled with its tangibility, it serves as more of a distraction than a strong motivator. But that's just what I feel. You know what, though? We seem to be trying to make our own points here but I think we're actually on the same page about this. As for Medvedeva, I don't know much about her but I don't want to believe that what she does is easy, even for her. After all, if it were so easy, she wouldn't be the only one doing it. And I mean across all the fields (i.e.: tech content level that's on the higher end of the spectrum with a rock solid no-mistake consistency from season start to finish--in all the fields, she's the only competitor who's managed it, and for two consecutive seasons now). She's undeniably immensely talented, perhaps more than what the other ladies are showing at the moment. In being so, she makes what she does look easy, which, in turn, makes it easy to undermine what she does. But really, I don't think she's a robot. While it's great she seems to be able to have so much fun, I don't think it's all fun and games and lightheartedness, like how she seems to be presenting it. The extreme focus on her face at the start of her performances...that's not the face of someone who is purely doing it for fun and games. She may not exactly be pushing the envelope like what the top contenders in the men's field are doing, but she very likely has her own kind of unique drive. That's the only thing that explains how she's able to do what she does. @Neenah I wouldn't be too upset or worried about naysayers and downplayers. Hanyu's proven time and again to be a deviant who thrives on those (which, imo, makes him one of the highest order--but in a good way). Anything and everything that usually downtrods an athlete (pressure, tough competition, nerves, haters, naysayers, etc.), seems to fuel him instead. The mistakes he makes strengthen all the doubts against him which adds to the difficulty--thus maximizing the high he and his fans feel when he overturns everything in one perfectly executed fell swoop. So I have zero doubt that he very likely gets a very intense kick out of proving all his dissenters wrong. The louder and more doubtful the dissent, the stronger his drive. I truly think that, deep down inside, he finds it all fun. Like his inner Yuzuru is probably all, "Orly? Well, me and mah homies (re: his team and his fans) think y'all wrong and Imma prove it to ya just to see that gobsmacked look on your faces again. But really, I've seen it so many times now it's kinda getting old...so this time Imma put something even more interesting there. You think all that I did before was something? Well, they're nothing. The best is yet to come, y'all. Stay tuned for that cos Imma show ya. Aite, time t'get t'work!" *rubs hands together gleefully but quickly stops to push back the horns he unintentionally revealed for a split second there* Lol. Please don't mind my imagination. Anywho, what I'm trying to say is, he's been doing this for so many years now that he's got it down to a fine art. Heck, it's probably even grown to become an addiction at this point. When he r****s, I imagine this would probably be one of the aspects of competitive skating he'll miss the most. From what I can tell, he seems the type. So let's not worry about all those things and instead sit back and enjoy the show. Win or lose, he's sure to put up a hell of one. ^__^
