  1. That looks...not so bad? The frame rate on the second gif is low but it looks like less than 180 degrees PR.
  2. Someone's seriously jealous yet they failed he still looks beautiful just not as beautiful as he usually looks
  3. I haven't figured out, is this real or photoshop?
  4. Hi all, I've moved the posts about Nobu and his blog post to a new topic so it can get its own dedicated thread:
  5. I forgot to play, but this is cool -- are you gonna do one for SC?
  6. The event is this weekend? Yikes, can't see them being able to sell this many tickets in time lol. People have to make travel plans and fly in. But maybe they will sell it to locals or people who are already there. But Skate America would have to compete with all the hundreds of other attractions there that weekend (and every weekend). It's interesting to note that there used to be many skating shows (like IceCapades) that would have year-round performances in LV, but the money for that has since dried up.
  7. I was watching this video and realized I have actually not heard the BBC commentary before. It warms my heart to hear them call his win just from this performance despite the mistakes. I do occasionally wonder if they would have given it to Javi or Shoma if they had clean skates. But my consensus with myself is no
  8. Ok, but when you do a survey like this and forget yuna kim...
  9. Is rabb.it still alive? It seems to have been acquired by something called Kast
  10. Lol, interesting bc i've never heard of it, i've only seen it from Japanese twitter
  11. I don't think Dai and Kana need to beat the top ice dance teams to aim for a team medal (what are Canada's chances, you think?) They just have to not be in the running for last place...
  12. Kamila Valieva is really a beautiful skater, and her 4T is not bad. I am really curious to see how she will score against Alysa if both are clean (well, I mean no falls/pops).
  13. Oh, that sucks. BTW I found Kevin's SP on bilibili if anyone is interested
  14. I usually clap politely bc that's what Yuzu would want IMO, but there's only so much cheering you can do so most of the time I save it for only one skater LOL
  15. Internal JSF politics must be a heck of a mess given only what is publicly known. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a ton of bullying behind the scenes that we haven't heard, especially knowing Japanese people are unlikely to complain openly about these things. Maybe that's one reason Yuzu moved to Canada and doesn't seem particularly inclined to return, until he retires and is free from their grasp at least.
  16. JSF and ISU are competing with each other to be the most corrupt, antithesis to sport organizations possible. Where there's smoke, there's fire...and this season is starting off already as a dumpster fire...
  17. This is devastating. It must have been really bad for him to speak out like that, openly and directly, AND to have to take months off for health reasons due to harassment. It's not on anyone to be mentally "strong" enough to tolerate harassment, it's on the university/rink to not condone harassment and bullying! -- Slight digression, but what is this? Were old tweets from Oda being brought up again recently?
  18. Well ISU only cares about their bottom line, so they're not really the barometer of integrity/respect that I would use. But yeah, like I said, it is what it is, because like it or not, skaters (and sports in general) exist because they are entertainment for spectators. No one is saying that we should ban fan enthusiasm here.
  19. In all honestly I don't think there's any way to stop common crowd behavior, and no sort of PSA especially from fans would really help to a noticeable degree. So yeah, most probably figure skating (and figure skaters) just need to adapt to it. It is what it is. But I think that doesn't mean we shouldn't talk hypothetically about what's most respectful to Yuzu et. al, though. Because yeah, I get it, I love screaming too, especially if everyone else is doing it. So if someone wants to scream all 6 minutes of the 6 minute warmup, well I kind of relate in a way because that's probably how I'm feeling inside as well But that doesn't mean it won't be possibly a little annoying to someone out there, maybe even Yuzu lol.
  20. Loops and salchow require around a 180 degree prerotation. Anyway, I think it's pretty clear the ISU considers prerotation as different than a forward takeoff. For example, many skaters' toe loops have 180 degrees of PR -- it's more common than not -- but they are distinctively not toe axels, which is what the handbook means when they say "the toe loop is the most commonly cheated on take-off jump." I don't know when prerotation becomes a forward takeoff and how they're different, but it might have to do with how a skater's weight shifts. In a 180 degree PR'd toe loop, the skaters' weight leaves the ice gradually as they prerotate, eventually lifting off at 180 degrees. In a toe axel, the skater literally steps forward with their weight completely on the ice while facing forward and jumps an axel. This is not to say that I think PR is okay, but just that the ISU doesn't seem to care about prerotation very much -- yet.
