I don't disagree it's really rude and xenophobic and doesn't leave you with a very high opinion of her attitude. But she's of an older generation and probably set in her ways, with a side of regional disdain, so this is probably the way she thinks. According to a comment on twitter, she already thought Yuzu [a bit] arrogant at GPF 2014 [for having an un-japanese way of celebrating and being too emotional] due to jumping on the podium and inciting cheers for Javi, and this was before Shoma even really became competition for Yuzu. Of course, the timing of her comment in Ice Jewels is very suspect and is obviously targeting Yuzu. This isn't like the Akiko issue where people were of different minds regarding whether what she said was true shade or not. Yamada's shade is of the highest degree. Edit for clarity.
-
Maybe she's just very set in her own ways of what Japanese skaters should do or train. But there's no other way to read this but as a targeting of Yuzu in particular.
-
Would be very nice but I think some of these scores might be unrealistic to expect, at least at the beginning. Also, why is the 3A the only non +3 GOE jump!? I'd think the 4Lo might be lower in scoring than the 3A!
-
I actually have no issues whatsoever with her skaters using western music. Figure skating is, after all, a primarily western sport, despite one of its biggest live audiences being Asian. I just find amusing how the shade throwing, regardless of whether she means someone specific or not, lacks logical sense, especially in light of Shoma actually being in the USA right now for a week to train with a foreign coach.

Hey, I've seen TV commercials where people carry the most unlikely products in their bags to use them at just the right moment in the commercial to convince their friends of its wonders. Doesn't make Zuzu posing with his extra bluetooth toothbrush any less hilarious, though.
-
I guess western influence is only bad if you train abroad but it's totally okay to use it as long as you train in Japanese soil?
-
What products has Yuzu promoted for P&G so far? Anyone has a list?

Conspiracy!

A little OT, I guess. I'm analyzing some GOE averages for all top men as promised, which I'll probably post in the overall skating talk thread when done, but I need to vent how HARD this is because layouts change so damn much depending on pops, falls, and the goddamn time of the day. Nathan Chen didn't have a single layout that was the same and even changed the order of his spins from competition to competition. And every time I see a pop from Yuzuru I cry. He had A LOT of them. Please save me from the statistics of Figure Skating

Me either.

Did they change the multiplier on the 'easier' triples in order to encourage quads, then? Alongside increasing quads BV?
-
Yeah. It's harder to make up the lost ground on large point differentials on a SP when you fail at it, especially with all the BV upgrades occurring every year in the FS. So it's brutal and he was reminded of it even more at WTT. I kind of agree, but Yuzu has done this before with RJ1 and RJ2, and with his Swan programs, so he seems to have a certain attachment to maintaining a thematic thorough-line on occasion. I think Seimei 2.0 would be a lot better received if he did it without also repeating Chopin, though, because then it might be seen in some circles as trying to attain a previous 'lost glory', regardless of the fact he broke a WR again last season with a different program.
-
The only way I could see a recycling of Seimei working is if it was technically a completely different program (music and choreography), so that it fit a theme of sorts, but even then he's done the Japanese warlock thing and his FS is where I expect him NOT to recycle and to show new music, so I'm hoping for something completely different.
-
I'm confused about that 3Lz-2T score. Was it weighed at 1 like the 3A back then, for a +2 GOE to mean +2 on the scoring?
-
I think much everyone here (not so sure in other fan contexts) would prefer two completely new programs to the recycling of Chopin for the third time, either because it's what we hoped for artistically from Yuzu, and/or because we're worrywarts about the reception by the judges of a repeat (well, with some changes) version of a WR program. And all of us here would probably NOT want him to recycle TWO programs, so let's have a prayer circle now.
-
I love this version too, but I think I prefer the Day 3 one BECAUSE of the way he snaps his arms down. Either way, I think in all three versions, he timed the jump well enough (maybe not day 2 as much, especially because I don't think the combo was as technically well landed as the other two versions). Edit: OMG, we're now debating the preferences over the milisecond differences in timing in different versions of the combo. What are we doing?
-
Wait, I thought the version with the arm movement (the clean one) already had the 4T3T perfectly synched with the piano rhythm? That's why the arm movement worked so well for me. Actually, I think both versions were both perfectly well timed, just the broadcast one he seemed to come out of the jump more of in a hurry.

Coomes/Buckland SP "Rhumba D'amour" (Choreo by Christopher Dean) -
Except the first spin. He really needs to work on when to go into that, because right now I think he enters it either too soon or too late.
-
Or probably because he jumped it later he didn't get to do the arm movement that he did in the clean version. I actually really love all the arm movements to the notes he does in Chopin, both in the old and new versions. His spin arm movements are always on point as well, even in the first spin that I'm still not sold on the timing for. But that movement after the 3T in the clean version is just so powerful it's probably going to become my favorite thing (well, the whole 4T3T will).

He looks so beautiful! I'm starting to rethink my preference for Chopin as my favorite competitive costume/look because H&L has given us such lovely pictures.

Mods: I'd like to request that at least one of the themes created from one of the new banners feature the smaller (100x100) avatar display, if possible?

I honestly am super amused by all the wincing at the warhorses because I haven't been following FS for long so it's not all so tired and 'again?' for me. But I did get to see a glimpse of this last season because I caught an awful amount of Romeo + Juliet programs, primarily in the junior circuit.
