Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements
OmNom replied to CupidsBow's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
True! Look at N.Chen when his jumps aren't there. It's a shame that he has sacrificed so much from the artistic part of his programs. He is a talented skater IMO. He can do so much more artistically speaking, but so many hard jupms took their toll. That was such a revealing moment! When the jumps aren't there his FS loses a lot of impact and umpf, it almost becomes sad to watch. Dramatic music could prove to be a double edged sword when it drowns the skater out and none of its musical accents is hit. Even if you're trying to get back into it the damage is already done. -

I love his SP music, so even though it's deemed the 'weaker' among his programmes this season according to most critics, I'm still willing to watch him skate over it. The LP I could only stand the first half before the music is interrupted  -
Lol literally sameee I never had the courage to watch it, not now, not ever. That gifset is enough to last in my memories my whole life

Have to agree with you on this - dance and pairs will hold the singles back- it really doesn't seem worth the risk/distraction for the singles. I would love Satoko to come back strong- I see what everyone says about her jumps but I just love her style and her determination- as long as she's properly recovered. Well if somehow Yuzu would need a breather to let all his struggles out, I'd be okay with the team event as an acceptable place for them to show up  Like 4CC before Worlds this season  And then he could come on charging at full force in the Singles'

Totally agree that Shoma doesn't seem to possess that little something special to become a global star just yet. Figure skating fans will come to like him bc of his cute looks and dorky personality, but I dare say he won't have the same pull Yuzu has to attract casual viewers into becoming a figure skating fan. His meek demeanour is cute but he doesn't have charisma off ice. Which is what Dai had to become so popular and beloved. So idk, he might prove me wrong, but atm I stand my ground

My immediate thought when I saw this costume for the first time: SPIDERMAN! turne out it wasn't  But later when I saw SpideyBoyang's costume this little Yuzu kept popping up in my mind... Lol it DOES look like something Spiderman would wear  I wonder what the programme could be, to be the inspiration for such a costume

Finally some words of sanity during this trying time Even if you don't like Yuzu's style, you cannot deny his skills and talent that have been sharpened intensely through hard work. He IS the best ever Sendai should become the new skating centre. I mean their results speak for themselves, there's no need for petty lobbying against other areas (unlike some)

OMG I'm not emotionally stable enough for any B*st*n talk just yet My heart is breaking just trying to imagine what he must have gone through, physically and mentally, at the time I wasn't anywhere near around the scene, and even I feel like a part of me dies every time I think about it I hope we'll never have to go through it again, EVER

Oh Marin WILL get lauded into all sorts of push from the federation, that's for sure. Whether she can deliver under pressure is another thing. I actually do think she has the most complete package, she only needs to work on consistency and judges will pour raining points towards her way. Like Kaetlyn Osmond's case. You can't admit she does a have a little spark, even if dimmer than Mao's, more recognisable than many other Japanese ladies competing at the moment.

Chopin all day every day baby The rest is hard for me to narrow it all down to ONE, lol, but I ultimately went with H&L  It's just very special to me and will always be held dear in my heart

so big Woah those are HUGE I love how the whole town acts like a big advertising agent for him

It's true he doesn't have a lot to lose, but I honestly think it's just not his personality to go big or go home :silent: His skating style is very traditional, and he has harped on and on again about how much he value his artistry above all else. I don't see him suddenly go the youngsters' route and be all quad-crazy. He has already left his marks in history, and he genuinely seems to enjoy staking now. It's hard to imagine he would exchange all those ideals he's so vocal about for a quick medal grab. Though I might just be too naive here.. :silent:

How's the state of Korean pairs/dancers? I'm admittedly not very well versed in this field :silent: (and sorry for being "off-topic")

OMG what IS this sorcery??  Urgh he's doing things to me that are out of my control *dead*

So you guys can all land quads? Well no, but it'd be great if we could be taught how to to it by the Master himself
-
Nah, I doubt he would whip out his 4F, that is, if he actually has it in his arsenal. Even if he did, I can't imagine it being very stable right away, and we all know what inconsistency does do a skater in this era of "don't fall and you get the GOEs" I don't think our good-old pal Pat is the type that likes to take risk, especially not during the big O

Omg Yes Anastasia is actually my fav Russian lady  She's far too exquisite to watch to be held down by measly jumps  Her arms..!

I love the first half a lot. As soon as the 'singing' comes up I zone out, but the melody of the music prior to it is undeniably unique and interesting. I can never enjoy the skating too much if it's not over a solid tune  -
After all this, I'm just clueless about Karen Chen's success predictability next season lol. She's pleasant and has lovely spirals that are arguably the best among the field today, so I'd like to see more of her. If Gracie doesn't shape up quick enough (and I doubt she could), then Karen definitely can make the team, that is if she doesn't unravel at the wrong time.

If Japan doesn't do sth about their weakness, I could see China seriously threatening them as a team in the future. The vast difference in terms of skills between singles and pairs/dancers will hurt them severely if not properly addressed. There's more balance overall in team China which I think would be beneficial to up their ranking

I've grown to like Shoma's FS this season and the costume so flawless for his body type. If he goes back to the seaweed green.. Can't say I'm too thrilled to see that! -
Gosh his programmes are so un-ironically Russian :silent: I think he has a lot of lovely qualities, and mind you totally committed to selling his programmes, but it's time he does something different or else it'd be hard for him to be taken seriously by judges and the likes. I definitely prefer his charm to Kovtun
