They'll decide last minute who they send to Worlds. Probably there will be changes.
-
They probably made a mistake there. They only have two spots in ice dance.
-
6 was just my guess, because usually there are 3 + 3 alternates.
-
Yes. They said they didn't have time to decide, so they submitted the same list 1. Konstantinova 2. Zagitova 3. Samodurova, substitutes Tuktamysheva and Medvedeva
-
-
It's unusual but it is not against any rule so ISU wouldn't reject a list like that. Only the names and date birth of competitors must be included.
-
The way they expressed it is a bit vague, as 'extended application' would mean that they name six skaters without saying who are the main competitors and who're the subtitutes and they'll decide about it right before the competition. https://www.sport-express.ru/figure-skating/news/ffkkr-o-sostave-sbornoy-rossii-zayavka-na-chm-mozhet-byt-otpravlena-v-rasshirennom-vide-a-dalshe-vozmozhno-chto-ugodno-1516415/ We'll find out soon I guess...the deadline is over.

He needed to compete here because of his university entrance portfolio. There are only limited places for elite athletes at universities and he needs to compete with good results at Korean competitions to get a chance. Considering all his boot problems and injuries, the timing for this competition is very unfortunate.

Russia has three spots in Pairs - Zabiiako and Enbert are going if they're ready to compete, I haven't heard about them since December though

It's not available yet, it'll be published shortly before the competition.

I don't think anyone questions that Alina's spot is rightful if we consider the results of the whole season. But RusFed has different selection criterias and there's some logic in it when the field is so deep as it is in Russia now. When I said that you can't compare the ladies and men, I meant that there are far more ladies who are consistent or are getting consistent again and who could go to Worlds and compete there with relatively good results than men skaters who - with the exception of Samarin - have been inconsistent throughout the season and have many issues mental or injuries, I don't know. Whether it's Kolyada, Kovtun, Lazukin, Aliev or others. I will be okay with any decision probably because I have no favourites in this field. The only skater I didn't really want to see at Worlds was Konstantinova but she is out of question now.
-
You can't compare the current situation of the men and ladies in any way. But I think Lazukin may have had a chance for a spot with two brilliant skates at the Final, in case Kovtun's or Kolyada's form would be worse than it was at Europeans. Too many ifs...
-
Lazukin is not more consistent than them. Honestly I can't see any argument for Lazukin's Worlds spot: Kovtun and Kolyada both won international competitions this season, they finished on the podium at Nationals and have higher scoring potential than Lazukin.
-
This picture is great!
-
Lazukin bombed his free skate in the Final and was only 6th in that segment. He's so inconsistent. It'll probably be Kovtun, Samarin and Kolyada then?
-
I think we can continue the discussion in this topic from now on. There'll be a lot to talk about the next coming days too... In the past ten years there weren't talented newly crowned European champions, two former world champions and one olympic champion competing against each other with improving or deteriorating forms during one season. I think you can't really compare the current situation to other seasons, this year is really unusual in many ways. Years ago it was obvious who would be sent to Worlds, the field wasn't that deep (not until ca 2012 at least). ETA: The situation in 2015/16 was a bit different - Pogorilaya beat Sotnikova at the beginning of the season at an international competition. Then that’s true that she had a rough GP season, while Sotnikova medaled once , at GP Russia – but Adelina’s didn’t have a very good skate either (her TES was in the low 50s...) Then at Nationals it was obvious that Pogo was getting back into form while Adelina placed 6th with weaker programs in both SP and FS. At Europeans Pogo's programs scored higher than Sotnikova’s scores from GP. So it wasn't really a question who'll get the spot at Worlds even though the team was announced really late that season too, in the beginning March.
