the news about Alena Kanysheva were so unexpected my first reaction was just disbelief...

so apparently it was an "old" injury that got esacerbated and got to a breaking point? (and does it mean that at gpf18 she was competing injured and kept competing injured for months?). mmm it's nice that she sounds positive and thanked all her coaches, but a couple things in that post sound...dubious tbh.

Well, injury can happen any time, on any element (and even off ice), but for Alena, in spring and till test skates it looked like everything was just fine... training a full layout of triples, training the quad, even talking about chances of putting that into a layout for comps (which means quad training wasn't done just once in a blue moon)... and then wd after wd... few news... and now this  :tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid:

Well, at least her injury isn't as bad to prevent her from competing and skating altogether.... that's the positive in this, I suppose, to be somewhat reassured that her healthy isn't completely ruined at fourteen (tho fs at competitive level is a very punishing sport for the body even when one can avoid big injuries).

At least we might get to enjoy her ss again (tho the 3Lz will be missed :/)

The announcement about Ted commentating JrRusNats would have made me at least moderately pleased any other day but today my feelings range frkm numbness to annoyance, because Ted is the voice of JGP and Alena was supposed to be one of the stars of this junior season... and instead here we are...

(but then, all of this made me remember that Nastya Tarakanova wasn't skating at SrNats, so I hope she's recovering :smiley-angelic001: )

It seems she wanted to emphasize that she got injured while she still trained with Panova and not after she moved to Eteri. It can happen that it was an old injury that got to a breaking point much later, after she moved to Eteri. She did really well at JGPF 2018 when she won bronze with new personal best scores.

I read her interviews she did around the test skates in August, and there were some controversial things - first she said she didn't plan to jump 4T at all in the 2019/20 season, because she could get high scores if she does quality triples just like Kostornaia does. And a few days later which was after the test skate she said the opposite, that she was planning to do 4T in the free skate. Days after that she got deleted from the JGP France entry list and we know the rest.

It sounds to me she was training the quad last summer but she couldn't decide whether she wanted to go for it at competitions or not.

She was one of the best junior skaters, I am sorry we won't be seeing her in singles anymore. I hope things will turn out well for her in ice dance. She is already in Samokhin's group:

And in other news, Tarakanova and Vasilieva will miss Juniors Nationals:

Nastya :( I hope that doesn't mean she quits skating completely (again)... the chances of her getting senior GP next year were slim, but now practically non existent, and juniors will be crowded with probably at least Samodelkina, Berestovskaya and Petrosyan debuting next year at JGP...

I think Berestovskaya isn't age eligible for JGP next season? But Muravieva is.
