It's that time of the year - coaching changes 2019/2020

American fans are talking about Raf but I can't help feeling that's like the everyonegotoBrian rumours after the Olympics - he has Nathan and now Stephen looking (if rather prematurely for the latter but that's what they said about Yuzu) to 2022, it'd be rather optimistic to think it would work the way Yuzu and Javi did, and even that proved hard in the run up.

What surprises me is that he's announced the departure without apparently having the new coach locked in (of course he could and just isn't saying... yet)

I think he has a coach in mind, he hasn’t just announced it. Such decisions are rarely made without some preliminary arrangements.

And this seemed like a peaceful and quiet and honestly boring off-season, compared to the last one. Thank you, Mr. Uno, for adding a pinch of intrigue into it.

Well, if Nathan isn't training with Raf at the rink most of the time, then I guess there's room for another top man... I think it's time for popcorn.

They didn't take anybody high profile in after Adam retired, too, so there is that.

If not Raf, who could be a possible choice in the US for him?? Because I do think he’s going to the US...

Shoma has already been doing jump camp things in the States, and not with Raf. Maybe he's just going there for good?

Maybe? I mean I'm just speculating, but if that's where he's been learning new jumps/technique anyway, maybe that is where he'd go. BESP commentary will become really insufferable if he does though.

I think that would cause enough drama to last us the whole off-season :xD:

Time just to ignore them then. :)

It will be a tough season for him wherever he goes, if part of the thinking is to fix his jumps.  Maybe he’s been doing a Jason Brown style look around on the quiet - it’s going to be interesting to see which choreographers he ends up working with and what someone new can do for him.

According to NHK, Shoma will train in several locations overseas to test out the atmosphere/environment before deciding on the final location.  On his own website, Shoma expresses deep gratitude for all the support he has received from his coaches and others, and will never forget that they were the ones who pushed him forward and are now sending him on this new beginning.

His careful selection of words reveals a strong resolve and new level of maturity.
