Cerunias
What a fantastic statement, despite the vile comments she had been subjected to. The Google translation of some of that statement is interesting (bearing in mind potential inaccuracies, so any Russian speakers take on these would be great): "I hope that the time will pass and everyone will understand that this was the only possible option for both of us" Only possible option? Sounds like there's a story and a bit there of something going on for longer... "First of all, I want to thank Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze and the entire coaching staff for a long, fruitful, sometimes very difficult work." Difficult work? That could just be Google translate, and later she did say that she was driven when needed, but perhaps there were other difficulties? "From her I got many life lessons. I will remember them all my life." Not least of all that sometimes, someone you trusted and someone you have worked under/for/with can end up treating you like crap. I wonder if the double entendre was intended? "Also, I wish all the children from the Eteri Georgievna group, the greatest health, patience, diligence and sports longevity." Interesting she mentions longevity, given Mr Orser's comment that Eteri made mention of recently (and selectively [mis]interpreted as Mr Orser insulting her). And I wonder why she would wish the other kids patience? The statement reads extremely diplomatically, but with so many possible alternative interpretations. I acknowledge that part of it may be the way Google translated it, but there's an element of passive-aggressiveness in this statement in my opinion. Lilona
ZHENYA'S STATEMENT: First of all, I want to thank Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze and all coaches for long, fruitful and sometimes very hard work. For great patience, which they gave to me and unbelievable coach and professional endurance. These ppl gave me life in FS and lead to high results which I can rightfully be proud. Leading to the topic of latest days, I want to clear situation. I will represent Russian Federation, be with school Sambo-70, but will be coaching by Canadian specialist Brian Orser. I do this to use new opportunities and different methods of the training process and continue to represent Russian on a high level. I wish to Eteri group all the best and say thank you for 11 years of my life. SO0 than she thanks Eteri and wishes all the best for her and other members of group. THIS GIRL IS AWESOME!!!! Xen
I smile at the training methods bit, and the wish for longevity, and that she will continue to rep Russia. *clap clap* Well done, well done. Eteri has nothing left to throw. This isn't the statement of someone who is a lazy, ungrateful brat- on the contrary, if anyone ever goes that direction, you can point to her speech to the IOC and say she's a matyr for Russia. I'd like to see Eteri try to sabotage that.

It's official. She's just still a Sambo 70 member, much like Yuzuru's club isn't TCC at comps. It's for National championships.

Part of the bargaining, to ensure that she continues to rep Russia (or for her to ensure she is allowed to continue repping Russia). No surprise that she would want to keep repping Russia - you would not stand up in front of the IOC and plead the case of the OAR contingent unless you were a fervent believer in repping Russia.
