Way off-topic, but Christopher Dean and Jane Torvill are in the BBC studio to discuss the ice dance FD, and earlier this afternoon their Bolero routine was shown. I felt so embarrassed, I'd never bothered to watch it before now. Obviously a gap in my education.

That's a great quote about Tracy Wilson. Brian talked about Tracy and his need to be more patient with his younger skaters in an IceNetwork interview. He said he couldn't understand how teenagers could be so tired in the middle of the day and so Tracy had to explain that to him. 

 

The other quote, about loving all his students the same, I've heard before and I'm just not buying it. I understand that he doesn't want to show favoritism but they are all very different people of varying ages and backgrounds who also have varying relationships with him. So I seriously doubt that he's not attached to some of them more than others. And that's perfectly okay.

Have you watched their Paso Doble from the 1984 Olympics? That is my absolute favorite skate of theirs. And I was delighted to discover that it was also one of Brian Orser's all-time favorites. (Brian also said that Yuzu was the men's Torvill & Dean, which is what I thought too when I first discovered Yu. Can't get a better compliment than being compared with those two!)

I think while their relationship might differ, it's very admirable of him to try to love all of them equally. Like when parents have multiple children, of course they'd be closer to some of them than others, but by trying to love them all the same even if they might have a different personality than what is preferred, is the only way to deal with it. Especially if you want them to develop on their on pace, their own way. It wouldn't help at all if he said, I'm closer to this student /child than to that other because our personalities match better.  So I madly respect his psychological abilities!

Tbh I'm really glad Brian can say openly he thinks of them as sons and not only students, I remember he said after Yuna left him it was hard for him to have a deeper relationship with his students or something like this.
