When I asked my sister (she's not knowledgeable in FS) about the difference between ice dance and pairs she said that pairs have throws and have more lifting and that's it. No SS.. A long time ago ice dance used to be footwork, footwork and footwork. Those times...

Oh I'm happy for C/B. I like their FD, and I love some of their lifts. I hope they can make it to the final.

About P/C I gotta say I love their FD and I prefer them as a pair to V/M (oh, the heresy)

I don't know enough about ID to tell if today's score is deserved or not but as a viewer I've loved the performance. I do think Tessa and Scott are wonderful and I do think their FD is phenomenal, but till now only P/C have managed to steal my breath while performing. It's happened with their previous FDs, it's happened with this one when I watched it live during Finlandia trophy (till Guillaume fell and kinda broke the enchantment) and it's happened again. I just love their flow, their speed and how well every little movement of the choreo and every step and turn suits the piano music. Also, the placement of the spins is wonderful.

Maybe I like V/M lifts better, but overall I think P/C just suit my tastes more.

(tbh even rewatching the previous quadriennium battle V/M vs D/W I would have rooted for the americans more, so I guess it's really only my personal taste here. I'm sorry)

Also, I like that P/C is rather well-balanced in terms of "presence" on the ice (I'm not talking about technical ability), while I feel that in ID (and pairs too) too often the guy just fades into the background. IMO it happens to Scott too, Tessa is the main focus of the pair and, as trivial as it may sound, Scott's costumes don't help.

I always have to watch their programs several times: 1. to appreciate the whole picture 2. to appreciate Gabi 3. to just look at what Guillaume is doing because he always does a lot

Me too - they have a subtlety that V/M lack - they are a better balanced team- I find Vs 'expressiveness' a bit ott at times - a bit flashy?

I like both P/C and V/M. Their FDs are so completely different I can appreciate both without having to choose which one I prefer. They're two different styles that I can enjoy equally so in the end I don't really root for one to win over the other. 

 

In the SD, though, I'm equally mortified by both girl's dresses and am not yet sure which program I prefer, if any, because the less I think about the rhythm chosen, the best. 

O Lord how I agree about those costumes!  I was abroad with iffy wi fi for ACI and the lighting at that competition wasn't the brightest so I thought it was just a black dress with over large rhinestones, bit tasteless but in the overall scheme of a Latin SP not the worst  - when I saw it at SC  - leopard print !!!  As for the green and yellow fringed horror - what was she thinking??

I blame it on the Latina year. And I'm starting to enjoy the tackiness of SP costumes.

The Italian unitards pair takes my biscuit for worst costumes of the night! 

Agree on the unitards too - can someone knowledgeable drop them on 'costumes we love to hate' thread?  And BESP thought they were good!!!!

I love both teams and prefer V/M, but I think P/C will win. I do not think Moonlight S is a better program, but the music is hypnotic and beautiful and serious.... I find that is a big advantage here... call me silly, but watching skating for over 35 years teaches you things....
