Watch Yuzu training 4A like he trained 4Lo in 2016 as rehab, fuelled by competitivity because someone else was attempting the jump...:slinkaway:

In theory he is in a better place time-wise than he was in 2016 for a new jump, but while the 4Lo didn't strained his left foot, this time he needs a good right ankle for 4A, so it's gotta be harder.

Also, he'd been landing 4Lo in a few ice shows before and he'd somehow trained it to the point he briefly considered it for Boston. Re: 4A, so far Brian has only confirmed that Yuzu tried it and apparently can fully rotate it without help from harness for more airtime, but rumours aside, we have no video so we can't know how close he is.

I do believe the jump has been trained more than Brian says  (Brian didn't tell anyone 4Lz was going to be in Yuzu's layout, nor did Yuzu. Some of us only speculated about that knowing Yuzu's character and ambition. And then he came out in COR and while the jump was mightly moody, he landed some with such a quality it's easy to believe Yuzu when he talked about training a +3 GOE worthy jump).

Yuzu said he was reworking his 3A technique so he is pretty darn serious about that. But he really needs a 100% healed ankle because the landing must be a monster and he would not destroy his ankle and say goodbye to skating before he could even land the jump, because he tried it when his body wasn't ready.

He's ambitious but also sensible and he loves skating too much. So he's gonna be careful about that. Of course accidents can happen but he'll do his best to minimize the risks.

That said, I'll still root for Yuzu to be the first one to land ratified 4A in ISU competition (so to continue the parallelism with Dick Button:laughing:). Otherwise, well, Brian Orser wasn't called Mr.3A because he was the first skater to jump 3A :animated-smileys-hands-fingers-01:

RE: Shoma's GOE

With the new rules for most jumps the shouldn't ever go over +3 because he wouldn't clear bullet for very good height&distance and tbh also the one for good take off, il judges were looking at things like good toe pick or PR  (what's supposed to be a good take off, other than this and the correct edge?). Tbh I'm not even sure his best jumps, 4T and 3A, can clear that height&distance bullet. Are those VERY good? The toe is quite high but doesn't cover much ice iirc, his axel looks like it can get good ice coverage  (tho again, is it VERY good?) but not much height... so even if Shoma can clear other bullets, like steps before jump, he's capped.

Nathan isn't one of those skaters who usually come into mind about height&distance (maybe better height than distance) but likely better than Shoma, plus overall better technique on take off, so in theory he has more chances to go above +3 if he works on better flow on exit and adds steps in (not saying it's easy to do)

Both Boyang and Misha have better potential to get >3goe (tho Misha's jumps tend to be very high but not that long).

So actually the new rules, if applied well, hit Nathan in BV and Shoma in *max* GOE attainable,  which is fair tbh, unless Shoma manages to get better lift on his jumps.

ETA 2

this to say that while it's been true Shoma has been closer to Yuzu in GOE, it might change. Of course there are still GOE on non-jump elements...

To be honest, I just know less about Shoma as a skater, so I'd have a harder time giving him a plausible layout for next season, whereas I know more about Yuzu and Nathan (and Boyang). What do you think a plausible next-season Shoma layout is? If we can put one together I can see what it should be scoring given various GOEs.

In Shoma's case, going by his words, he'll drop the 3S and is training the 4S, so he has a few options, and he could go back to the layout he used in Lombardia Trophy last season, minus 3S and accounting for the backloading changes (4Lo 4S 3A3T 4F // 4T2T 4T 3A1Lo1Eu3F, though he could bring the 3A3T to the bonus?)

But it's hard to account for Shoma's layouts, because he might want to attack hard and react to other's layouts as the season goes along.

Let's cross post, as it was in Team Canada ....

I ... I guess it's fun but goodness, what's the point. Sigh. Though I guess I liked being informed I could jump triples woot woot

Keegan... I didn't know you wanted Yuzuru Hanyu to come back in september with a 4A in his layout... good to know you care about motivating him so much though!

Rationally thinking it wouldn’t surprise me either but I want him to be Mr Quad Axel so bad  :sadPooh:

It would totally surprise me... landing it in practice on a harness is quite different than landing in competition, rotated. We haven't seen a single non harness 4A, so... And it seems like it would be posted all over social media if they did :P

I think it would surprise me if anyone lands 4A this season.

Guys, just a small note to let everyone know in advance.

Come the new season, which would be this Sunday officially, we'll be moving General Skating Chat to Knickknacks so if you are looking for it, it's there.

Considering it has a lot of conversation that is not just Yuzuru related, and it's good to have a skating chat home where everyone can be talked about, it's more suited for that forum!

Hope you will all keep coming there!

We'll of course leave a move trail here, so it'll be easy to find it! Thank you!

P.S. While we're here, we'll also be archiving the 2017/18 season of events in time, so don't be surprised about that either, as new events are coming! :tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid:

And welcome to our new home!

Since the season has officially started, we have a new Junior thread, so do pop by! It should be a fun one, I can't wait to see what's in store.

When does the JGP begin?

I love FS a lot but idk if it can survive 2022

ISU very determined to destroy their own sport :xD:

I went into fs hiatus after spiral seqs are gone, came out from the cave again thanks to zuzu and javi. I dont know if I can survive post 2022 fs apocalypse either..

I guess it will be totally coincidental that when Yuzuru will eventually retire, FS will die as a sport and I guess I won't be the only one losing part of my interest and, say, stop spending money on competitions and tickets and get on with my life... although it's pretty sad to think that Yuzuru's type of skating, and those who are looking up to him and trying to become as complete as him, won't go on for long because it does not play for the advantage of... who exactly? Why is ISU like this?
