[2017] GP Rostelecom Cup - Men Free Skating

Thanks to all for the warning about the BESP commentary. I'll happily skip it.

Despite its many negatives, one of the positives about Icenetwork is that there is no commentary for most of the GP events. Just the music and the skating. Nice.

Chris Howarth who is a BESP commentator is the director of Glacier Skating Academy. Yes, that Glacier, where Ouriashev is based, where Shoma Uno goes to train. Ah well.

So Chris Howarth is the commentator who calls Yuzuru’s program not as packed with content as Uno? Conveniently ignore that Yuzuru has put the 4lz which has higher base value then...

No, Tara, the 4Lz is not the hardest quad there is.
Seriously though, both Tara and Johnny were nice! And Johnny mentioned the injury.

No, it was Mark this time but same thing really.

Do you have his twitter or email? I would gently send him Base Value of all skaters and say no more...

just caught up with Kurt's commentary on Yuzu and Nathan and looool, I have to say Kurt is amazing^^ Love his commentary on men's discipline. I laughed so hard especially on Nathan's FS commentary:rofl:

Also, I've wondered since last year's worlds now - why does Yuzuru need Kikuchi during his short sprints? I mean, it's not like without him he would run into the wall and knock himself unconscious?

RE: British ESP - I think Chris & Mark have always been only when he's perfect Yuzu fans. I wish Simon would've been there, except was also a bit caught up with the 'vulnerable' narrative last season as well. /sigh/

The Italians and Spanish commentators got our back. Oh and also Odaddy. We'll see if Kurt join the bandwagon too....   We should make a list for who is on team Hanyu this season:smiley-cool14:

Honestly the one thing that I really am pissy about is that they had this narrative about the not-perfect Yuzuru last season yet not once, not once, had they mentioned how injured he had been post Boston and just how much that injury had affected him. There is absolutely no chance that they did not know about the injury, so that alone is purposefully leading reporting. Ever since then, I just cannot with them.

Agreed. But when I think back about it, I don't recall any other commentators talking about his injury as well? Or is my memory serving me wrong? Also, I find the Glacier arena tweets about Shoma really uncomfortable for some reason.

Ok - I now know why they don't show it live- advertising my dear friends, and heavy on the gambling ads.  A set of ads per programme.  I reckon ad time slightly outweighs skating time especially as they (needlessly - it's always on- need to advertise their own snooker and cycling coverage as well)

Meh - the commentary - preferable in a language I don't understand tbh.  Apparently the Swan is an old FS - who knew?

Still good to see it on a big screen and with a good sound system.  Just watching the last of the heavily edited gala.

It's just, there are commentators that treat (SOME) skaters as if they were machines who are supposed to deliver tot content each time (mister Hanyu the Alien), and a few bunch of commentators who actually treat skaters as people. Like, they take their humanity into consideration. Which doesn't seem like a lot, but apparently, it's quite hard for most sports journalists/speakers/so on.

No, they didn't, though for example BESP guys did mention Shoma's injuries at one point.
I think I was particularly annoyed with the BESP thing is because they went on about him being more vulnerable this (past) season, and not looking consistent and that entire thing. Then remember the whole, they don't remember the last time he skated blah blah and basically he's done. Until I caught the Chris connection I was really thrown for a loop but there we go.  I don't actually think either NBC or CBC pushed that so much.

She's been unbeatable for two seasons - why can't a professional commentator memorise the poor girls name????

How long have commentors butchered Yuzu name? Only after the Olympics when they got it correct right?

So she needs to win the Olympics then her name will be said correctly. :slinkaway:
