I've always shied away from mentioning I did ballet to any Americans. It seems like a lot more of a status symbol over there than down here in the Kingdom of No Worries, Mate - something to brag about and compete with people over who is ballerinaiest ballerina of them all.

You know, I think Hersh is the one who tired me out on the ballet narrative with all his OTT articles on Nathan. Nathan himself has mentioned ballet but only occasionally and if prompted but the narrative around his balletic style by the media, especially icenetwork (remember that article comparing him to a famous ballet dancer and complaints by his middle grade teacher or something about how his PCS weren't high enough to reflect it?), is the super annoying part that has made me dread the word balletic.

The only thing I like about this "balletic" nonsense it is the shade Yuzu threw its way.

On the other hand, Nathan himself has had some interviews that have made me shake my head and want to shake HIM a bit, like how if you want to see artistry go watch ice dance. That one was so .

I mean, his primary coach is a guy who doesn't think (or didn't think) transitions are all that important, if I'm remembering an interview with him correctly (about Ashley, I think) so I'm not surprised. I hope Nathan has grown a bit more in this kind of thought since last season but we'll see. He's still just a kid after all.

There was some talk last season about how his components rose very quickly through the season, especially post-Nationals, hence the increase in the balletic narrative surrounding Nathan post-Nationals and especially pre-Worlds. All this to justify how he was rising so fast in those scores through the season. And then amidst all this narrative, there comes Nathan and his comment on artistry and ice dance and I just groaned so loud... and I bet his PR people did too.

On another topic, I actually love Nathan's SP - that style suits him and is so much more interesting than the "balletic" boring stuff he did last year. He's the only one of the "magnifiecent six" I couldn't warm up to until now, I'd be glad if that changes.

This is going to be an exciting year.

Right? I'm so glad - I love having more skaters to root for. It was the same with Boyang - I got nothing out of his debut season but Spiderman changed my life.

It seems I am in the minority because I liked Nathan's SP last season more than the new one. I can see the potential of the program and I kind of understand where they are going with it but I don't think he is comfortable performing it yet. He still has lots of empty space in the choreography although the beginning and the step sequence are pretty good, and he does need to do something about his posture. I mean even I noticed it, and I never see these things.

I like Nathan's new SP. The opening and ending are great, not so much for the middle part, its very empty atm. I think his movements were abit tense and out of music at some points, but overall its good program for him. I would like to see him perform it with more relax, better speed and ofcourse, more transition

 

Mura's music make me wanna dance  I like the stsq and his jumps when he land them are great, good high, strong and secure  His costume is not enough bling though
