[2017] CS US Internat. FS Classic (13-17.09)

So Nathan is going to be ending his SP with a solo 4Lz? OMG, he's out-crazying YOI!

I really like Nathan's SP, actually. I love the music, I love the beginning choreography (even if he was a little more rushed here than in the Sun Valley clip, where his movements were more languid and fit the music a bit better) and the step sequence is very promising. He'll get to grow with it through the season and has the potential to hit very high scores with the BV he'll start with if clean.

I do agree with @kaerb about the 'vulture' lunge, though.

I'm waiting to see his FS. Last season I also quite liked his SP,  which I thought was miles better than his FS.

Starting orders for the men's FS.

Nathan Chen's JP fanclub misspells Nathan Chen's name.  Sorry, I'm easily amused at 7 in the morning.

(His posture really bugs me, too.)

But fantastic choreography for him. I hope he stays far away from ballet. I feel like the ballet snobbery in skating is even worse than in actual ballet. "Ballet training" means nothing if it's presented coldly and stiffly. This was so much more dynamic and suitable for his age and you can tell this is what he'd rather be doing, I think.

He said he had some ballet movements in  his new FS.

I like that it's just "some."

I've never really followed Max closely but I've felt that he only really had one speed and he just moved his arms around as an afterthought (perhaps that's part of what contributes to the lack of "artistry" he's criticised for) but I feel like this is a huge improvement. This is the first time I believe he's feeling the emotions of the music. (I'm a bit sleep deprived and it's making me really happy and "YEAH! GO YOU! YOU CAN DO IT!" watching everyone.)

Well... that's PR for you. He did ballet so he's (or Arutunian or USFS) using that background to sell his "artistry" mainly because he's been dubbed as a jumping machine. I liked his SP and I'm hoping he retains most of the choreography even when he adds that 2nd quad in the program.

That ballet is holding back his artistry, though (it's a pretty stuffy institution struggling to stay relevant as it is.) Look how much better when he skates this way! I actually enjoy watching non-ballet Nathan but I would probably take a toilet break for ballet Nathan.

(I did ballet for about 10 years as a child and it's super fun and wonderful and my favourite so I don't mean to offend ballet lovers, I just don't like the exclusivity and elitism.)

I actually don't know why they focused on that so much. hahaha.. He's a young teen, let him be one. The ballet thing is really not working out. At this point they're just gonna keep mentioning his ballet training as proof of artistry because once he puts in 6-7 quads in his free there will be NO artistry at all..
