Another Olympic sport which puts cash over athletes wellbeing

The condition of 32C temperature and 70% humidity is going to happen in Tokyo Olympic next year and I am already terrified for the athletes. Kudos to all fighting in Doha right now, I've been watching them on TV.

In this case, we should be grateful that the football (soccer) World Cup 2022 in Qatar will be held in December instead of June, as they usually are. :rofl2:

The FIFA could've of course just chosen a location where temperatures are reasonable in June instead of forcefully moving national leagues, Champions League, etc. schedules around and making fans watch the World Cup alongside skiing. But yeah, the power of money is a strong one. :/

So, in gymnastics, they're also trying to create a more "even" field by devaluing things that only the GOAT can do? :smiley-rolleyes009:

The difference is that Biles probably gets a lot of support and backing in this regard. I don't think that this open criticism will backfire on her. Anyway, it's good that she addresses scoring issues and claims proper credit for her efforts.

Notable blooper in other sports this weekend:

Snooker player Neil Robertson missed the qualification round for the World Open 2019 and had to pay 250 £ penalty, because he went to the wrong venue. As his long time fan I'm just... lost for words...:13877886::13877886::13877886:

This reminds me of Kenzo Shirai's comment after Japanese nationals this year, the situation is quite different though.

Kenzo Shirai did not understand why he got very low score in the floor routine at Japanese nationals. "That was the floor performance I could have clean landings the most in my gymnastics career. I can't make myself comprehend why I got that score." Before the competition, he showed his routine to the judges to get the feedback and they said to him shaky landings would affect his E score. "They told me to land cleanly and I did, but I received such a (low) score. I don't want to compete having the doubts like this. They should give more points (if it is decided as the rule), and then I think they should deduct more points from the scores of the athletes who didn't have clean landings." Kenzo said now he would focus on gathering information about how the scoring works.

He was brave IMO.

Team Japan WAG are missing Mai - scraped through the Olympic qualifier.  MAG have only qualified one gymnast to the AA - looking scary for Tokyo.

On the tech side they are planning to use the robot judges for certain things - hope this will spread to skating.

Japanese badminton player, Kento Momota (he has been the top in the world ranking) was caught in a car accident with his team. The driver died, Momota broke his nose and cut his lip, and others were also hurt. I hope they will be recovered soon physically and mentally.

Very sad news, I hope he and the others who were injured will get better soon.

Glad to see the news that Momota will be able to return to Japan tomorrow.  According to the Malaysian hospital which did the MRI, he does not have any broken bones, and the lacerations in his face and jaws look bad but are expected to heal in a week or so.  But it was a serious accident and the impact killed the driver, so it was miraculous that the rest of the passengers survived with relatively minor injuries.  But people are concerned about PTSD - the accident was horrendous and the Japanese news showed a clip from Malaysian SMS showing Momota and his team sitting/lying by the road side looking devastated.

Momota has had to come back from an ignominous exclusion from the Rio Olympics due to his past (youthful) misconduct; the last few years he has fully redeemed himself through diligence and wisdom gained from that experience.  Now he is receiving warm support from the Japanese public who recognize this and are wishing him only the best after this terrible accident.  His path has been very different from Yuzu's but in both cases the rose up to the challenges of overcoming very difficult experiences.

Wishing him a speedy recovery and an even stronger spirit after this accident.
