November 20, 20214 yr So, can we not have him outragously overscored this time, judges? Or are we pushing him even with those mistakes, still? I am also still asking, where is the program, Kagiyama?
November 20, 20214 yr Gah...Yuma started strong, but he's falling apart a bit now. Still, great effort. But level 2 on the StSeq? Small reflection on JSF politics: I know that as the JSF favorite, Yuma will get judging candies he might not have earned. And that it's very annoying. But just like I still enjoy Shoma's skating even knowing he gets the JSF boost, I still see lots to enjoy in Yuma's skating. I wish we could separate the politics from the skating and the skaters.
November 20, 20214 yr Not perfect but still easy win for him (with the judges "love" towards him). I like this program style much better for him than the short.
November 20, 20214 yr Yuma performs Gladiator so much better than his short! looks like Japan 1, 2 wow so pleased for Shun!
November 20, 20214 yr So we have Yuma, Shun and Jason podium - I'm very satisfied with that Can't wait for the victory ceremony.
November 20, 20214 yr 90 PCS for Yuma? second half was basically a mess, yet he can get this score? well, my complaining doesn't change anything so let it be. Happy for Shun and Jason. Jason was the highlight of this competition and the gold in my heart. I can see Shun climbing the ladder of improvement slowly too, relying on himself rather than his federation. sigh Edit: agree and well.... there are so many things wrong in Yuma's score... so many sigh
November 20, 20214 yr Pleased for Jason and delighted for Shun. I wish I believed that despite the politicking bonus Yuma would continue to improve - he impressed me so much at the junior Olympics, but as an admirer of Shoma I expect he’ll rest on that cushion until the next ordained one comes along to swipe the bonus away from him. Shun isn’t as polished but he’s a trier and he’s dissatisfied if he hasn’t done his absolute best which makes him more interesting to me. Chen and Zhou and Shoma are awful reminders of what happens when individuals get too much early fed backing inflating their scores without actual solid technique, skating skills, and connection to the music to back it up - they don’t address their shortcomings and start to rely on the bonus rather than trying to improve the areas that are problematic.

November 21, 20214 yr To be fair, Jason should be called for his lutz as well but he isn’t for the exact reason as Yuma isn’t called. I love love Jason but he is very lucky to be American to get these scores and honestly, his TES is boosted due to his passport too. But the thing is that if Yuma with a mediocre performance like today gets similar PCS to Jason in his good day, then I tend to close my eyes on Jason’s boosted TES too. In some sense, no one is actually getting their “correct” scores atm
November 21, 20214 yr The overscoring for Yuma becomes clearer this time when he gets very high marks with several mistakes. I am wondering how this would affect Yuzu's mentality. He must have felt discouraged by Nathan already, now adding Yuma to that list. The room for him to make a mistake is just too small. JNat is just one month away. I am getting excited because of the chance seeing Yuzu soon, but at the same time worried about Yuzu's tough situation, physically and mentally. Under Olympic season, to keep trying 4A while facing enormous expectation and pressure from competition must be pretty pretty hard, let alone he is injured right now. For the 21 WC, he started to practice his program 3 days before heading to Stockholm because he spent all his energy on 4A. Olympic is for sure a much greater beast than WC. Sometimes I really can't imagine the pressure Yuzu has right now. The thing that only calms me down is what Brian said, "he is experienced enough, whatever he makes is a good decision".

I am wondering how this would affect Yuzu's mentality. I don’t think Yuzu is affected at all tbh. In all of his career, he had to compete with skaters who got very high unfair scores, Patrick (Chanflation), Shoma, Nathan, etc…. He is used to this but I can see him wanting to change this for the future generations. Like, he might have felt bad for Shun or Mosalev after seeing Yuma's score. Anyway, this is a good comparison. There is no way the difference in GOE between Shun and Yuma’s 4T+3T should be 1.49. I’m glad that Japanese fans also point it out loud politely. Edit: this is another evidence on why mistakes and wrong jumps shouldn’t be unfairly rewarded. Yuma did it again confidently in the face of technical panel. He isn’t going to fix it as long as he is rewarded for it. We all have seen how this movie ends several times Spoiler https://twitter.com/intelligentYuzu/status/1462258441074864129
