Yuzu saying he will go for 4A this season, also that he doesnt have as much energy as he had for Pyeongchang and Sochi - do we believe him about this last bit?? Some psychological trick to lower expectations esp of rivals??  I dont know....

I do believe him. While he's still young compared to athetes in other sports or even ID (where there are quite a number of people as old as him or older at top levels), he has as many as 11 senior seasons on his back, all jumping quads. Even injuries aside, remember what Patrick and Javi had to say around Oly season2017-18, that things felt so much harder at 26-27 yo.  Now Yuzu has reached that age, while also having pounded his body a lot more than them (Javi never did 4jumps layouts, Patrick barely ever did 3 quads and 2 quads in SP. Both of them mastered only 2 types of quads).

However good his technique is and however smart his training is, wear and tear + the natural loss of stamina, flexibility can't be reversed, and stamina hasn't even ever been a particular strenght of his to beign with, with his asthma and also the fact that he tends to lose weight (muslce mass) easily in off season when he eases his training schedule.

That of course doens't mean that he can't keep doing insane things -- he's training 4A and he can do clean 4 quads layouts for his kind of programs, with TR and all. Only a handful of skaters, all much younger than him, can claim as much. --

But it's gonna get harder and harder to keep doing the stuff he does, how he does.

e.g. one could view the fact that he's backloading SP 3A instead of quad combo in the last season as way to manange his stamina better throguhout the program (jumping on tired legs leads ot higher mistakes and lower quality jumps. Of course that was hard even when he was 22yo, but as 26 yo it's likely harder, and it became an acceptable compromise vs loss of BV)

Like, it's ok to accept that age is a thing that plays a huge role in a sport.

It doens't mean considering Yuzu a fossil or saying he should retire, just acknowledging that he has a human body and dealing with it (and yes, its limits too) has to factor in his plans.

Yes I agree - we know this sport favours the young! BUT just knowing Yuzuru a bit, his determination, his way of finding solutions to things....I would maybe expect him to be managing stuff so he peaks at the right time I suppose (I wondered if he'd do GP series because of that very reason) - then again if he's committed to devoting himself to 4A this season, he'll want many opportunities to give it a go maybe and that's gonna take it's toll on his body for sure.  Its just it doesnt seem like Yuzu to give up on a chance of an Olympic medal (he said that comment in relation to  question about Beijing I think).  But of course we all know the hammer he has given his body for all these years....take care Yuzuru!!!

EDIT: just seen a slightly different translation - using the word passion interchangeably with energy

I think more detailed articles will come, but Yuzuru says he will not go back to Canada and will practice in Japan from now on, he feels he can improve himself by training alone from experience of the last season.

I'm not surprised, and I'm happy for him that he gets to spend more time with his family and has found a training solution that works for him.

But as a North American fan, I'm also, selfishly, absolutely gutted that my chances of getting to see him skate live again just plummeted.

About this tweet, Yuzu actually said he doesn't have as much enthusiasm about the Beijing Olympics as he had at Sochi/Pyeongchang.

Thanks yes, the initial translation I saw used the word "energy" - I suppose that could be interpreted as physical  energy or as passion/enthusiam.

I see Yuzu has said he is doing GP series to give opportunity for landing 4A so he is definitely prioritising that over the Olympics by the look of it....I still sort of fancy his chances at Olys if he skates clean tho!

Another article came and the nuance here might be a little bit different. Here he also says he is not thinking about going back to Canada at this point since there are a lot of procedures for it.

I'm not at all surprised about all that's come out from this DOI. We should've known better than to expect Yuzu have a SP ready to go in July lol - hopefully he'll surprise us tomorrow with a different EX performance!

It's also not a surprise that he's choosing not to return to Canada and doesn't have the enthusiasm for Beijing as he did for Sochi and Pyeongchang.  Training in Japan is so much easier for him and his family will be able to spend more time together. I only hope that he keeps Brian on as a coach for long-distance training.

As mentioned already, by 26-27 in figure skating, especially after jumping quads for SO LONG, I bet Yuzu's body is starting to feel more tired than it did when he was in his early twenties. It seems that he'll go to the Olympics if he's feeling healthy and put on the team, otherwise there may not be any love lost. He wanted to win gold in 2014 and then he wanted to be the first repeat champion in 66 years in 2018. He really doesn't need to compete in Beijing to prove anything. If everything goes as predicted NC has the gold in the bag barring any disasters. Yuzu winning gold there would be a wonderful surprise, but I have a feeling that if he competed and lost out on the gold then the media coverage that would follow would be unbearable (at least to me, maybe not Yuzu haha).

Rika's costume

mmmh, I don't like it. Especially the cuffs and gloves. Nude or sheer black without all those ruffles would look a  lot better, but I also dislike the belt.

tbh I hope they change reference costume of cut out the part that substitutes for the jacket... It has kind of a "heavy" look as a costume...

It looks even worse upfront...

Edit:

1. At least the mesh is a stepup.

2. Why does she add a head-band???

3. I just look at the details. It doesn't scream Satomi Ito so I hope it really is not.

Video training continues i think. I just remembered when his team admitted to him being different and not very enthusiastic going into 18-19. His biggest dream was the 2OGM and he got it. And he missed javi 😂. I think by then he was satisfied enough 🙂

No he certainly doesn't need to compete there, but WE need him too lol! (only joking - we want him too of course, because it would be so exciting to see him on that big glorious stage with all the world watching him and seeing what he brings to his amazing performances....)

I'll continue dreaming !
