afaik you can't have 4 kamon...only 1, 3, or 5...

Then i guess Yuzu's blue kimono has the fifth on the back but we never saw it because of that  i thought it was weird too since 4 is supposed to be an unlucky number right?

:13877886:it's easier for me to tell with women but i haven't found much about appropriate formal kimono for men so that's why i ask:13877886:

Yeah, the formality is dictated by the number of crests iirc but i'm still:14066882:

Yeah that one wasn't his :P it was for the Sendai promo. That's another reason why i am :14066882: is it ok? isn't it? I need answers as to why we were spared from hakama death.

Well well, we have been busy here haven't we?

While I am not an expert in men's kimono, I can still borrow Dr Google's expertise so I will just put some explanation from various web sites.

First of all, the emperor's garden party was held in daytime, so the dress code for ladies included day-dress (long or 3/4 sleeves) with no sparkles, shiro-eri mon-tsuki (white collar kimono with crests), iro-tomesode or houmon-gi. For gentlemen, they will have to be in morning coat, mon-tsuki haori bakama (紋付羽織袴 = haori jacket with crests & hakama),  uniform (military, police, etc), or suit.

And for colour of haori jacket with crests (紋付羽織), formal one must be black made with habutae silk (黒羽二重) with five crests (五つ紋). For hakama (袴), usually in either brown or black made with  Sendai-hira-silk (仙台平 - Yuzu's home town is known for this) or other silk and in stripes. Though colour is not limited to these two, plain colour with no stripes are not considered as formal.

So colour other than black in haori & hakama is not formal. Hakama only is definitely not formal. Black haori jacket with 5 crests, nagagi (kimono underneath the jacket) and hakama, 3 pieces comprise men's formal kimono.

Yuzu could wear mon-tsuki haori bakama with his family crests but that would be a tall order because a suit is much easier for walking around but if you wear hakama,  you also need to wear zouri (草履=sandals) which is kind of difficult to walk around. We all know Mr Hanyu on ground is very different to Mr Hanyu on ice...

Listening him talk to the Emperor and Empress, I wonder if Japanese have different way of speaking like my language. There is casual, respectful and a totally different way of speaking when talking to royalty.

I don't speak Japanese but hear from people that Yuzu speaks very eloquently and beautifully. I would love to hear this explained in greater detail!

He does <3  I wish i was more competent at the language to explain why but i'm sure someone who is less swirly impaired than me will be able to explain it

When Yuzu spoke with the emperor, his wording was not so much different to the ones that he uses at official press conferences. The difference is more to do with the tone he used. It was much gentler with ending each sentences without strong punctuations. His speech was calm, soft and he avoided strong wording. Showing no aggression (towards yourself & others) is very important in this case. (I thought Yuzu must be talking to his grandma like that...)

One phrase he used that was more formal than usual is '~omotte orimasu/orimashita' (思っております/おりました) around 3:22~ on the video. 'orimasu' (おります) is a kenjo-go (謙譲語) which is a phrasing form to show respect by lowering oneself (the speaker) to elevate the other (the listener).

Someone at the studio of this video mentioned that it is rather long time the emperor had spent talking to Yuzu and I think the emperor seemed genuinely interested in what Yuzu has to say. Well done young man! We are all proud of you so much! :2thumbsup:

I just imagine Coach Fluffy carries him around asleep in a suitcase until it's time to compete or make an appearance.

Considering all the tea Itsuki (his brother) has spilled about Shoma's forgetfulness, I wouldn't be surprised if this was true.

Prime minister Abe asked Hanyu if he is going to Beijing 2022 Olympics at

12 Minute mark in the video link.

Yuzu replied

"For Beijing, Im not sure yet."

What? he did not give his usual long-winded-not-on-point-answer? Right, he’s talking to the PM...

Suddenly I wish his hair to be longer and cover his ears and eyes...

“I can’t see you”

”I can’t hear you”

Shoma is the First apprentice of the Great ninja master Yuzuru Hanyu-dono. Also the master of teleport.

Yuzuru did say he still had some things to teach Shoma. They clearly started with the stealth lesson. Next is not forgetting things, like his pin (medal, skates, etc... this lesson will go on for years).

In all honesty, announcing intentions for 4A and quints.... That's legitimately at least four seasons worth of work. I mean, unless he's a lot further on then he and Brian are letting on, Nessie is at least 2 seasons away. And he hasn't even started practicing quints right?

We know he's been trying a 4A for some time, by that I mean several years.  It hasn't been a high priority for him because he was working on getting the easier quads into his armory.  Now that he has an adequate number of the backward-entry quads he can focus on the Axel version.  As far as quints go, remember, a quint involves just another half rotation over the axel.  Probably the only reason he (and many others) has not really gone after a quint is because, as far as I know, quints haven't been assigned a base value.  Once the ISU gives the quints base values the race will truly be on.  As far as the 4A and quints go, though, I don't think he'll need four seasons to attain them.  Remember he only needed three weeks to get a suitable number of quads back into functional form once he was back on the ice after the injury.  I think, also, with Stephen Gogolev right there doing all the quads anyone else does, he Yuzu an incentive to press forward into unknown territory.  I'm not saying he's consciously motivated there but Yuzu has shown a consistent pattern of answering the attainments of others with his own attainments.  The thing is that in terms of basic skating skills Yuzu's so much on top of that (thanks to Tracy's work several years ago) that he can concentrate on expanding the athletic aspect of the sport and only worry about the basics when putting together a new program.  On top of all that I wouldn't be surprised if Yuzu hasn't already achieved a quad/quad combination (probably a 4S/4T), but doesn't feel on top of that enough to use it in competition.  All of us should remember that when Yuzu is really motivated he is more than willing and more than able to achieve things that are mere dreams to other skaters.

PS - I don't think the ISU is in any hurry to assign values to quints.  It's already trying to take measures to restrict the worst aspects of quadmania and it really doesn't want another mania to take hold.  As it is, I imagine Yuzu's not the only person working on a 4A, which has become the holy grail of figure skating but I remember a number of skating experts several years ago being  asked who would be the first person to master the 4A where the answer was a unanimous Yuzuru Hanyu.

If for some reason an individual were to receive a second medal of the same ribbon colour, then a second medal is not issued but rather a new bar is added to their current medal. The Medals of Honor are awarded twice each year, on April 29 (the birthday of the Shōwa Emperor) and November 3 (the birthday of the Meiji Emperor).

ETA lol "for some reason"
