ISU has designated their own food service providers for the Worlds, and will not allow any other food to be provided to the athletes.

Spoiler

...sounds like Soviet tactics to me. Anyone here old enough to remember the 1972 'Summit on Ice', Canada vs the Red Army, in ice hockey, 7 game series held in Moscow? When the Canadians landed and got to their hotel, they discovered that all the food they'd brought with them for the team to eat had been 'confiscated', never to reappear...and the Canadians had to play for the whole series on whatever they could find.

...it's  like they're deliberately trying to create a situation that'll rattle and distract certain athletes. What the heck for, I wonder.

I wouldn't consider pure malice towards certain skaters impossible but I tend to think it's not that (though I believe their ill-will towards Yuzuru Hanyu would make them discard any polite remark, while the same from "an anointed one" would make them act immediately).
For me they don't even consider that some athletes have special needs which a non-specialised caterer couldn't attend.

And there is natto to be found in Stockholm, by the way.

(In a remote suburb of Stockholm, they don't deliver frozen food.)

Is there? Because according to something Roman Sadovsky said in his latest video, Canada is sending Keegan to Worlds but may send Roman  to WTT, because Keegan will have to quarantine after Worlds.

I don't know if Keegan will have to quarantine for two weeks as he is likely to have his full vaccinations - everyone in Alaska over the age of 16 can get their shots.

I also cannot see WTT going ahead, not in Japan.  Their vaccination program is lagging and their key sporting goal is to have the Summer Olympics.  If they allow WTT, there will be the chance of a super spreader event and that would essentially kill any chance of the Olympics, at least as far as spectators are concerned. "Visa free travel.... remains suspended.".  Japan doesn't seem to have created some special loophole for athletes traveling to a competition as Sweden has done.  Also, with the experience the Japanese have recently had members of their fencing team infected while at a competition in Hungary (as have other countries...), I just can't see them willing to risk the same result by hosting WTT this year.

Maybe Stockholm would be a test for holding or cancelling WTT, which would in turn be a test before Olympics? In this case I dare say safety may be good.

Or, they're trying to look like they're minimizing the number of people the athletes/coaches come into contact with... notice I said, "trying to look like." It's like closing the door after the horses have left the barn.

Ah, that's probably it. Man, all this is making the Quebec government look like heroes for their decision to cancel Worlds last year.

Of course, the current scoring is bullcrap, but if Yuzu manages to skate two squeaky clean performances with highest quality and still doesn't win, the ISU can prepare for the biggest shitstorm of all time.

Yes, I'm with you.  Yuzu will not want to win in a splatfest.  This is his chance to "reset" the judging standards and prepare the way for the 2022 Olympics.

Spoiler

Since so much of judging is subjective, and the concept of unconscious bias" have not yet filtered through the 20th Century Halls of ISU, two squeaky clean performances by Yuzu - with great flow and refined energy - would persuade the antiquated brain cells to "feel" emotionally and aesthetically obliged to give appropriately high GOEs.  By contrast, the cheerleader-style performance of the jumpcentric competitors would appear lacklustre and uninteresting, and the judges will find themselves subliminally giving appropriately lower GOE scores, combatting their habitual overscoring of GOEs because of Orthodoxy (I mean, bowing to the established authorities) drilled into their heads.

Yeah, the last three years Yuzu wasn't able to skate two perfectly clean programs in one competition. So the judges could comfortably rely on the new PCS cap and harsh GOE punishment. 'Hanyu made mistakes, NC didn't, end of story.' No more explanation needed.

But what if he skates clean? We saw what happened at JNats. The tech panel and the judges tried so damn hard to rob him that they put themselves in an incredibly precarious situation (especially with the invalidated spin, which was the absolute peak of insolence). Even the usually silent Japanese media and people like Jackie voiced up.

We can almost safely say that with two clean skates not even international judges can score Yuzu any lower than the Japanese panel did in December. He can only get higher from there. This is not exactly a reason to jump up and down from happiness, but it's not bad news either.

But those scores are again given by judges. Sorry, but I'm not seeing how it's on them that they get that awarded. Benefits, sure, but they didnt pick those points 🤷. Im not kidding myself. They are apart of the game, but unless they are in a pow wow with judges...not seeing how it's their fault.

Im done with this. You have your stand point and I have mine.

Athletes become accomplices when they remain silent.

And those are my two cents in this. Cheers.

You expect them to call out judges? No one likes rocking a boat.

Meh. This is a meaningless issue. Yuzuru will kick butt as he always does. Scoring and judges go low, he goes high.

Edit: shower epiphany's of a small degree 😂.

The skaters-and there have been some, that speak out are usually a foot out the door or retired. Javi, as an example, seemed to get a lot more bold when he made up his mind he was retiring. Dick Button doesnt hold back.

Politics always play a role, in everything, but usually (granted not all the time) it isnt the athletes who have real sway. They're cogs. It's the coaches, the federations, judges, marketers, ect that have real power and whose voices matter more.

Most athletes I have read about often will not and do not speak out due to retribution and fears they will be seen as hard to work with/manage/ect.

Granted, does this excuse everything? No, I'd agree with that to a point, but I think it unfair to throw it at the feet of young teens and 20ish yr olds.

Edit/Edit** Omg 😂😂😂. I'm not trying to.come off as agressive or snippy, because I realize I quoted you so it may seem that way. Apologies in advance if it came that way. I just honestly mused on some other points and wanted to get them out before I lost it.

 I do :ohmygod:

One week into my new employment I told my boss that the knowledge database created for my role is not user friendly at all and that it should be improved. Meaning, that I will do so further down the line.

Anyway,  I agree that Yuzu will kick ass. I’m 1000% sure if it. He has a very special connection to TTCT (H&E) just like he has with Seimei and I think that gives him extra confidence.

😂😂😂. Color me impressed. You do you then. I'm the quiet type, so it's just our differences at play.

I readily admit I'm only human. But thinking somthing in your head and voicing it -- let alone on an open forum with Yuzu's name on it -- are two completely different things. Wishing a young man bad luck is a disgraceful thing to do. I don't care if anyone disgraces themselves, but people tend to see Yuzu by association with his fans. I thought this forum has been careful not to go down that road.

As an archeological very interesting finding, this is not relevant to this thread, so I don't know if I should post it here, but this expression, not far from the beginning of the article, about caves between Heaven and Earth...

And they are so hard of access, and contain such treasures...

My mind may be a little bit Yuzuru-oriented?

And N**C did speak out when he thought he would LOSE some of his advantage when ISU planned to equalize  the value of 4Lz, 4L and 4Flip!!  So he speaks out only when it is not to his benefit, but holds his tongue when other things benefit him..such as overscored transitions etc.  That is why I watch his skates with a very jaundiced eye:bed:
