Agreed with @xeyra. I'm sorry to say that this wasn't really a challenging competition for Shoma. Everyone knew he was gonna be 1st it's just a matter of the score... and the score showed that he still couldn't beat Yuzu's scores with his 5quad program. So that 4Lz is looking mighty tempting now... and, he surely knows Yuzu has a 4Lz hiding somewhere as well. /LOL/

Strategy Talk Time! 1st 2 challenger series with 2 of the top 6 men done skating. Nathan: He's definitely keeping silent about his planned layout (prolly because there is no planned layout LOL). The fact that he can execute 5 different quads means he can play around with layouts and still get a high BV. They are scaling back on the quads though. And like I (and a few others) said, his team is prolly going for gradual addition of quads throughout the season to build up the PCS as the program gets emptier when the number of quads are added. Smart move because we did see the high PCS he built up last season from jumping ALL the quads culminating to Worlds went down after the failed FS at Worlds. The music choice for both the SP and FS are a much better fit and shows a bit of personality (added bonus of not being a warhorse). Shoma: From recent interviews he says he's thinking about 4S and 4Lz. He's a bit reactive in terms of strategy so I feel like we'll see some changes in layout once he's done competing with Nathan at Japan Open - depending on what Nathan's layout is gonna be. /LOL/

Gotta promote ANA... This must be a stylist he hasn't worked with yet. It's a new style for him right?

It was from one of Max Ambesi's translated podcast TBH if they change the rulebook Yuzu will probably find it a challenge and try to break the system again

Well, in the 1980 Winter Olympic games an inexperienced US hockey team won against the more experienced Soviets. They dubbed this event “Miracle on Ice” and after that they've been very much milking any underdog Americans winning by a 'miracle' narrative since because it always captivates the American public. But I don't think that narrative works for American FS this season because Nathan is certainly a medal contender as well as the Shibutanis.

I do get a feeling that creating a 'rivalry' angle is something media really really likes (looking especially at you JPN media) because it's 'good' tv. But the thing is, you don't need all this in sports. This is sports not a telenovela or a tv drama. They could get away with it a long time ago with Plushenko and Yagudin because those 2 actually hated each other (I remember NBC did a super dramatic pre olympic fluff piece about this) and I think they feel they need 'drama' for FS to sell (Tonya Harding anyone?). Meanwhile USFS is really selling this underdog narrative thing they're going for with the whole "Miracles Do Happen" tagline. /sigh/

Ironically, I think this was also where he gained some super diehard Chinese fans. I mean that pooh rain in Shanghai was really something else..

As long as he's a living meme it'll never end... I mean, there a whole thread here dedicated to this meme lord..

Speaking of laundry...
-
He doesn't like talking about it and feels that they are 'excuses'. He feels that a top athlete can perform under any circumstance. Fans find out about injuries, I think, only after the fact. It took an almost career ending injury for him to realise how important it is to keep healthy and injury free. Honestly, the more you read about him the more emo you're gonna get.

Hahahahaha.... I don't want to think about 2013 worlds... He was so broken... [excerpts from Aoi Honoo II translated by yuzusorbet] He's been skating injured at Worlds since his debut in 2012. I was happy he was finally injury free in 2017 but then he said he had an asthma attack 2 weeks prior to worlds and there were reports that it happened during practice as well. But... past is past. I'm just glad he's finally looking after his health now (and I believe him this time).

He looks good wearing stripes..

I actually forgot that he did a laundry CM before this (last January). Is that why it's not as awkward as the ironing? But that's the same shirt right? So either they filmed everything in one go or they used the same shirt on him from January. (Did he also wear this striped shirt in that Sendai landmarks photoshoot?)
