  1. Just a little out-of topic historical remark.
  2. Waw, what a work! After all there is something other than Maths, such as Physics and Histology. ;-) Thank you very much, I am so little qualified to appreciate the validity of your work (though understanding well the problem of measurements; i-Scope welcome) but what is sure is, it opens many gates, where Yuzuru Hanyu and Ghislain Briand must already be working quite a lot.
  3. Don't you think it could be still the old rivalry about "the other Brian in the battle"? In this too one can see Brian Orser's success, having certainly be instrumental in the "Yuzuvier" frienship in rivalry — a bit like, later, Alina Zagitova succeeded in being an undefective older sister to Alena Kostornaia, after the pain she had in losing her own "elder sister" Evgenya Medvedeva in such bitter terms — making me wonder and admire her so much for her 5th place at WC 2018 where certainly she had too heavy a heart to skate at all.
  4. I had not noticed this thread... Well, I have already sent him a paper letter before joining, hoping it may encourage him before 4CC if ever he would need it. I see I have not been very original. ;-)
  5. Brian Orser seems to have noticed it too. ;-)
  6. What a laugh! I didn't think Evgeny Plushenko could have such an exhibition program! Don't you think Yuzuru Hanyu's Parisienne Walkways and Somebody to love have that "pinch of salt"?
  7. I think this is relevant too. Team Tutberidze is a public school. Their teaching is secondary (with some pupils elementary age) and they are accountable to the Russian State of the training they provide. This is why for instance, Shoma Uno could not train there permanently (but I feel he has now found the right coach, and for Deniss Vasiljevs it seems wonderful too, as a motivation). This is why too, when results dwindle, pupils may go to "the junior group" or even switch to other teams or drop out (which in no way happened to Alina Zagitova, Eteri Tutberidze didn't seem glad of her decision but still supports her and I am 100% sure she is welcome whenever she wants, and I sincerely hope she will because she has fabulous skating skills, great performance etc). And there definitely ARE affection and humour. TCC's training is more the university stage, where you are taught but you take what you want — and you pay for it, so there is no accountability to Canadian government or anybody else (except if a federation is paying it). This is why, in my opinion, Evgenia Medvedeva, who had probably long felt uneasy with secondary level style of teaching, and longed for university-like freedom, plus a coming-of-age crisis, plus the silver medal (where she was quite unfair in her "you let her win" but I can so much understand her feelings at the moment), found such a relief at TCC, she really needed it, she had more than a bad year and I believe, from what Brian Orser hinted and not only from her first results, that at first she may have "abused" this freedom by not listening to everything, but Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson understood it and let her a bit, before retaking everything and now we start seeing the results. I have never liked her skating until this season, I confess, while I like so much Alina Zagitova's, Alena Kostornaia's, Anna Scherbakova's (who keeps getting better skating skills, her flaw, plus adjusting to her growth spurt last summer of course; such a balletic skater), even Alexandra Trusova's fierceness. I was very glad Brian Orser made her write a public expression of gratitude towards Team Tutberidze, I didn't know him before (as a coach; I was still watching a bit of skating on my mother's shoulder when he competed and I liked him) and it gave me a very good opinion of him. Daniil Gleichengauz has already expressed as openly as could be what a dream it would be for them to choreograph something for Yuzuru Hanyu, I am sure they conceive many choreos for him in their dreams. I am sure too, they would in now way be so directive towards such a legitimately independant mind as they are towards the pupils they make progress, rather the opposite; and they may very well show his way of working as an example to their pupils, as he is to TCC trainees. As to Rika Kihira, I found she already had grace, poise, elegance, though smallish jumps (which I read to be technically perfect, I am not able yet to see jump technique) with little flow and not so much expression for "the post-Yuzuru generation". But the way she improved this season, in height, length of jumps, in skating skills and in expressiveness, I found astoundishing and they show a strong character. I hope, now she seems to have recovered from her injury, she will be rewarded as she deserves at Worlds. But Eteri girls may have recovered from their growth-related underrotations, so competition will be fierce. And thank you Crow, for your explanation!
  8. I am so sorry I cannot get Music with Wings from either source here, nor on Youtube. Generally speaking, I cannot access Youtube videos here but normally I can find them directly on Youtube. Maybe this message should go on the technical problems thread?
  9. Yes, I am so grateful to Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson, who have always respected his personality, his needs. A domineering coach may have harmed him much. And a too complying one may not have brought him to the technical mastery he has now? Even with "a bit less" he would be wonderful (he was wonderful in R&J 1 and even before) yet it would be a loss.
  10. Certainly, for instance his very attitude towards Pooh-san, no non-dominant would have dared to show it; and it is in itself, the considerate attitude of a sort of elder brother or parent. From a Japanese person, the present culture in the country being to avoid at any cost any singularity, I suppose it means even more. And when my husband, who really has no interest in any body expression, saw him skating (SCI Parisienne Walkways), his very first comment was about this character. (My husband's character being exactly Mr Knightley's, an older Mr Knightley now ;-).)
  11. He obviously is. I mean dominant, not domineering, which many people tend to mingle. Protective, supportive, and just glorious. We see him more "cute" than "in charge" because he is a "late maturing man" (though in many respects, he was always much wiser than most boys of same age) and we have seen a child, then a teenager, only now he is becoming (or has just become) a man. Take your sunglasses, guys, we must adapt. ;-)
  12. (Out of topic) A striking example of this despise of theoricians towards purely clinical research, is the Dr Bouchardat (who was MD and doctor in pharmacy, and head of the pharmacy department of one of the two main French hospitals, president of the Imperial Academy of Medicine) diet against diabetes, he published his works in 1875 after 40 years of purely clinical research, showing type II diabetes could be cured by some weeks or months of a specific diet, while theoricians were debating about an "all milk" or an "all potatoes" diet to slow down diabetes. These years "official" research discovers the accuracy of each and every of his commendations, but still there is no modern clinical survey of what his diet can bring people with type 2 diabetes. After all he was just a clinician? Who cares about clinicians? Molière was already furious about this attitude (which killed so many in his time) and I am much less gifted than him. Sorry for the rant.
  13. For Canadian-English speakers, what can Scott Russel mean by T-Dog?
  14. Do you think he really uses no skin care at all, with the aggression of the cold etc? I had already noticed how his skin seemed perfect, and the way he sweats after his programs show it even more. Usually seeing somebody sweat is not that pleasant, but with him, it is a beauty.
  15. The impression I get is Gailhaguet system for granted reelection was to tell them they would be let do whatever abuse they wanted as long as he would be president of the FFSG. I must say this is just an impression, linking the elements we have.
  16. Given the feuds between some of these skaters' coaches, I wonder how they will do?
  17. Agree. And I like very much Alexandra Trusova. But she is one of the two skaters who worry me most about incorrect use of PCs : how can her coaches motivate her to get better component quality if she has nearly nothing to expect in scores? She already seems most motivated by jumps and all that is daring, she needs at least to be able to expect low PCs if she doesn't deserve better, and high ones if she does. Though puberty may change her in that respect, I hope so at least.
  18. Thank you so much! What a wonderful interview! I have only seen a third of it, but they entered so quickly in the deepest of the essence or performance, which is the subject. And what (indirect but unmistakable) compliments from the actor to the skater!
  19. A "radical proposal"? When one see how GOEs and PCS are attributed today, regardless of the rules, what can we expect with a new change of rules?
  20. Can he skate anything without "killing" masses of fanyus? ;-)
  21. Thank you! I used to have an early CD (stolen a few years ago) and there was a VHS released in 1986 or 1987? (not sure), only in Japan, which Deutsche Gramophon have officially put on Youtube lately. I don't think he has recorded the Ballades since, but he does play them in concert from time to time.
  22. Oh, thank you Flutterby, that's great information.
  23. Well, I don't know how it will interfere, but the great organizer of the opening and closing ceremonies is Mansai Nomura, aka Abe no Seimei in Onmyoji, whom Yuzuru Hanyu consulted to understand the part before skating his Seimei program. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mansai_Nomura
  24. I really don't think so. (Except these few steps of Moonwalk last gala.) Why not Sing Sing Sing? ;-) To be honest, I should like him to do Nathan Chen's program to show how easy it would be to him to do just crossover and minimalist elements. But of course, he would never do so. It would be unfeeling for Nathan Chen himself. But a good lesson to judges and a few others. I would also like something new with other skaters (preferably, not invited to skate to this "award ceremony" but who can guess who will be?)
