When I see how Yuzuru Hanyu, after having being a tricked younger brother to Javier Fernández and a tricking older brother to Shoma Uno (how could Shoma Uno even survive the "proposal" scene? ;-) ), is a kind and attentive, somehow paternal older brother to Yuma Kagiyama and Shun Sato, I think either of them would make a creditable Mowgli, Yuzuru Hanyu being in turn Baloo and Bagheera, for an exhibition program. I like so much Disney Jungle Books music, I don't think Yuzuru Hanyu has ever skated to such jazzy accents, and believe all of them would do wonders. I hope I don't shock you? Apart from Pooh-San, would you have an idea of a joint exhibition program with Yuzuru Hanyu? I don't even know if it is allowed.

They mustn't be the only ones who dream of it. (For Alexandra Trusova, I am not sure at all, I'll admit.) I don't think any of them can reach such a level, but he is such an inspiration, I am sure he has a great influence on all of them. Particularly visible with Alena Kostornaia of course. Who is only 16, by the way.

Daniil Gleichengauz is perfectly aware of the hierarchy on this matter too (as well as Stéphane Lambiel) : By the way, this time it was "too much" for Brian Orser! ;-)

It was at last NHK Trophy :

Oh, it's them! Well, I didn't know their names, but I had seen this program. ;-)

There must have been that. But maybe too, people sensible and/or not too blind inside USFS may have wanted to "test" the respective popularities of the skater they have so desperately pushed for years (and who lost to Kaitlin Hawayek/Jean-Luc Baker, whose name I didn't even know, even before the test was shown to Planet Hanyu) and of the skater they try to denigrate by all means; and why not, the respective popularities of the former, and of another, with less quads and more deservedly earned PCs. I tend to think, for some who accepted it, and even maybe for those who conceived it, the final contest was supposed to be between the two former. May it open some eyes at USFS? As to Russia, I think Team Tutberidze, with the little power they have in their federation, cannot be clearer as to who is the GOAT. Daniil Gleichengauz nearly cried when Yuzuru Hanyu deigned to hug him, and Alena Kostornaya said openly he was considered "a god" among them.

"I like to answer people's expectations". As far as I am concerned, he nearly always exceeds them. HE may not be glad of some, I won't say I don't mind, I am sad when he is sad, and at the same time, we know he needs that dissatisfaction to always push his own limits of perfection. But I love these performances nevertheless. Each different, as already said. What is there in common between quiet, mastered Origin at SCI, and tense, furious one at GPF after the robbery of SP scores? I mean, not "only" the cut and the layout were different. It was simply another world, another Yuzuru Hanyu, and in a very few weeks it had grown on me to the point of becoming my preferred version. Maybe because he was no more playing a part in it? Maybe because he transcended there his own musicality and all that had ever been done in figure skating? Or because I'm a pervert and I find him beautiful in his angry reproach, and self-reproach for doing so? But Yuzuru Hanyu didn't miss it. ;-) Thank you very much for the video!

I am just understanding this morning, that even Belgian border to Germany is likely to close within a short time, so we won't be able to see our family in France for Easter as planned, and though so sorry for you, you brought me some relief.
-
Also for clubs and skating schools (like Khrystalny in Moscow)? Or just to general public, as she may be now in Russian rinks?
-
First act of Nathalie Péchalat as FFSG President : all skating rinks are to close from tonight, even for clubs. So, nothing to expect at home for Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, already deprived of ice in Montréal. https://ffsg.org/mesures-exceptionnelles/ (I can translate if somebody want?)
-
I wonder if she will come back to Russia, have two weeks quarantine (at home?), then try to find ice time in a Russian rink, or rather stay in Canada. If Canadian rinks are really to reopen in three weeks, I don't know if it would be good. But is it unlikely that they stay shut longer?

Sorry for your uncle, I hope he will pass it well, as well as his girlfriend. Heart problems seem to be the worse, for this coronavirus, worse even than respiratory conditions. As to Yuzuru Hanyu, I was trying to see positive things, I thought that he probably had no proper hanami for years, that sakura had started blooming yesterday in Tokyo (bur there is snow) and that they would start blooming from 24th in Sendai. I checked there was no restriction for him to enter Japan (or back to Canada later, but of course there is no warranty for then). Of course he would certainly impose himself severe precautions, but he would certainly be able to go out (in lesser crowded places) and enjoy flowers and fresh air. And even, as rinks are still open for members, and I have little doubt he is still a member of Sendai's, he may be able to do some basic training there (though there seem to be no off-ice equipment). I think all aircraft are disinfected between each flight, and there may be very few passengers on each flight, lessening the risks.
-
I hope so too. He could also mean Yuzuru Hanyu may land Nessie once or, more likely a few times, then go back to a "more efficient" program, point-wise. Particularly, if he tries a quad-quad (or a quad-euler-quad, or a quad-loop-quad) or even a quint (not next season I suppose). There too, he is the only one who can do so "now". And we will still have the most beautiful of triple axels, even more delayed and with always wonderful, incredibly difficult entries (can you imagine, a delayed triple axel???)
-
I meant, including staff. Yes, Yuzuru Hanyu is the most apt of all top-level skaters to bear no ice-time, provided he has the right off-ice training device. Yet it is likely to damage his skating. He must be very sadly remembering the closure times he has already endured. :-(
-
Yes but they are just a few tens of people, like a large family, and always working together? Plus they can avoid much physical contact, direct and indirect.
-
I hope it doesn't mean closing the ring and Team Orser training! :-o
-
How sad for him, and for the many affected! I suppose the closure of his rink was not imposed by government, but rather decided by the rink to save costs while general public couldn't pay to attend?

The same with Anna Shcherbakova. I like Alexandra Trusova's fire, I am glad to see her in championships, but she doesn't really have a style yet, while Anna Shcherbakova is so balletic — ant it is what I prefer, although Yuzuru Hanyu would make me love every style he skates in (or Alina Zagitova street dance, or Alena Kostornaya modern-jazz). But those strokes... Skaters of the past had to fight against bumps and puddles, they couldn't have that fantastic glide which makes (so few) contemporary skaters so pleasant. I am very ignorant of technique, quite new to watching figure skating, but the seemingly effortless glide is really something that "jumps to my eyes", contrary to edge (though I am sensitive to real turnout vs knee and ankle fake turnout in ballet, so it may come). I know Eteri Tutberidze is not really allowed time before results (like Brian Orser's 18 months, which is already very short), and she takes pupils already "grown up" (like him), plus how to motivate Alexandra Trusova on skating skills? She won't get as many more PCs than jumping another jump, she won't get a dog from her parents either (like when she landed her first 3A). I hope at least, Anna Shcherbakova will, in spite of the jump race : it would be such a pity to see her talent wasted. She seems to have already progressed from last season. Alena Kostornaya said in an interview that she had been taught to glide very early (she started skating at 4, because her doctor, after a few falls from trees, advised her parents to send her to skating, "to learn to fall"), and her teacher made her work really very much on it. Bless this teacher! (and whoever taught Yuzuru Hanyu to glide)

I definitely think he'll have two new programs. But I think too, we will be able to enjoy wonderful recyclings (and, as Rockstaryuzu, I think Seimei 3 will be part of it, unless he does it in shows but as there will probably not be any this summer...) for exhibitions.
-
Elected by the same caciques who had supported Gailhaguet for so long, and been supported by him... Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron support her though... I don't know what to think.

2020/2021 Season Program Announcements
SitTwizzle replied to sallycinnamon's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I must say, being French and having (though liking it at first) heard "Je suis malaaade" sung sooo many times by Serge Lama wherever I would go; then, some years later, hearing the come-back of this overused song, sang by Lara Fabian whose voice I happen not to like, and with similar insistence, even Daria Usacheva's grace and elegance couldn't save it. Glad it is over, I am sure I will like her next season's programs.
