  1. I don't really catch their meaning. Is he supposed to represent a fast driver seeing a dog on the way?
  2. Fine! I had just re-watched this program yesterday, quite underrated in my opinion but this is maybe because I love ballet, and such an interpretation as his (upper body, head and arms) would have thrilled me from a principal dancer, so from a skater, and such a young skater, and culturally so far from "Hungarian" character dance, it is hard to believe and...
  3. Well, if it were not for him, there would simply be waaay less spectators. And each and every skater is "free" to become as good as Yuzuru Hanyu. It is not as if he was loved that much purely because he is "cute" or thinks like that, as far as I am concerned it is because he is so much better than the others, that he managed to make a trump of inherent handicaps of figure skating*, and to invent a new form of dance, and it is wonderfully beautiful, and such things don't happen often in a life. So, maybe not all fanyus are "authentic fans of figure skating", one can be merely drawn by the magic of his skating, but even these often come to discover more about figure skating and may love it, plus he clearly influences so many skaters in the best way, and it is so pleasant to watch them, to see the huge progresses, at least with singles, to see promising novices, juniors and new seniors growing... with different levels of competence/accuracy. Why should all figure skating public be dilettante? Why couldn't they be casual viewers, and diffuse a liking of the sport which can in turn bring other people to like it or to love it and even to practice it? The more, the merrier (well, the scarier sometimes, of course.) * A bit like... (Sorry for those who felt offended by the anime.)
  4. I believe there's a huge difference between rooting for a particular skater (or two, or more) and disrespecting the others! Even presence and applauds are hardly optional, booing is a shame.
  5. I don't very much, either. For me it just means she doesn't have Ari Zakarian as an agent, and as I suspect him to have something to do with Evgenia Medvedeva's recent unfortunate communication, I am extremely glad she does not. Well, we already knew it in 2018 with the FaOI affair (which was of more consequence in my opinion) but this confirms it for 2020.
  6. I don't know state by state, but US have recently increased the daily tests from 400.000 to nearly 650.000, an increase of some 60% in tests. So an increase of around 40% in the total numbers of positive cases found, rather means less real cases (as the rate of positive cases lowers, yesterday "only" 6.75%), and an adequate response to the epidemics, intensive testing being generally crucial to address it. Though (but I'm not an epidemiologist) this doesn't mean the disease have already become an endemics either. It is on the way.
  7. Well, I am perfectly equally (un-)supportive of any football team (except the team with most supporters where I am because they tend to be more noisy when their favourite team wins). I cannot say the same with skaters. And it is not because it is a sport, with all the personal partiality it may imply. (And of course, the objective differences in attainment.) It is also because it is now an art, and in art, though some people can be equally good in different ways (thus generally pleasing each of us more or less because of personal preferences), most often they are not equally good. There are skaters with very good artistic sense, and/or great performers, but honestly, who can be seriously pretended to reach Yuzuru Hanyu's ankles, on an artistic level? Or, say, his waist, performance-wise? It is also political correctness that would wish us to pretend all are equally good artistically, which is objectively untrue. I don't like Prince that much, but though (like in Let's go crazy) he is often on a recitative tone, it wouldn't come to my mind to downgrade his artistic talent to that of all the rappers I have heard to this date. This is just an epiphenomenon of a more general problem, the distortion of the word tolerance. The real meaning of the word, in its (literal) mechanics sense as well as in its (figurative) usual sense, is to let go something undesirable (on objective or subjective grounds) for the sake of common good. This leads to harmony. And implies in no way to bar opinions. The distorted meaning of the word, is to pretend everything is equally good inside a "window" (not unlike Overton window) and forbidding any critics or expression of preference/dislike inside this window, and to pretend everything is equally bad outside this window, forbidding any appreciation or a particular success inside a globally bad experience etc, or even exploring the causes and consequences and extent of badness of a "taboo" subject or comparison between problematic situations. (A form of manichaeism, by the way.) In this system of distorted tolerance, all skaters must be equally good unless they happen to express something unpleasant (as if a skater was supposed to be a philosopher, some can be stupid or prejudiced on some subjects, we can well say it and reproach it to them but tolerate — real tolerance — because nobody's perfect and a skater's job is to skate, of course the level of tolerance may be a bit lower for a former skater who is now a skating reporter as he is supposed to have reflected on some serious subjects relating to the sport, but once again nobody's perfect or in full agreement with our/the world's opinions) and then they become just trash. In this system no skater can be better than another, and I wonder why there are still scores. Ah yes, to reflect the success of the day, that is the number of popped jumps or falls. But after all, they have worked so much... I don't think this was politics because I was just trying to explain what may have prompted somebody to believe all skaters had to be equally supported, but if it is deemed to be so, please delete what you want.
  8. Oh, thank you @FlyingCamel, and thank you again AxelSandwich! I had never questioned my presumption of Origin 2 costume stemming from Origin 1 costume. How wrong! And it is not surprising that Satomi Ito should be inspired by the Spectre de la Rose (Spirit of the Rose) costume : its creator, Léon Bakst, was maybe the greatest ever ballet costume designer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Léon_Bakst Here is the original costume, displayed at the Vaganova Academy Museum in Saint-Petersburg : https://artsmeme.com/2013/11/28/nijinsky-spectre-costume-pink/ I suppose its colours have slightly muted under the light, although it is protected most of the time (the museum is, I believe, on-invitation only). And here is the costume on the creator of the part, Nijinski (black-and-white photo) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Spectre_de_la_rose#/media/File:Vaslav_Nijinsky_in_Le_spectre_de_la_rose_1911_Royal_Opera_House.jpg There is no movie of Nijinski dancing this ballet, but I really believe Nikolay Tsiskaridze and Zhanna Ayupova (who are now rector and artistic director of Vaganova Academy) perfectly seized all its dimensions, visual and musical æsthetics and history. I had spoken of his ballet in The Music Talk, but as a parallel with Haru yo, Koi! not Origin.
  9. Here's his struggle to get these 3A : @sweetwater , could this 4T + 3A + 3A + 3A sequence be this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynbiujIygL4 Is suppose not, as there is no single Axel at the end?
  10. Omgosh I was totally thinking about them! COVID really sucked for them because Japan stopped sending packages overseas, especially to the US, for a long long time...and that was the nail in the coffin. I really loved Ichiroya -- they were super knowledgeable experts in vintage/antique Japanese textiles, clothing, and art... and very honest, hardworking, respectful people. I think other places have cheaper items but Ichiroya's is always the most well-described. It's definitely a huge loss @yuzuangel @Sombreuil & @Lunna Sorry, I went to the site and read the closure notice, in fact the only orders they don't take anymore are Kimonotte (new, synthetic) made-to-order items. All other items are available (and mostly on sale) until the end of July. In saying this I am afraid of advertising for a private company, but at the same time I had written wrong information and I thought I had to rectify it. By the way, I had sent them a link to page 5784 of General Yuzuru Chat and their reply was very kind.
  11. A very short video of the discovery by Yuzuru Hanyu, of Toshl's "rocker Pooh" T-shirt : https://yumeyume111.up.seesaa.net/image/ezgif-2-03f4d1434cbb.mp4 I found it here, where there is a good many photos, gifs and short videos : http://blog.livedoor.jp/happy10dayo-sanpo12/archives/1077501944.html
  12. As the idea had never occurred me, I searched yuzuru + hanyu + yukata on my engine and got unfortunately many Pinterest results, but also these : One with Javier Fernández (on a not-so-pleasant page, onehallyu.com) : Here, he's even a model for a yukata! I guess many would like to know what is this catalogue but I don't know. https://aliajackson.tumblr.com/post/123932852931/the-next-top-model Here many photos, also with Evgeni Plushenko, Javier Fernández, Miki Ando... http://blog.livedoor.jp/happy10dayo-sanpo12/archives/1005278110.html And here with Shoma Uno (with details about the yukata he's wearing) : https://ameblo.jp/m-heartpia/entry-11890423624.html Your wallet tells you thank you. Your wallet's nutritionist may feel relieved if it was about to starve, or annoyed if it tended to be to fat by lack of travel to see Yuzuru Hanyu in person.
  13. Can I take it for me too? A yukata suits him so well! Is this photo recent?
  14. But it seems they stop counting if somebody watch it more than a number of times on a given day, or if they watch less than 30 seconds, or if they seem to watch "illogical" things. https://www.tubics.com/blog/what-counts-as-a-view-on-youtube/ I don't totally agree with this though : "So, don’t make the mistake of thinking you can just get your friends or team members to watch your videos over and over again, because the answer is, you just can’t." Because if a dozen people watch it four times each, and the same the next day, Youtube will give it a good score as a "trending" video and show it higher to potential viewers who have typed the keywords, and there can be a snowball effect. Clearly, this doesn't apply if you have Yuzuru Hanyu in your keywords, as anyway your video will somehow trend "alone" with people searching Yuzuru content on Youtube. To the point that some make awful, uninteresting videos with these keywords and an intentionally poor content, just as clickbait.
  15. Welcome on PlanetHanyu! I'm somehow new too and enjoy it quite a lot. And I am still far from having seen all the wealth of it in the so many threads.
  16. Wasn't it mostly because of his sinusitis? And I was under the impression he had a great affection for his coach, and liked to work with him. I hope he will establish a good relationship with Alexei Mishin.
  17. And of the two costumes, they chose the free program one... I liked the transformation, most in fact because she loved it so much. But her Perfume costume was a beauty. @Lunna I don't know why, I tend to think the "media" consulted were not Max Ambesi, British or Spanish Eurosport, or Tracy Wilson etc. And all that politicking... — Just as it "ought" to be, after all, with such promoters.
  18. Why? I am pleased but less surprise. Though, now, I would like more from them about him.
  19. You seem to forget Alexandra Trusova's new coach has Ari Zakarian as his agent; and I wouldn't be surprised, now "you suggest it", if Alexandra Trusova's new agent were the same Ari Zakarian...
  20. It may be a commercial for Uniqlo, but it is Javier Fernández on rollers.
  21. For July 2d, there is of course the 2018 People's Honor award? https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2018/07/02/figure-skating/two-time-olympic-gold-medalist-yuzuru-hanyu-receives-peoples-honor-award/ These three videos were taken after the July 16th, 2012 Prince Ice World in Tokyo, the last is mostly Daisuke Takahashi and two others but Yuzuru Hanyu appears a little. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0ObgTmAALo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hAQ_ccvIyY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdtYL8ZT0PI I tend to think this one too is from the same day, but I'm not sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcnMgkBYBCQ But I don't manage to date with certainty this one. From Suzuki Arakawa's site, we know the dates for this show were 13-16 July, and from the date of posting this, and the previous video, by the same youtuber, I would say 15th is a bit more likely than 13th or 14th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfVSlKpZPXU And much, but much much later, on November 7th (it is not a drought period but it may change from GP trophies) 2011, Kanako Murakami celebrating her 17th birthday with Nobunari Oda and Yuzuru Hanyu. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxSc9VsOU7Q Edit : it was PIW 2012, not 2011, I am really sorry because he also did 2011 PIW (and 2014) so it was misleading.
  22. Short Program has passed the 130.000 mark, but Free Skating is shy of 180.000. One detail I had not noticed at the end of last group practice for free, the smiling gaze (3:25:36) between Brian Orser and Kikuchi-san, the former with a hand on Pooh-san... No risk of another time deduction!
  23. About the Planet's Twitter calendar... 29/06/19 (it was still 28/06 "in the West") : last release of Photogenic Sendai featuring... Big queue to get one. 29/06/19 (but early 30th in Japan) : back to TCC. Released 30/06 but it is about July, so maybe it would be more convenient for 01/07? Yuzuru Hanyu as animated picture for ANA's July calendar, on a Hawaii background, with a turtle announcing maybe the painting of ANA's three A380 which fly this route.
  24. Without sleeves is even better, but eight years ago he was young and had less muscle, and one don't see the part under his knees. Warning : these photos are well known but can still cause a shock.
