I disagree that the video was done in bad taste. But to each their own.

If It Wasn't for Yuzuru, I'd Never Have....
rockstaryuzu replied to rockstaryuzu's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
I love where this thread is going. One more: Without Yuzuru, I would never have realized how deep my own thirst for excellence is. There's a whole story that goes with that statement that I'm not ready to tell right now. I only want to say that I'm so happy to have found this part of my character back - it was lost for many years, buried under a whhholllllleeee lot of bad experiences and negativity. Now that I have it back, I'm going to use it well. -
Hmm...I wonder what this means for his ankle....
-
Also, they love Brian, Tracy, &co, so they strive to give fair coverage to their athletes.
-
Well they're not perfect :), and thank you for understanding.
-
That photo of him is so beautiful, but it still makes me sad. I keep thinking about the crutches lying by his feet while he posed.
-
Apology accepted, and please understand I wasn't trying to single you out. I just thought that perhaps folks didn't realize, and wanted to let them know.

@ruruzest Didn't we see it at ACI, too? Yuzu was being so gracious at the practices to all the other competitors.
-
I was looking at his Ina Bauer the other day and wondered how many ballet dancers envy his turn out. It's amazing. Yuzu could easily be a dancer, for sure.

About the CBC. There's something, I , as a Canadian, have been really surprised by since I became a Yuzu fan on the internet, and that is the level of sheer anger and hatred directed by non-English-speaking fans towards the CBC. I watch the CBC for sports all the time, and their coverage, while often held back by their lack of money (because they are government-funded), has always been positive, honest, straightforward, and as complete as they can make it. They're doing a really big, really difficult job with not enough money, staff or resources. And they don't just cover sports; they're a full network with many, many responsibilities. They cover everything from local village news in the remote North to international wars and everything in between. They may not be perfect in their coverage of Yuzuru, but they are doing their best. They do not hate him; in fact he gets remarkably positive coverage from them (probably due to Kurt being a fan), and they do not try to diss him or put him down. I have seen so many posts by foreign fans knocking the CBC down because they didn't like the coverage, but not one of those people ever stops to consider that maybe their translation is bad, and that they are not correctly understanding what the CBC has said. Or they fail to realize that the CBC is, first and foremost, a news organization - they have to report the truth, even when said truth may be inconvenient for some. It profoundly hurts me that the CBC, a gem of Canadian life, part of the fabric of Canada, gets ripped to shreds over nothing, when they don't deserve it. As for this piece about Yuzu's fans, and the retweet thing: the CBC was being complimentary. They didn't have to do a piece on Yuzu's fans at all, they could have ignored their existence. But instead, they noticed that Yuzu's fans are an interesting news story on their own, and decided to interview some of them. There was no insult or mockery in any of the coverage; it was a gentle and kindly-worded article that I found sweet and interesting. Because it was intended to be sweet and interesting. Those who are offended by this, that is your choice, but there is nothing in this coverage to take offense at. It was NOT meant that way. AS for the twitter post/ retweet: Either RT or don't, your choice. But don't think it was some cynical cheap trick to take advantage of fans for fame. The CBC has far better things to do, than that. As a Canadian Yuzu fan, I'm very offended by how many non-Canadians hate my beloved CBC over nothing. Please stop bashing them. Thank you.

P&G knew what they were doing when they picked him. -

Don't be shy, share yours! (If you have one). -
That actually seems like quite a lot of food. Cooking for him would be a full time job. Also, note how little sugar it all has. Probably why his skin is good, too.

Try rugby instead: The title says 'female footballer' but she's actually a Team USA rugby sevens player who broke her nose during a play, then got right back into the defensive line. Ronaldo is a multimillionaire footballer.

Also, if it wasn't for Yuzu, I wouldn't have rediscovered Brian and Tracy or had a chance to see how someone builds a great sports program from the ground up like they did at TCC... and I wouldn't have rediscovered Kurt or Elvis either, or paid any attention to Patrick, Tessa&Scott, Kevin Reynolds, Keegan, or the rest of the team. And I certainly would not have discovered the joys of Shoma quotes. -
The trouble with Jack's article, IMO, is that rather than being a reporting of facts, it's an editorial. Jack, please return to journalistic objectivity. We know you love Yuzuru, but you're paid to be a journalist, and that's not the same as being a fan. And by the way, anyone who follows both soccer and rugby will understand why Jack has such an opinion about Yuzu's toughness. I think it would have been more to the point to note that even with a sprained ankle, none of his competitors could hold a candle to Yuzu.

Here's another one: If not for Yuzuru, I'd never have realized how much better it is to see competitions live. I'd never have realized how much I take skating for granted because I grew up with it. I'd never have found myself explaining the sound the blade makes on ice to someone from Hawaii who didn't grow up with winter, which made me realize afresh how wonderfully diverse this planet is. -
That's got to be a first

That's so interesting about the weight training, because I do that too! And every time I feel like complaining to my trainer that the workout is too hard, I think of Yuzu skating at COC14 and I stop whining. -
Since we're all feeling, to put it mildly, a bit shell-shocked after Yuzu's rollercoaster Rostelecom experience, and to take our minds off just how very upsetting it is that he's injured yet again, I thought it might be nice to take some time and think about all the things Yuzu has been the catalyst for in our lives, and share them here. Being his fan has taken satellites around the world and sparked friendships we would never have had otherwise, for example. So, what's your 'Without Yuzu, I'd Never Have..' thing? It can be silly or serious or sweet or surprising, or all 4. Whatever you feel like sharing. I'll go first: Without Yuzu, I'd never have learned to recognize the Japanese national anthem from the first three notes.
-
Perhaps because you can see some of the results of his hard work in this? It looks like he's been really hitting the weight room.

New FS requirement : chair hop with crutches. BV: 15 pts.

One of the interesting aspects of Yuzu is how much spiritual activity he's inspired in his fans.... I am Catholic and spent a good portion of last winter praying specific devotions for Yuzu's healing. There is no other athlete or public figure that has inspired me that way. If nothing else, it's an indication of just how pure his spirit is.
-
Yuzu will be the death of me, I swear...
-
Not only that, he realized right away too. By the time he got up from that fall, he was already counting and thinking and marking out where he'd place the elements of an alternate FS layout. I was actually really impressed with that.
