  1. He's not bad at the air guitar...when he's done with skating, maybe he could move on to this: https://www.airguitarworldchampionships.com/
  2. Actually, white xylitol reminds me of old-school jumpsuit-style men's FS costumes from the 80's, like Brian used to wear. It was never a good look on anyone, really...
  3. Yes, that's the one. It was probably so ridiculous that they had to laugh...just like us. And yes, I love pic #3.
  4. For me, the worst is that golden yellow ruffle-sleeved tropical monstrosity with the baggy khaki pants that he wore for that ice show. And even that has a silver lining, b/c he took off the sleeves for a jump battle with Javi and so we get buff sleeveless Yuzu doing 4S-3A...
  5. But think of all the opportunities to Yuzu-vangelize!
  6. Just left my local bookstore, and it's true, there was nothing.
  7. I can't find the link right now, but yesterday there was an opinion/editorial piece on TASS.ru discussing the decision and saying, if Google Translate got it correct, that the problem is really that the Russian federation doesn't have any official, written selection criteria for picking the team, just a process of voting among coaches and officials. So they could pick anyone they feel like, in essence. They're not obligated to send the national champion or anyone else for that matter.
  8. Of course they don't. If they even had that kind of money, there's other things they would spend it on.
  9. But you'd think the prominent Adam's apple would give it away....
  10. Of course he did, that's our Zu.
  11. 3 tries to get the age right, and the app still thinks he's a girl...wow
  12. Yeah, there's no way Roman looks 27...
  13. Glad to know Radio-Canada still does their fact-checking...just not in a timely fashion.
  14. I can relate!
  15. I'm wondering if it was a hack.
  16. I thought they might. I'm not the greatest in French, but when I read the original article, something seemed a bit off...not just that the content was wrong. I was wondering if it had been some kind of hoax. Guess not? Just a bad mistake.
  17. Every federation politicks with all the other federations. In a way that's what federations are for - how else, for example, are locations chosen to hold competitions? It only becomes a problem when there's blatant favoritism as a result. You said something entirely different than that, though. What you said was that individual coaches at the top level only get their jobs through dishonest means. And you implied that such was the case for Brian. And I'm telling you that not only is that not true, there's no way it could ever possibly be true for a Canadian coach. As for Gadbois, my understanding is, they don't go picking out skaters so as to have 'influence', but rather, that skaters come to them because they're that good at coaching. Which is the same for Brian , really. He's just that good at what he does. Anyway, I will stop now. We've derailed the thread far enough.
  18. Jason sounds like he's been totally bowled over by Yuzu too ...another honorary satellite maybe?
  19. This makes me foolishly happy.
  20. This is my point exactly. @hoodie axel : I was going to give you a sharp reply to your question, but thanks to @SparkleSalad 's timely post about avoiding nastiness, I thought better of it. However, please try to remember that in Canada, cheating and/or corruption in sport is looked down on and taken very seriously at all levels of sport, from little kids on the playground all the way up to the Olympics. There also isn't the kind of money and prestige in sports here that exists in other countries; the only sport in Canada that is that rich is hockey. So backroom dealing or 'influence' or whatever you want to call it - it doesn't happen here, not in the way you implied, because it would be seen as cheating.
  21. It would be the death of me!
  22. So... few...blurry...pixels....must...find....Yuzu!!! *dies sad, dehydrated cactus death*
  23. Not just part of the game - it's an important part of keeping your athlete feeling focused and confident. Imagine going into Worlds with a coach who was saying to the media "Well, you know she's not that great a skater, but thank God the federation saw the light of day and decided to support her out of politics so at least she has a shot" - what kind of performance would you produce as an athlete? All of you trashing Brian for saying the process by which Med got selected was 'fair', give your heads a shake. For one thing, he may not be fully aware of all the politics going on in the Russian federation; and for another, he knows full well that the federation has control over Zhenya's career as a skater, in terms of providing funding, etc. For him to criticize them at this juncture would be the height of stupidity and would sink Zhenya dead in the water at once. Who knows what he really thinks. But in public, he has to say nice things or his skater will suffer. And that would truly be unfair. And another thing: if you really think Brian's doing 'PR' for his skaters when he talks about them in interviews, you really don't understand journalism and interviews. All Brian is ever doing, in any of them, is answering questions that the interviewers ask. He coaches many different people, in all the same sport. If he talks about one, then it's only natural that others will come up on conversation because they're all at the rink together. That's not PR and saying that it is, is like saying that Brian does PR for Boitano, every time he talks about the Calgary Olympics and his own silver medal. I sometimes wonder if folks are watching the same interviews and reading the same articles that I'm reading, or if the meanings of them just get really, really lost in translation, or what. Because the wild misinterpretations there are of some the things Brian has said simply astound me.
  24. That's seriously not how it works here. In any sport. Well, maybe in hockey, but in any sport not played by teenage millionaires, no. There isn't enough money or prestige in Canadian amateur sport for that to be worthwhile
