  1. Thank you so much for sharing that. It must have been difficult to tell us about it. Yuzuru really does lift us up with his wonderful performances.
  2. I'm actually at peace with whatever Yuzu decides, whether to compete or to withdraw. He's the one who knows best his own body, what it can take, what it can't, and how to weigh the risks. He's not that pressurized teenager who feels like he can't speak up anymore. He's a man grown and running his own life. I trust that whatever decision he makes will be the correct one.
  3. I think that's what he did with the medal at Rostelecom last week, too. Trying to imagine him doing that with an IdF cheeseboard and I just.... can't.
  4. He's the only Canadian who's even close to being in the final and since they're funded by the Canadian government, part of their job is to make sure Canada's chances at sports events are mentioned...but they're doing this in a dumb way here. Just think of this as the CBC's way of guaranteeing that Yuzu recovers on time by counting their chickens before they're hatched. Because karma.
  5. Not yet, she's still trying to figure out how the skaters can jump and spin without getting dizzy.
  6. Speaking in generalities, there aren't very many Westerners that would be all that happy to be filmed like that either. And speaking as someone with strong religious beliefs myself, the kowtow picture is not just offensive but sacrilegious. I know it's meant to be a joke, it's just not something that should really be joked about. If Yuzu also has strong beliefs, which he seems to do, this picture actually has the potential to be very upsetting for him.
  7. I agree. These are the times we live in, though. Everyone's got to film everything, it seems.
  8. Thank you. I spent most of the day trying to stop her from doing things she wasn't supposed to yet, so at least she's full of energy. I suspect that if she and Yuzu were ever to meet and compare notes on how to recover from injury, they would have a lot in common. I definitely could have used a swan bag for her today! 😃
  9. I understand what you're saying. My concern with that photo was different. I thought that it might make Yuzu uncomfortable to see people bowing down to his image in worship, even as a joke. He seems to be a very spiritual person (frequents shrines anyway) and this might go against his beliefs.
  10. @PoohandYuzu Thanks for sharing your story! So wonderful that you could visit the shrine. I have one more: if it wasn't for Yuzu, I wouldn't have been able to keep my mother entertained today while she recovers from having a lumpectomy. Because I've shown her some of Yuzu's videos, she's now interested enough in figure skating that we could watch the IdF Men's SP livestream together. However, none of the skaters competing today impress her the way Yuzu does.
  11. Happy Thanksgiving, @ruruzest! And to all the other satellites celebrating today. I'm thankful for Yuzuru's existence, without which, none of us would have known how much of the things we think are impossible, are actually achievable.
  12. This is why satellites joke that Brian keeps losing his hair.
  13. No. I'm dropping this topic right here, because it's getting out of hand and wrecking this thread. I still can't see anything offensive about that video. Although you're all saying it was a mockery of Yuzu fans, to my eyes it was not. It was a simple fluff piece, maybe not so well researched. Those facial expressions that you're all complaining about are a normal part of communication here, and nothing to be offended by. And that's it, I'm done. I will say no more.
  14. That's so awesome! I hope the invigilator went out and watched a Yuzu video afterwards.
  15. I never once implied that it was Asians. I simply said 'non-English-speaking'. It's patronising to assume that only the Asian ones deliver these criticisms.
  16. Critique, yes. What I've seen goes far beyond critique though.
  17. You seem to be implying that they should just pretend something that happened, didn't. That's not how news organizations work. Now, I don't want to derail the thread any further, so I'm stopping. Think what you will. But people are wrong to ascribe malice to any aspect of CBC coverage of Yuzu or his fans. That's not the kind of organization it is.
  18. No, I 'm saying that it's a true fact that people cry over him. The 'not so good' is referring to other things. Like fans finding his family's house in Sendai and bothering the neighbors and such, as has happened in the past.
  19. The tweet was one small part of an entire video which was positive up til then.
  20. If that's true, then why is there such a negative reaction from Yuzu fans (I'm referring to the wider fandom here, not just the Planet)as soon as a news outlet says anything about them that isn't perfectly sunshine and roses, even though it's true? I perceive, although I may be mistaken, that there is a strong inclination amongst some fans to pretend that the negative stuff doesn't happen, or at least that it's not the 'real' fans that do it. You are, of course, perfectly free to think as you wish, but that is what I perceive.
  21. I knew there was a reason I liked Yagudin....🤣
  22. it's a simple fact that some Yuzu fans get emotional about him and cry. I don't see how you could write an honest news story about Yuzu fans and leave that part out. Why would covering it be considered 'in bad taste'? It's just being honest and truthful. The reality of the Yuzuru fandom is that, like any other human activity, there will be both good and and not so good. I see no point in hiding either one. What's in 'bad taste', to me, is trying to cover up or gloss over reality just because it's inconvenient. In any case, I don't see any mockery on CBC's part in this current video, and I haven't seen the other one. I have seen quite a bit of vitriol directed at the CBC by certain twitter accounts I follow, and it's really disturbing to witness.
  23. There's that, plus his health insurance is most likely in Japan.
