Oh that's a worry... but he's being sensible. 4CC matters more, and Worlds in Japan matters most. Both Yuzu and Shoma will be aware of that...

I think it worked both ways - Javi was richly rewarded for his generosity and flew higher and more brilliantly through what working with Yuzu did for him - but he couldn't have known that would happen, it's a tribute to both of them as sportsmen and gentlemen. Oh dear, I'm misting up again...

Hey, they couldn't fit any worse than that jacket he came swanning into the PC airport in.... (to be fair, I have suspicions that the Japanese Olympic team can be blamed, some of the stuff they put poor Shoma in....) By the way, it just occurred to me, this would be about the time last year - three weeks or so before PC - that Yuzuru actually started practicisng the jumps that he was taking to victory....

This is absolutely true. (Actually, I want him to send Japan - no, the entire skating and possibly sporting world - into a tizzy by going REALLY formal, and turning up his his brand new ultra-glorious hakama that he doesn't get nearly enough chances to wear anyway )

And in this case, it brought its own punishment... the hatred must have curdled in them as they watched him keep flying upwards to a place neither their favourites nor any other competitor - except maybe Javi, Yuzu's teammate and friend - nor the venom could reach.

Yuzu and Javi have always been something special but yes, the top flight of the men going into the 2018 Olympics was at once a cut-throat fight on ice and the most adorable brothersinarms mutual admiration society imaginable off. They set the tone 2016-18 and it was just so wonderful and heartwarming to see.

Sad but true. I know he hasn't left himself much time for hard training, but we should remember that these few weeks have been spent with the motherofalltraininglastminute champion (which he should have expected the minute he got back to the TCC)...

This video about 15-year-old Yuzu came up on my youtube page, not sure if it's been posted before. Such an adorable kiddie (how flustered he gets at the compliments!), but I couldn't help thinking - nine years ago? He does NOT look 9 years older now!!!
