Even if he turned up, the hakama (and I do mean THAT one, he surely would wear that if any as a compliment to the givers) is probably stored very very carefully in Japan and would have to be flown separately. On the other hand, trying to get a tuxedo that fits him....

It's hard to say, I wouldn't be surprised if most sportspeople know of it and its prestige very well - it's their industry, you are always more aware of these things in your own industry - but it's Yuzu, he seems to have tunnel vision and its never been awarded (or even nominated?) for a skater before so it may be off his very focused radar. The wording of the Laureus tweet and the timing is interesting., Trying not to get my hopes up (they are ALL worthy winners in this category) but the people running it may have a good idea by now....

Can I just share a video from last year that I adore? Nobu crying his eyes out at the end of Yuzu's short program, so sweet... it wasn't that he'd won because he hadn't yet, it was clearly personal, relief and joy that Yuzu was back, that he was healthy and well... His cheers and that single tear on Shuzo Matsuoka's cheek after Seimei also makes me all squishy emotional. Two of his great supporters there to see him come through is just... beautiful.

Wonderful timing.... it's nice to be reminded how much his own city and people appreciate him. He's earned their love, pride and respect both on and off the ice, he's still earning it, and I'm sure it means a lot to him.

I'm convinced that but for the accident, Yuzu would have smashed the FS record in Russia, and he's probably as surprised as anyone that it lasted as long as it did. Shoma has his major gold now, but may have damaged his chances at Worlds if the sprain doesn't clear up. Did I read correctly that both the US and Japan will have no judges in the men's there?
