I'll just say that I don't exactly agree with Neenah. Artistic Gymnastics takes elements of ballet. So in that sense ballet should be dance and sport by its very nature, too.

Injuries aside. And it shouldn't be unnecessary if it exists. It is unnecessary exactly because the countries treat it as such. My statement wasn't limited to Yuzuru anyway.

I want the Team Event to change. There can be an overall medal/trophy for the country, but the individual medals in the Team performances should be handed only to those who place in the top 3. There is no way Patrick Chan, Kaetlyn Osmond, Nathan Chen, Bradie Tennell, Mikhail Kolyada, and those weird wing people from Russia deserved medals (reputation judging on Chan's and Osmond's performances that got them to the top spots aside). And the Team Event needs to start making countries send their best. No reason for the weird wing people to be sent to the Team Event, and why Kolyada was sent to the LP instead of Aliev, and why Rippon was sent instead of Chen, why Tennell was sent at all, etc. etc.

You don't know? Well, the first reason is that the sport has "always" been more popular there. In other words, older audiences, that have more money to pay and attend events, unlike the relatively younger audiences in JPN, KOR, and CHN. The other reason is that the sport has "always" been more popular there. What I mean is that this is a western sport still, through and through. Sad, but true.

You won't have a problem. It will still be "the strongest fed wins".

Dancesport is a thing for ballroom. And there are grand prixs for ballet. But I get what you're saying. I think ID is the least sport-y discipline, and then add the fact that it's also somehow the least artistic at this point... I can't care less about it.

Best skater of all time at ____?
hoodie axel replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Jumps 1. 4Lz -- Boyang Jin 2. 4F -- meh, Nathan Chen if pressed. Hope someone comes up with an impressive one soon, if it must be assigned points. 3. 4Lo -- Yuzuru Hanyu 4. 4S -- Javier Fernandez 5. 4T -- Han Yan 6. 3A -- Ilya Kulik for the size, Yuzuru Hanyu for transitions, Midori Ito 7. 3Lz -- Brian Boitano (men), Tonya Harding (women) 8. 3F -- Midori Ito for women, Kurt Browning for men 9. 3Lo -- Midori Ito for women, Ilia Kulik? 10. 3S -- Midori Ito for women, Ilia Kulik again? 11. -3T combinations -- Yuna Kim for sheer consistency 12. -3Lo combinations -- Mao Asada, although I liked Wakaba Higuchi's 3Lz-3Lo that WinForPooh linked 12. 2A -- Midori Ito Spins 1. Layback spin -- Sasha Cohen, Alissa Csizny 2. Biellmann spin -- Denise Biellmann, Michael Christian Martinez for the men 3. Camel spin -- Michelle Kwan 4. Sit spin -- Lucinda Ruh 5. Spin variation -- Julia Lipnitskaya's Biellmann, or Alisa Lozko's Biellmann, or Adelina Sotnikova's upside down catchfoot camel, Caroline Zhang's Pearl, Nathalie Krieg's two-handed haircutter. Components 1. Choreography -- Michelle Kwan 2. Presentation -- Michelle Kwan, Stephane Lambiel 3. Skating skills -- Yuka Sato, by a margin and a half 4. Transitions -- Probably Matt Savoie 5. Interpretation -- Lu Chen and Michelle Kwan I'd say, although points to Kurt Browning for creativity Adding 6. Performance -- Alexei Yagudin Other 1. Spirals -- Sasha Cohen, Michelle Kwan 2. Step sequence -- Kurt Browning 3. Costumes -- eh. Post 2010 Yuna Kim? -
There's also absolutely nothing Romeo and Juliet about Orzel's Romeo and Juliet.

Wow. No.
-
No, you're right. The hydroblading was nonsensical, the footwork was a bunch of turns and tricks with no character, the split jump before the Lutz was useless. It's basic CoP "look at everything I can cram in!" choreo set to some jazz music with some decent movement ability.

2018/19 GP Assignments
hoodie axel replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Oh for sure. In every way, it would be easier to tell all these athletes they're not, actually, participating in a sport. The ones who stay will have my respect, but so will the ones who leave. -

At least they didn't already tell him his PCS won't exceed 35 for the SP until he switches countries? -
What is defined as the take off mark?
-
LOL so he got it anyway.

Wow, sharing with a friend. We had a conversation about how THAT would have looked like "if" forums were there, but guess we don't have to imagine anymore. @yuzuangel how can I find a Yagudin vs Plushenko one?

I'm not exactly sure what happened... People were saying he could do very well at, and maybe win, 2022 last season, without any news of coaching change... Then when Orser's camp was announced in the summer, most were thinking it was just temporary... But now he's not going permanently, he suddenly lacks drive?
-
All those evil Yuzu and evil Med stories were wrong. It's evil Boy who stops Orser doing his job in Toronto on his whim and fancy. I hope it's his own decision (though reading the rumours, who even knows) -- and in that case I wish him the best.

I did hear China doesn't yet have a particularly strong Singles program (yet). I wonder if this is part of why. S/H have phenomenal PCS potential, but that hasn't ever been true for any singles skater, man or woman. Maybe they need to do what they did with Pairs, but they have experience there in Yao Bin and S/Z. Maybe that's why they are collabing with TCC -- to establish better programs, even if that means sending them to foreign coaches via selection processes.
-
There isn't a program here. Much like all the other girls there, really. Not exactly sure how someone can choreograph programs with no concept, such as Gleikhenghauz did for her.
-
Stop Daniil Gleikhenghauz 2k18.

Welllll it could work. The cuts have to be GOOD though. -
No, yeah, that's what I meant. The choreography and the style of movement is kind of reminiscent of how Browning works with the people he choreographs with. And Lori Nichol helped with the ease of movement there, I'd assume.
