Apparently Miyahara is training the 3A.

I LOVE their LP, at least the first half of it for now. There are moments of choreographic wonder there, like the death spiral (which naturally starts slowing down towards the end) being used to highlight the music as it comes slowing down to a halt. One of my main complaints with P/C's choreography to the the first section of S/H's music here was that (probably due to the requirements of ID), the ebb and flow was interpreted more through their edges, when the exchange of lead-follow would have really made the concept shine... S/H don't change the way they lead-follow, but they use changes of direction to highlight this ebb and flow at points. It's an incredible effect.

Funny how this apparently is too hard to get for some.

Out of interest? I know how to do heights, but not distances.

Does anybody know how the distance for ice scope is calculated?

The 2014 Patrick Chan and Yuzu Situation

No, the choreography wasn't that great. Very little attention to effect, pacing, form, and purpose.- 105 replies

The 2014 Patrick Chan and Yuzu Situation
hoodie axel replied to theblingmonster's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Oh, this popped up when I happened to be lurking. Cool. Patrick Chan had very good skating skills. Nice spin positions and centering, although nothing phenomenal apart from that. His jumps were fine, he had very nice triples and a good 4T. His 3A was ehhhh. Everything else was lacking. His performance and interpretation abilities were merely "good" for someone the judges chose to make a three-time world champion (he deserved it all of once), his choreography was often shallow, and he skated with very little depth. He was utterly limited artistically, and improved very, very little throughout his career. I think all the current top men show better ability/potential in those departments than Chan did towards the end of his career. Not sure what was up with him, but I also really don't care. That being said, he had a better LP choreographically than Yuzuru at Sochi, and had he gone clean, would have deserved a larger gap in PCS and the win. ETA: Oh, and he can stuff it. Glad he's gone.- 105 replies

Is he doing two balletic ones, perhaps? He's a ballet dancer after all. *...experiences flashbacks of war* -
Wait, with all this, I forgot -- don't S/H win the "award" for dragging out their program announcements the longest? (I hope she's fully recovered and they are taking care of themselves!)

Mae Berenice is still around? I'm excited for Yuzuru, Wakaba, and Jun Hwan for sure. Haha, there's a Juliet there, too, then. -

I actually like R&J when it's done well, so fingers crossed. Cinderella though... We'll be finding out soon, IIRC! -
Key points from the interview: 1) He's eliminating solo triples from his programs. 2) He was talking about the time cut, too. 3) He and his team are working on difficult entries and exits.

...I feel for their partners. That sounds terrifying.

What do you mean?

It's still very early in the season, so probably. He looks like he improved a LOT in terms of SS and the way he handles choreography, and he was getting his 4Lo consistent, so that's probably where the effort's went thus far, and jumping away from the boards. If the timing keeps staying off due to wanting to jump away from the boards, though, maybe they'll abandon the effort for the season, as he'll need to adjust to the new time limit first (and the stamina for it). He didn't actually have that problem as badly until PC (with the smaller than usual rink) and Worlds last season, so hope he can pull out whatever he used to pull for the outings before that. Yeah, the way they use free skating moves and elements as part of the choreography and interpretation is very, very Kurt.

It was 4Lz<< (fall) 4S (fall) 4Lo (hangs on) FCSp4 StSq4 2T 3A-1Lo-2S 2T + REP 3A There were two spins between the jumps somewhere ChSq He didn't look happy, but he also looked tired at some points, even from the very beginning because of the falls. But the program looks good from what we got today (he lost a lot of timing and the program became watered down compared to the practice vid after the second 2T as he kept missing the music and struggled to keep up). Maybe they're still fixing the timing of when to jump so he doesn't jump so close to the boards... ETA: He placed second in the LP, first overall.

Oh I definitely agree. In fact, a lot of programs are probably going to change, so fingers crossed it's mostly for the better!
-
She changed it. The Spiderman went 4Lz+3T -> Flying Camel -> 3A -> 4T -> sit spin -> combo spin -> footwork. She actually kept that for CTHD but changed it to what it currently is even here after he got injured. She should look into what you said with the footwork -> spin, but the footwork apart from the gimmicks interprets the music well (well, the gimmicks do, too, but why not something else there?), so it would be fine if she just looked into putting the flying camel after the 4Lz+3T and removed at least a couple of the gimmicks, IMO.

He's more serious here, and is probably working on making it look more effortless and with a bit more swagger, which is where it will ideally be come November (and then more maturity past that). At least, I hope Lori and Kurt are giving him that direction. I'm fine with the transitions there are here (looks like he kept his rocker change of foot into the 3A for example, although not well executed here), and some touches will come alive with better performance ability and more extension and better-suited movement quality, but I'm more concerned about the gimmicks and the way the first half is arranged. I think it would look better if they did a spin after the 4Lz+3T, for instance. It would interpret the music better with a flying camel there perhaps? And then he can jump the 4T to the music change. A few spin positions need to be changed too even as it currently stands, and the way the spins are arranged too (gaining speed might help, as might arm variations in the combo spin). I like how the 3A and the 4Lz+3T interpret the music, though. I also liked the bit of looseness he had at The Ice, which seems less apparent here, but it looks like a definite work in progress, so I'll leave it for now. Hope they change a bit of the choreography, and help him portray angst with his face better, and help him with the swagger (he can do it! The hair-touching was good!). He does seem to be giving more wrathful energy at points in the footwork, so fingers crossed.

They also uploaded the SP in two parts, if anyone's interested! (although it doesn't have sound (yet))
-
They didn't show the scores for Boyang? We're already on to Zhang He.
-
Well, he seemed more serious here, but still needs work. He has time though. http://c.m.163.com/news/l/191141.html Use this!

Boyang first up! A much sparklier one, too, LOL
